Andrew
According to filehippo.comFirefox 2.0 RC1 has been released.Sweet. Think I'll wait till RC2 before testing. I did have good luck with the 1.5 RCs.Also according to digg.com, many are reporting this as wellhttp://digg.com/search?s=firefox+2.0+rc1Here:http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0rc1/Or here:http://www.mozilla.org/projects/bonecho/all-rc.htmlNow only if openoffice would release 2.0.4, and GIMP finally release something...I'm guessing ubuntu 6.10 will come with firefox 2.0 final. :)Hmm, I wonder if this means 2.0 will be released earlier than its predecessors: * Firefox 1.0 - shipped November 9, 2004 * Firefox 1.5 - shipped November 29, 2005
Dragoon Knight
Decided to update to Firefox 2.0 RC3. I tried both RC1 and RC2, and I couldn't stand the bugs. Each time, I downgraded back to 1.5.x, but RC3 seems to be pretty stable. Is it just me, or is the default skin for Firefox 2.0 really ugly? I'm glad that the Noia 2.0 (eXtreme) theme works just fine in RC3.One thing that I still can't get rid of is the 'Close' button on each tab. It's really bugging me, as I never had them in 1.5.x, and the about:config page doesn't allow their full removal. You can set browser.tabs.closeButtons to 0, but a 'Close' button will still appear on the active tab, no matter what. Anyone have any solutions to this? Andrew
Yeah, they added them in 2.0, and I don't think you can remove them. They really screwed up the tabs in this version. Kinda bloating Firefox with the new features.
Andrew
Firefox has been updated to 2.0 officially.http://www.mozilla.com/So far it seems to run faster than the 1.5 series. Especially switching between tabs which was slow for me (I need a new computer!).about:config, set browser.urlbar.hideGoButton to true to get rid of the "go button" that I never used before. Andrew
about:config tweaks for firefox 2.0Pretty good list. Might use some of them someday.Firefox Tweak GuidePretty big list.
Vidi
Just got 2.0, looks very nice, and those tweaks you posted are good, I was able to remove the close tab buttons, they were just ugly. The default theme wasn't that bad, but I got the original back, some guy made it a skin for 2.0. Glad all my extentions work for it, it's really goodGo FireFox! Acriku
I really like the upgrade. Using about:config helped a lot! Turns out the IE team sent the Firefox team a cake on their 2.0 release. No, it wasn't poisoned lol
gryphon
gave it a try. . . I'll be back again when FF has some proper SSL support . . .Overall not bad though. :)
erjin999
Tab Mix Plus Beta works on FF2, so its all good. Sessionsaver is now no longer needed as TMP does that too. Havent bumped into the spell checker yet, but will see how that works.
Andrew
Tab mix plus version I had was incompatible, so I uninstalled it (not the beta). Not sure if I notice a big loss of not having it yet. Firefox probably runs faster not having it installed for me.Might try it when final version is released.
