Animes with content

Hello...

I just wished to see if I couldn't find some new material. Anyone knows some animes that brings ideas and make people think? I know these ones:

Evangelion: Espescially "The End of Evangelion", which is parallel to the series

Escaflown: Not that much thinking, more on the end of the series

Serial Experiments Lain: It also has a caracteristic style...

Metropolis: It's not a series, it's a "movie". I really like this one :)

Presently, I'm trying to get an episode of Gilgamesh to see what it's like. I don't know what it is, but Gilgamesh is also an ancient epic poem (the first one I think, but I'm not too sure). Do you have more? Thanks :)

To pirate is to sabotage a product that effectively exists. I am sad to say that many good products do not exist where I could reach them.

Lain and Eva are the best in the field really. Other than that I guess I could recommend Akira, Perfect Blue and RoujinZ. Those are all movies. As for a series, if you haven't seen it already then you have to see FLCL.

GitS is wildly overrated and Cowboy Bebop's only redeeming features are its incredible soundtrack and the cool dog, lol.

Pretty much anything you mentioned can be pretty divertising, but does it actually bring new ideas? I saw Akira, it's artistically very good obviously, but it isn't oriented like Evangelion for example.

I never heard of Perfect Blue, RoujinZ or FLCL. But they may not bring ay confrontation with some actual Japanese ideas.

Well if you understand exactly what Akira is then yes it does bring new ideas.

As for the rest I mentioned, I mentioned them because they are original and make you think, which is what you asked for.

Well, Eva is the best, if you would like to talk ehm more about your intentions with it send me an IM. Other one which I might recommend is Angel Sanctuary. It's for those who don't thought Eva was weird... It's about a war in heaven which end with rebellion of few angels against God and their fall. One of them is Alexiel and her brother Roshiel. While Roshiel remains a full angel, Alexiel is incarnated into one boy Setsuna. Setsuna is in incest love with his sister. Story is very quick-lined and if it falls into a blind point, ie everybody is suddenly killed, comes Adam Qadmon and turns back time  ;D  Really good stuff, however only three parts were animated based on a quarter of whole story. Others could be obtained yet as manga.

I disagree with GiTS being overrated.  Akria, Wings of Honneamise and Jin Roh are also other anime that have content to them besides huge mechs fighting.

I'll specify an aspect: when I ment content, I had in mind ideas, problematics, etc. I agree that art is a content in itself (Akira, Ghost in the Shell...) but I was aiming specifically to finding new contemporary Japanese thinking. Of course they can bring questions like "How would it be if the world would be like that?", but they aren't oriented as much towards presenting problematics like Evangelion, Serial Lain, Metropolis or Escaflowne (about predestination; more at the end).

Manga, that's nice. But anime is extremely censored. Hence why animated is called "Naru-chan"  ;D

I think its kinda funny how Akira is considered devoid of content(ideas) and Escaflowne isn't considered the same, and at the same time Escaflowne is considered artistic trash and Akira isn't considered the same. I guess its all a matter of opinion.  ;D
