Elite47
I dont know all i did was choose to upgrade Windows ME to XP and i reinstalled all my programs and games.
Nyarlathotep
Upgrading, but did you format your drive before you put XP on ?If not, you've choosen the worst scenario to move to XP. Best thing is to format and do a fresh install of XP.All I can think of is what Gob said, make sure you've updated all your drivers to XP compatible ones. Elite47
I was running Windows ME and it wouldn't let me start up in msdos mode, so i couldnt format it. I just upgraded... but i guess i will just do a fresh install and format my drive.
aox0m0xoa
you have the option of formatting when you you are installing xp, you can do it directly from there.

It didnt give me the option to format when i upgraded or atleast i never saw it. But i tried everything i could to get ME to startup in msdos mode and couldn't. I can do that in Xp so i am just gonna redo it with the Xp OS.
Elite47
Ok, I don't get whats wrong... Why can't i format my c: drive? I got an error about volume and handles ??? and then when i tried it said 'could not lock drive'.
Gobalopper
Can't you boot from your CD? There might be an option in your BIOS for that. Makes it a lot easier. Also XP has bootdisks you can use, I don't think you can use the old 98[me=Gobalopper]disks anymore.[/me]
Elite47
Ok i booted up with the XP disk and formatted my c: drive and completely reinstalled Windows Xp and everythinge else.Everything is all good excpet emperor gives me problems all the time. Nyarlathotep
Are you sure you installed the correct XP drivers for everything (including NIC drivers, video card, maybe motherboard chipset drivers) ?
Elite47
Oh man i have to update every single driver? Whats the fastest way to do that other than searching on the web for each individual driver?
Gobalopper
Well goto Windows Update first. That will get a lot of the updates. For the most part its your video card drivers you will want to update as they are likely the culprit.
Oper90
Oh man i have to update every single driver? Whats the fastest way to do that other than searching on the web for each individual driver?Go to CNet ... program called "Catchup" ... works great in locating updates for programs, etc.

Elite47
I updated everything from Windows update but i still freeze up after every *online* game. I went to Cnet and i couldnt find that catchup program and i couldnt find drivers for my video card. this is the first time I've had to do any of this so maybe im just not doing it right. So could someone please explain to me what to do to update my drivers that need to be updated.
number6
Run DXdiag and post output as an attachment so we can see what drivers you currently have installed for your video card.

ethan
well, from the looks of it, you have a Dell like my friends except for he has 128 ram instead of 190.
Nyarlathotep
If the intel graphics card (build in) is the only graphics card you have in there, then this is the site you need. All Intel support can be found there, including new drivers. To me, your problem seems to be one that can be solved with the correct drivers.well, from the looks of it, you have a Dell like my friends except for he has 128 ram instead of 190.The Directx output states:System Manufacturer: CompaqSystem Model : Presario :)
