Tehpevis
w00t, my first post on Dune2k. Not entirely sure if this should be in general, but I just feel obligated to give an intro to Dune2k before I start to post regularly.OK, then. To describe myself, I'm 16, a Junior in high school; I've only read the first book of Dune so far(trying to change that, don't worry), and found this site awhile back while searching for a downloadable version of Dune 2000. The thought only a bit ago occurred to me to actually get around to joining the forum. More controversially are my politics; I'm proudly a "Red Anarchist" (Think along the lines of "Emma Goldman" and "Mikhail Bakunin" rather than "Ayn Rand" or "Hot Topic"). Quite odd, considering I'm in Texas, surrounded on all sides by evangelicals and hostile rednecks. As you can probably infer, I'm also a fan of Dune.Discuss? Comment? Welcome? kk. MrFlibble
Hello and Welcome :)I think there was an "Introduce Yourself" thread somewhere around, but it either drifted away or never existed in the first place :DDiscussion in the Duniverse forum has been in decline for quite some time, yet there's certain activity right now (but it's not like in the good old days though). SandChigger
Howdy.Remember, Dune is only by Frank Herbert. Accept no substitutes! :D
Khan
Welcome! Things go kind of slow here but that's the way we like them. ;)
Edric O
Welcome, comrade! :) You will find that this forum seems to attract an unusually high proportion of radical socialists (I'm a communist, and I believe we currently have at least two other people with revolutionary socialist views, and there were more in the past). I don't think we've had any anarchists before, though. Is there something about Dune that makes it more likely to attract people with left-wing views? Hmmm... We have right-wing people here too, but the only one with really radical right-wing views (who shall not be named) decided to leave a while ago. Dante
I think perhaps the youngish and video-game friendly crowd are probably biased slightly to the left, but that's just my theory.
Dunenewt
No, I think that's a pretty accurate statement I find.
Dante
Were you given permission to speak, Conservative scum? Â :P
Sneakgab
Why would the video-game friendly be more prone to leftism?Perhaps games and piracy related desires induce and encourage leftism and open-mindedness (which perhaps indirectly induces leftism)? Dante
I suggest correlation, not causation. :PThough it's possible that, being generally younger, we lean more to the left anyway. But that's just a suggestion, I didn't even look up election stats first.
Dunenewt
Were you given permission to speak, Conservative scum? Â :PDamn this tyranny by majority!
Sneakgab
''I suggest correlation, not causation. Tongue''Oh. Since you used the word ''probably'' I guess I assumed the latter since if you had the statistical info required for correlation there wouldn't be much to be uncertain about and hence there would be cause to use the word ''probably''. Of course, even with such info, uncertainty can still exist but... you get the idea.
TMA_1
Welcome, comrade! Smiley You will find that this forum seems to attract an unusually high proportion of radical socialists.Yeah... what the hell is up with that?Only here would you see a Trotskyist laugh it up with a laissez faire capitalist about video games and science fiction. Tehpevis
Only here would you see a Trotskyist laugh it up with a laissez faire capitalist about video games and science fiction. It just occured to me that I'd probably see the same thing in a piece of Stalinist propaganda.
