Dune 7... or Dune 7 & Dune 8? :(

I wouldn't call it a more militaristic time; they merely wrote more militaristic stuff into their books than Frank did.  Personally, I prefer Frank's neglect of the battle scenes.  I really don't care who slashed whos throat at the battle of Arrakeen.  We're giving the jist of the tactics (the rockets against the frigates' navigation components; the blasting of the wall; etc) and we're put back into the political/philosophical elements.

I agree, Frank included enough to wet your lips, but nowhere near enough to take away from Dune as a philosophical work, which I've always thought of it as.

Science Fiction is enough of a marvel as is, they shouldn't leave me to paint every scene, especially not such a large one in the whole Dune series.

Yes, indeed.  Listening to the Machine Crusade on an audio book (the first and likely the last time I listen to a book in this manner), the clumsiness of the writing is becoming more apparent.  Repetition everytime a character makes his/her debut, and if more than four chapters have gone by without them, the need to describe nearly every motive and the cardboard, predictible nature of the characters is all too evident.

What I think is a shame, and something that is now occuring to me about the Jihad series, is that the outline and intersections of some of the plots is potentially very interesting.  Without giving anything away, I am interested in the changes in Iblis Ginjo (sp? I do not have the book in front of me) and the reaction of Zena Xufa.  Erasmus remains the most interesting character because he is the most developed.  In short, though I have complained alot about the style of BH and KJA, some of the developments are in keeping with the original.  Maybe there is hope for Dune 7, though (to quote PK Rowling) "don't buy the action figures."

I hop too. But something disturb me. Brian abd Kevin try to copy the script style of Franck (and they do it very well) and we can believe that it is Franck who write. But the touch is not Franck's one. They prefer to describe many battles and action while Franck developp the philosophy and the intern growth of his caracters. So;, it is a pity: on one hand they copy the style but they don't say the same thing. It is curious.

They said they would try to mimic FH's style in Dune 7 (although I don't know to what extent) because FH meant to write it himself. They're not doing this for the prequels and the Jihad series and such.

The Heighliner likely, at least as far as I can tell, encountered Cymeks, while at the end of Dune 6 we're dealing with super-gholas. I'm wondering how they're going to deal with both possibilities... if they don't, that whole scene in the prequels will have just been totally pointless, lol :P

okay , I know my dune-stuf but cymeks and super ghola's?? where does it say thet , I diddn't read it anywhere

in the dutch version that is..

Cymeks - in the Jihad books there are... you guessed it! Cymeks! Some have theorized that the Heighliner encountered Cymeks spawned during the Buterlian Jihad.

Super-Gholas - weird, advanced gholas mentioned in the last book of FH's Dune.

Face Dancers, not ghola's.

ok that exp[lains, red about those

Cymeks; are they from the second book machine crusade? heven't red that one jet isn't out in Dutch for about one week..

Butlerian Jihad and Machine Crusade both detail the war against the thinking machines and cymeks. Again another mistake on my part, I've been meaning to say thinking machines... lol, need my coffee :P

Personally, I'm afraid for Dune 7.  I really don't think Brian will let anyone see the supposed "notes".  Mainly because if people read the notes and then read Dune 7, they'll realize how much of the plotlines from his prequels he's added into it himself (as I'm sure he's going to do).  I guess the saddest part is that I'm going to read it no matter how much I dislike Brian for what he's doing to Dune.

I agree, AeonGrey (welcome to the board, by the way.  Enjoy your stay, and don't look Mahdi directly in the eyes).  No matter how much crap Brian and Kevin J. come out with, I'll be obliged to buy them, in the name of my collection.

Me too. As a Dune fan I have to read and possible buy the new books they put out. (Definitly have to buy Dune 7 + 8....which is obviously why they made it into 2 books.)

And if they are only given a year to write each Dune 7 book, then they may just be rushed and unprofessional as the Jihad books. (Like reading a childrens book.)

In my french book version, it is said that Kevin thought to write Dune 7 (and 8) before writing the prequels, but he prefered to do the job properly.

So, he thiks about dune 7 since his father's death... so I hope he will write a great novel which close the cycle well. 8)
