Right, my sister and I have a major disagreement about this, was hoping some of you wise and powerful people on the web here could help out. Anime. I think it is pronounced AN-IM-AY, (rhymes with 'day') and she thinks it is pronounced AN-EYE-M (rhymes with 'time'). There was also the suggestion of AN-IM-EE (rhymes with 'me') but we both rejected that. And contributions that support me would be welcomed. Any that don't are nececary I suppose but try to avoid them.

The last one is correct with anime. the e sound at the end. besides anime is messed up.lol the only good stuff is the serious kind. even that is out of hand. I personally dont like to see naked cartoons though. just a little weird.lol

It's from japanese, so though it isn't correct, the closest one you have there is

AN-EYE-M (rhymes with 'time').

but its a cross, kinda an A, but still an E

I can't explain it, but it is closer to the day on aswell, like try to say ea at once.

I've gathered around anime-freaks all my life at school, and they all pronounce it 'AN-EM-AY'. So that's my suggestion and it should be correct (maybe not in Japan but in America). It's like Pokemon, 'POHK-AY-MAHN', the e is 'ay', so also it can be deducted that the e in anime is 'ay' also.

Ok...

Anime would be pronounced so that it rhymes with "rhyme" if it is a fundamentally english word.

If french, anime sounds so that it rhymes with "win")

By the way, I thought it was just a style of drawing... big eyes, tiny noses and beautiful scenery... Have I been wrong for years?

manga is the name of the art style and the company produced comics. If the comics are produced by a single person they are named Koujinshi and if by a group of people then it is called Doujinshi. Anime is the anglified japanese word for animation.

Hentai is the japanese nude stuff. It's sick, mostly incest, rape, statuatory rape, etc. They blur out the lower private parts, but hey the upper parts for a girl are just fine for the Japanese hentai artists. :P

Don't forget pervs. I have a Gunam 8th MS Team video where the main character is lost and finds a pond where a nude teen girl happens to be swimming. He makes a few comments about her body and then she notices him and he has a gun put up to his head.

In Japanese, "hentai" also means "Pervert"

hentai is also named echi which is the anglified version (its basicly the way the japanese say "H")

i have to say though...the japanese are kinda weirdo type and sick....i think they encourage that sick ass shit...ne ways...

there is alot more to anime then just hot chicks and shiet...watch some of the more detailed and thinker series along with the movies....

Look at Mobile Suit Gundam as an example of that. It is a thought provoking series. At the beginning of the first episode we hear the background of the war, and that half of the Human race is dead because of fighting. We see a colony dropped on a city of innocent people.

Then as the series progresses we see how war changes people. How they either harden or have emotional breakdowns. It also shows the resilience of the Human spirit. Most of the low level troops on both sides wish only for peace in the middle of all the horror, but the politicians are in control of whether or not there is peace.

Love is found and lost in the show. Lost usually to a violent end, and in that we can see heartbreak. By the end of the series a person can understand war better by watching it than say, Pearl Harbor the movie.

U cannot say that kind of thing about cultures unless you understand the background and influences that spawned such things. I know you are not insulting it but still many aspects of western culture could equally be portrayed as disgusting and "weird" to foreigners who do not understand our culture.
