yeah, i'm super hyped about this myself... cant wait!

the cinematography looks stunning to say the least.  and the action scenes look down right sick and animated comic book like... if they make it a better "sky captain and the world of tomorrow" type but with a better story, that would be sick.

yeah, it's not too clear is it... best i can figure, its a comic book movie, with heros and villains and such, but i dont think its like superpower superhero type (then again i'm not too sure myself)

What I think would be hilarious is if everyone goes to see it on April the first and right after the upcoming previews play you get a big fat April fools screen and are forced to sit through that Fahrenheit 9-11 movie.

6 degrees of Dune:

Graeme Revell helped score this movie.

Edit:  HArry's review is up at aintitcool.  Spoiler free.

Seems I'm not the only one with a little crush on Ms. Bledel.

Anyone want to go rich, fat, Texan hunting?

My friend Robbie told me about this movie a few weeks ago, and i have seen some previews since. The usage of CG on the previews look extremely awesome. I am hoping that this will be a film that revolutionizes and matures computer generated graphics. I have seen very few flicks that have made CG artistically tasteful. I wonder what this movie will be like.

If you're refering to the black and white with sudden dashes of colour, it has been done before in a couple movies (most noticably Pleasantville) but, from the glimpses I have had of Sin City, never this stylishly.

Whatever his faults in the story department Rodriguez is a hell of a visualist.

to me it looks like a style mix between "sky captain: and the world of tomorrow" and (as mahdi mentioned) pleasantville... but ya i hope this is good, if its not, then whoever made the trailers should be given an oscar.

I think you are hitting at it, the flashes of color and whatnot.

See, what amazes me about the twod ifferent previews I saw, and the trailer at a theatre, is that it actaully looks like a twisted comic book. There is a scene where you see a bunch of men running up a flight of stairs, and it is shot vertically downward. The men actually look animated like a comic might be if it came alive, extremely hard to explain. The use of CG in this film is strange to say the least. A living comic book that reminded me in little snippits of The Crow.

Holy Shit.

Sin City will change the way people make film. It is an instant classic in every sense of the word. I can honestly say that it is the best noir film I have seen ever, and is the best of any kind of pulp cinema. There are three major stories in the flick, and the beginning and end is tied together, just like the three stories themselves are tied together. It is extremely similar to Pulp Fiction in the kind of story layering. Most of the talking is pure and beautifully written inner monolog that feels so similar to a good comic or graphic novel, that you think you are actualyl watching one.

Visually it is so stunning and progressive. There are a lot of acute angles like in comics, lots of downward camera shots and extreme movements. The CG in the film is awesome all the way down to the little things (for example at times the blood in the movie is an incandescent white fluid that you can actually hear glow. The way all of those little kind of things in the movie just kicks my ass to another level). There is a lot of gore in this film too, as well as nudity.

It is so stylistic and fits genre so well that it actually helps accentuate the beauty and mood of the flick.

The acting is freaking awesome at times too. Except for certain people in it like jessica alba, who though extremely hot, is just not a great actress. Other people in it shine though. Benicio Del Toro for example is so freaking good that you will just go nuts.

The atmosphere, the writing, the filmmaking style of it and every other part is just so tight. You can tell that they didnt use storyboards and only used the graphic novels of Sin City to make this movie. It is so groundbreaking that I honestly dont think film will ever be the same.

I suggest this film to anybody who wants to see one of the best noir films ever, or to anybody that just loves a good movie. I guarintee you will love this one. I wont go any further into it.

the film speaks for itself. WATCH IT NOW!!! lol

I agree, it was extremely awesome.  And had a completely new look to making comic book ( or in this case graphic novels) type films.  I hope they make some more very similar, or just continue on this series.

argh!

there are a lot of people, (even some big name reviewers) who seem not to get this film at all. The extreme nudity and violence is constantly berated and it is pissing me off. This is pulp cinema people! it is supposed to be over the top and extreme. It is edgy and in your face. Reading some of the things by posters on IMDB just make me sick to my stomach.

Really? they are saying the nudity and violence is over the top? are you kidding, i thought they did a perfect job of keeping it low.  especially using the colors they did helped to keep it from really looking too greusome.  It's the same sort of reason that Hitchcock made "psycho" as a black and white film. to reduce the gore (that, and he wanted a low budget film but who cares about that part).

This movie is definately not for everybody.

Honestly, I'm not sure whether I liked it or not. I do know that I wanted to like it, but like every Rodriguez movie, the visual style is amazing but the story is a bit lacking.

Super violent and gory. Very dark. The backgrounds don't call attention to themselves, like in Sky CAptain thank god. It's all about the performances and voice overs.

All in all definately worth your money to see on the big screen as this is unlike anythign we've seen before.

Plus, Alexis' perfect face 20 feet high... drool....
