I have been trying to get Emperor to work on XP for months now to no avail. I have tried running in compatability mode, I updated all my drivers and directX (It is directX 8 with XP). I do not meet the minimum system requirements but it worked fine on Windows ME and 98. Westwood stopped helping me because I do not meet the minimum system requirements.

Please help me if you can...I love this game as much as the next man.

Behind the games shortcut? No I don't believe I have tried the -altvid option nor do I know where it is.

Right click on the EBFD shortcut on your desktop. Select proporties. Depending on where you installed EBFD, it says something like: "D:Dune Emperor battleEMPEROR.EXE"

What you may want to try is to have the following line in there:

"D:Dune Emperor battleEMPEROR.EXE -altvid"

If it still ain't clear, let me know.

I disabled my sis 530 chipset and am now using my GeForce 2 MX/400~64MB/PCI as my primary videocard. Also I deleted my other 2 default monitors and am using my Gateway as the primary but the same thing happens. I start a new campaign and the loading bar gets to 100% and then booted to desktop.

Also, when i reboot it re-detects the other 2 default monitors and then I am in the same situation with that. I only have 1 monitor by the way. Also it re-detected my sis 530 chipset so I don't know what to do anymore. I don't think any of that is gonna help anyway but oh well. I am about to give up on this game because I have never had this much trouble with a game.

I really find it interesting that I just tried starting a Skirmish and it loaded up perfectly and I actually played the game for about 10 minutes and then it terminated to the desktop.

So Skirmish works for about 10 minutes and terminates to the desktop and Campaign mode loads to 100% and terminates to the desktop.

Sorry if you already tried it, but did you close down all background programs (press [ctrl]-[alt]-[del] once. Click on the "end program button" for every program running, except for "Systray" & "Explorer") ?

The odd thing is, is that in my windowstemp directory there are like 50 of these DFA9C.TMP files in there with the little "~" mark in front of them in which I am sure they are accessing memory. I can't delete them either so if you have any ideas about them. I thought i saw in an earlier thread that they had something to do with the cd protection or whatnot but I could be wrong.

If all programs are closed (including EBFD), you should be able to delete them, or they should have dissapeared. The ~ in front of them means they are actually being used..

I'm almost certain it has to do with your video settings. I noticed you have two video cards listed. Try to disable to onboard one (probably the one with the SIS chipset). Also, you have listed 3 monitors. Delete the ones you're not using (go to start => settings => control panel. There select "system". Then select the tab "Device Manager". I have an odd problem. I start the game up and go ahead and start a new campaign. The campaign goes to load up and the loading bar gets all the way to 100% and then it terminates to the desktop. If anyone has any suggestions on this problem I would appreciate the feedback.
