cochonou Posted October 14, 2000 Posted October 14, 2000 The novel House Harkonnen has just come out, and it won't be translated into my native language before a long time.I could read the novel in English, however I'm reluctant to do so just to find that the book turns out to be just uninteresting. I've had mixed feelings about House Atreides... by itself, the book wasn't bad, however it didn't really stand the comparaison to the original dune books, and I just couldn't find in the book what made me love so much novels like the Emperor God of Dune. It was like a Dune fix without the flavour. So, any thoughts about it ?
Mahdi Posted October 14, 2000 Posted October 14, 2000 From the descriptions I've heard of it, it's going to be even worse than HA, with many, many more descripancys. (Leto marrying an outlawed princess and fighting an evil emperor with a lasgun. Sounds more like star wars than dune.)
the_baron99 Posted June 23, 2001 Posted June 23, 2001 I am currently reading it.So far it is good.Iam on page 250
ordos45 Posted June 25, 2001 Posted June 25, 2001 I think it is ok. Not great. Sure it shows a lot about Gurney and why he hates the Harks so much. It also shows Rabban's stupidity and excessive use of brute force. Really attack a Bene Gesserit school with a ship that in the novels themselves isn't going to be invented for thousands of years.
quoudam72 Posted June 25, 2001 Posted June 25, 2001 I am not finding the same feeling I got when I read the series when FH was alive and writing it. I truly feel like something is missing from these additions to the Dune Legend. Could it be "spice". :)
thomas Posted July 19, 2001 Posted July 19, 2001 even though this is off topic Margret Weis and Tracy Hickmen write really good books(The Death Gate Cycle) if you like fantasy:D
Mahdi Posted July 30, 2001 Posted July 30, 2001 Should be prety good? You must not have read the plot synospsis, have you moidib?btw, there are copies of it floating around on ebay.
Acriku Posted August 1, 2001 Posted August 1, 2001 Oh. That sucks, I was looking forward to it. But on the other hand, who knows.
exatreide Posted August 2, 2001 Posted August 2, 2001 i liked house harkonnen and i'm waiting for house corren.
Sardauker-Kirov Posted February 22, 2002 Posted February 22, 2002 Mass destruction!!!!!For house harkonnen!!!!! :)
Gunseng_Harkonnen Posted February 24, 2002 Posted February 24, 2002 Find another hundred "For House Harkonnen" on this forum ;D
Alexander_Ordos Posted March 2, 2002 Posted March 2, 2002 House Harkonnen is a relly nice book. Which is most about unsucces of the Atreides i like that ;D HH was the first Dune book I ever read...
Ligic_Tha_Master Posted March 4, 2002 Posted March 4, 2002 That's why I came you reincarnation of Baron 99, though you are showing signs of... smartness...
Alexander_Ordos Posted March 4, 2002 Posted March 4, 2002 Oh besides it must be an outdated topic because i've read House Corrino 2 months ago... Nice book - only about WAR!
Sardauker-Kirov Posted March 4, 2002 Posted March 4, 2002 Damn i cant agree with you more. I personally like Every house. But the Most favorite is the Harkonnen and Ordos. The Atreides are just wimps who cant even hit a 1 ton duck in the air. Yet they run away like chickens themselfs if they have to fight.P.S Or cry?
FeydRauttah Posted March 5, 2002 Posted March 5, 2002 House Harkonnen was cool, it appealed to Feyd Rauttah... I agree it wasn't the quality of Frank Herbert. It is better than the crappy Star Wars stuff, which floods the market. I read House Harkonnen in English as well. It has yet to be translated in Bulgarian... I want the Dune Encyclopedia *sigh*
