I just installed it.

So how do I keep windows security alert from starting when windows does?

I don't like having icons at startup that I don't use. (bottom right guard icon)

It seemed to take a long time to install. (almost 2 hours?)

And I went to cnn.com and I got a popup blocker saying this popup may not be safe blah blah blah.

cnn.com ? umm, k

Ok, I just found the setting for popup blocker which I can do stuff with.

Hopefully I get used to it, or format here I come.

Although on a good note there is no windows installed components to uninstall in the add/remove programs thing.

EDIT - And it really fragmented my hard drive.

And it keeps popping up saying my computer isn't safe because auto downloads is turned off and the status of my antivirus is unknown. (when booting up)

Ehm, this leaves me to wonder if it is really such a good idea to install SP2. I keep hearing complaints from various people, (it is a problem, right Andrew?)

But on the other hand, it is still a Service Pack which should fix things (security issues?) but I hardly noticed the difference between Win XP without a Service Pack, and SP1, except that GTA3 + VC wouldn't run normally without it (but maybe more games I started playing after the installation of SP1)

am I still the only one without any problems with SP2 ?

anyways. . just click on the icon in the notification area [ lower right ], and select the last / lowest option on the left-side menu. Notification for securitycenter or something like that. Uncheck all the 3 boxes and you'll never see it again.

Installed SP2 ..... windows didn't load, great.

Luckily I downloaded the larger version of the update meaning that my files were backed up allowing for a system restore and as such avoiding a format.

Just avoid SP2 in my opinion

SP2 has a new place in my heart.

I am now reminded when my illegally aquired anti-virus program is outdated. :P

No no no, please don't call the cops, its all good you see.

I have a special 'notepad-altered' 3000-day evaluation license for it lying around somewhere... ;D

That worked!

I also notice that when windows boots the line going across is blue instead of green.

If I remember correctly, green (which I think looks nicerer  :D) is for WinXP Home, and blue is for WinXP Pro...why SP2 would change those, I dont know. I havent installed it on XP Home yet, so I cannot say I have seen it do that.

SP2 is running on my XP Pro fine.

Microsoft will send you SP2 on a CD for free if you e-mail them, I recieved mine a few days ago, although it does take 2 weeks to get here, BUT.... I have not installed it yet.... because of this. http://forum.windowsxpmagazine.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=7996

All I would suggest is that if you do install it, create a system restore point first, then you can turn you computer back to before the install if you have any problems with it.

Umm, Now when using IE it makes clicking noises when clicking on items (links)

How do I turn this off?

And when I went into system properties, under the remote tab, the allow remote assistance is checked. Why? It wasn't before, why is it now?

I find IE safety crap very annoying. keeps popping up saying this and that isnt safe do you want to run it and stuff. Think I will start using Firefox more.

Hi Andrew

To turn off those annoying clicks everytime you open a link, go to START/ SETTINGS /CONTROL PANEL/ now open your SOUNDS icon, (it may be called multimedia, or audio devises in Canada) click the sounds tab, in the EVENTS window, navigate to the Internet Explorer section, click the event called "Start Navigation,"and change the setting to "none" from the drop down box, then Click OK,

Ok. I couldnt find what you told me to look for so I just choose the windows default settings and it seemed to fix it.

Another problem I have is with my volume control.

On my keyboard there is a knob that turns volume up down.

When I used to turn it up/down it would change by the same amount. Now when I turn the knob it goes up by a less amount than it normally does, but after the first "turn" it goes up normally again. I have this becuase I have my volume turned down as low as possible most of the time, but there is the odd occasion I turn it up a bit. But when I turn it back down using the knob, it goes to all the way down to no sound.

I downloaded and installed Service Pack Two today.

First, I got an error, because atapi.dll, or whatever, was locked ( the file was locked, so Windows couldn't touch it ), but a quick uninstall of Alcohol 120% fixed the problem.

Wow, I must say I'm amazed so far by the Service Pack! The firewall of XP finally works!

Well, it worked before installing SP2 too, but I was unable to visit other computers on my LAN, and vice versa. Now that is possible, and everything else too. But the firewall isn't the thing I was most interested in, because I have another ( hardware ) firewall taking care of it. Anyway, the more protection, the merrier!

I feel my computer is more secure than Fort Knox now  8)

Hehe, especially when hearing Microsoft say that Windows XP with Service Pack Two is just about impossible to hack. :P
