I don't think it would be feasible to go to the library and pick up all the books you plan on reading at once. As you would have to bring them back in a month.

I might join, but I think I will read over the Dune books again soon. And buy Dreamer of Dune when it comes out on paperback. (June)

I said we'd read one book and decide ont he next one while reading that one about a week before we start the enw one, giving people a weeks notice.

Well, the Thursday deadline has cone, so since people still haven't lsited there suggestions I wetn to the library to pick up Clothar the Frank.  Unfortuantly, there is a six month waiting list, so I ended up getting The Sorceror: Metamorphises by Jack Whyte instead.

Don't let the title fool you:  There is nothign magical about this book or the events within it.  There is no magic whatsoever in any of Whyte's books, it is simply that some people think Merlyn has magic powers when he does not.  It is actually the second part of one long novel split by the publishers, the first being The Sorceror: The Fort at Rivers bend.

If anyone is iterested in reading this with me, pick up a copy at your local library.  Otherwise, let's get to picking the next title to be read (probably in a bout two weeks).

Suggestions so far:

The Skystone by Jack Whyte

History of The Kings of Britain by Geoffrey of Monmouth

Perceval by Cretien de Troyes

Yvain: The Kngiht of the Lion by Cretien de Troyes

The Winter King by Bernard Cronwell

Excalibur by Bernard Cornwell

Ghost King by David Gemmel

Last Sword of Power by David Gemmel

If you have anymore to add to the list, please say so.  Otherwise, vote for your choice.

I'm all for it. I'll look for it so I can read it during my drive to New York.

Better hurry up.  I've already devoured the first hudnred pages.  So nice to finally be able to read strictly for pleasure again.

Well, I thought I'd bring this thread up again as I have another Arthur class this semester, with three textbooks in it.  One of which I've read, and the other I've read excerpts from.  Those are:

The Age of Arthur by John Morris

The History of the Kings of Britain  by Geoffrey of Monmouth

The Mabinogion (already own and have read)

As for this summer I didn't get as much read as I wanted, but I did finish the following:

Arthur's Britain by Lesilie Alcock

The Discovery of King Arthur by Geoffrey Ashe

King Arthur:  The Truth Behind the Legend by Rodney Castleden

The Winter King by Bernard Cornwell

Excalibur by Bernard Cornwell

Taliesin by Stephen R. Lawhead

The Skystone by Jack Whyte

The Sorcerer:  Metamorphosis by Jack Whyte

Clothar the Frank by Jack Whyte (read a week ago,a ctually)

I'm not really into King Arthur, and I may have missed something in this topic. But I believe this book can be added to the list:

The Once and Future King

It's a collection of 5 stories:

The Sword in the Stone

The Witch in the Woods

The Ill-made Knight

Candle in the Wind

The Book of Merlin

I've read this book, and I thought of it as a good book. I don't really feel like reading more Arthur books. But I just noticed this missing book.

That movie had a big hit on you, Mahdi  ;D  You should add "Mists of Avalon", a weird, but not that bad one. What is the oldest of these books?

well I'll try to join you, like the idea! But as my gril friend and me are moving in together I might not have so much time i the summer...

at least I thank you for the list of books wich I'll try to read some day at least, like arthur and those alike (books about troy, greek and roman time also Alexander and alike)

I think it is a fondness of ancient cultures.

About the reading there is one problem, I don't know if the books are to be found here in Holland but I'll try

I read Mists of Avalon.

Was reading this stuff long before the movie ccame out....

Oldest book is Gilda's, who doesn't mention Arthur by name.  Oldest that does mention his name is Nennius.

I understand, I liked tales of Round Table Knights since early youth as well. First one I read was an illustrated tale by Stelio Martelli, somewhen in 2nd or 3rd class in school. We don't have native knight tales, few were made in 19th century about moravian king Svatopluk, but not of quality of ie Mallory's one, you know. Even in school we learned about him as last celtic king of Britain, and that died in battle of Kamlan in 539  ;D

By the way, who made that censor hit on my post?

I can't believe it.  I am stunned.  Unbelieveable.  King Arthur was the 30 most rented DVd of 2004!  It was only released for two weeks in 2004!  That is incredible.

Oh god, if it was that popular on DVD it might have overcame it's horrible box-office showing, clearing the way for a possible sequel....

I finished a 14 page essay (with a ten page timeline at the end) concerning a historical Arthur.  It's my own ideas concerning him and the basic evidence to support it.  If anyone is interested (I doubt anyone is, but what the hell) IM me and I'll send it to you.
