WoW. I just got to play this game... My impressions...

First of all, I just got this game. I always knew I should have it, never could find one. Finally I find it in my local RadioShack (who knew?). Well, I loaded it up and got playing. Note that I'm not a newbie to Arrakis, I've commanded forces in Dune II, 2000, and finally Emperor, as well as watched all movies, the series and read most of the books. Yup, I'm a Dune fan.

First of all, I've seen the game before, and I've also played the original C&C games (I HATE the GENERALS, that abomination of RTS).

I'm amazed by the quality of the Emperor. The music, videos and graphics are top notch. Watching videos is like watching a movie. I have to bow to Westwood. They really dug into the Dune universe and all characters, names and story is something that could be written by Herbert himself.

Gameplay is cool. I like the unit design, it's new and yet quite resembling of the original games. What i didn't like, is how Ordos are portrayed. I know they are not the original house, but yet they are portraid way too greedy and carelsess. Perhaps it's just me.

I've only completed the Atreides campaign. It's been quite interesting. They are easily completed by amassing a large quantity of units of the type most suitable. The only thing i HATED is the last mission. The emperor worm one. It took me 4 days, 8 hours in each day, to figure out the way to complete the mission. It's nearly impossible. YOur original building area is way too small, and you never have enough money for everything. I tried every know trick. Ornitopter rush (15+) failed miserably, didn't ever scratch the Worm. Mongooose Rush

There are several ways to kill the worm. 1 popular method is to send fremen in unseen by the enemy. About 10 take care of the worm in no time. If you want a longer game...I have just slowly advanced while they are fighting my slow moving force i engy drop the guild palace. I then make about 5 niabs and teleport in to kill the worm. Keep in mind these are just a couple of the ways I have killed the worm. There are probably as many different methods as there are players. Find what works for you and go with it. Like I said though, the fremen seems to be a popular method, and doesn't take a whole lot of strategy.

10-30 Fremen Fedaykin are probably the best to come in to kill the Emp. Worm. Check the Stategy subsection of this forum, that usually is the trick other than trying to get an Atreides APC to kill the worm unnoticed.

Glad you like Emperor. You got it recently? That's hard to get by. I got my copy 2 years ago and I will be asked to be buried with it :)

the mission campaigns are very similar but with differences... w/ all houses there is the same location for the 3rd mission (the one w/ just a few infantry on the guild ship or w/e it is) but each is a little different reason why you are there.  each house has a different middle mission to complete. ordos has to kill of a tielaxu attack on their home planet, hark you have to pick between the two brothers and defeat the other.  atr you have to go to the home planet and save the duke.  and then the third and second to last missions are obviously different depending on which house you decide to attack.  but the last mission with the emperor worm is always the same.

I would say to find the original movie you could probably look at a best buy or maybe online somewhere (ebay, amazon etc.) if you were able to find emp the game i bet you'll have no problem finding the movie.

Well for atr campaign I used the fremen to, but to begin with there is 3 snipers and 3 kindjal infs that are all ranked up to 3rd ranks, so I moved them into the barracks so I could produce more of these rank 3 kindjals and if I needed then I wiould make rank 3 snipers aswell. I'd make the kindjals as they would become invisible. and have them as my defence and then staright away I would start going for fremen fadayins and move them from one rock to another (a group of 20)

When I get to the worm then I attack it for 2 seconds and then pulled away coz the guild mega cannon will fire on them wiping them out (possibaly 3 men at a time) so then attack the worm again the same way and keep doing this till the worm dies. Try doing this in game speed 3 or 4

With harkonnen I killed the worm in 3 or 4 minutes and puting the game speed at 3, lol. I only made a windtrap, refinery(all upgrades), factory and 2 hangers and all I needed out of those buildings was 3 adv carryalls,

.....and why?

Cos the game already gives me 3 devastators which are ranked 3 so I move them to the worm avoiding anit-air and land them infront of the worm and its dead and I only lost 3 scouts and that was it. Those were the only thing I lost, hehe. 8) 8)

well i think the graphics are pretty sweet... i mean i dont see how they could improve on the buzzsaws... you can even see the teeth on the saw when graphics are on high.

also the laser tank shields are beautifully done.  And the infantry (especially the sards) blow General's infantry out of the water.

right, thegraphics rock. just try turning everything to maximum in a skirmish game if your pc is powerful enough to handle it. it really looks very good then...

Do you all live in the stone age over there? Hehe, I always get the impression of that.

There are plenty of games with better graphics. Earth 2160 for example. That game however will only feature squad scale battles because most PC's won't be able to handle more then 30 or so units with such an engine. Emperor's graphics are good yet not demanding of system specs.

we are saying that the graphics for emperor are awesome for a game that was made so long ago. of course they arent demanding for the new systems, because emp was designed to be one of the top for the systems of that time, not now. sheesh, give it a break, obviously there are a lot better games graphic wise now, but emp is still damn good for its age.

lol, honestly, man, it's 2005, I have P4 3.4, 1 Gb of 3200, and a FX5900XT. Game runs like butter with all high on 1280x1024...

I remmber the first time I went agasint the emp worm when I was a noob , I killed it in like maybe a min or 2 . I was hark and just ran my projecter over there while sending everthing else to , then I just profected a bunch of devs to kill it . Not much strategy but whatever works right?

Hellhound it's been awhile since I've done the missions. But if memory serves me correctly the level 3 snipers and kinjal are in the APC's. You have to deploy them from the APC's and than send them into the barracks.

yep that's exactly where they are desert. :)

i wish i could play the campaign again, but last few times i tried it always fails after 3rd mission, o well maybe after this last reinstall it will work, have to try when i get home 'morrow or sometime.

but i know the lvl 3 snipers work, and i have a vague memory of doing it with regular infantry as well, so i wouldnt be surprised if kindjal worked too.  but atr is only house u can do it with, i know that's for sure.

I have an enhanced buzzsaw model knocking around my comp somewhere. It looked a million times better than the current saw.

Screenshots? And do you even plan on releasing Emperor:A Tribute?

There still seems to be some confusion with infantry other than snipers being able to go back into the barracks. I can recall vividly doing it with regular infantry, Kinjal as well as snipers. It can be done! I just wasn't sure exactly where they were whne the worm mission starts.
