Emperor against 2k

I havent played Emperor yet, mainly because

my crappy computer cant handle it.

I was thinking about getting it when i uppgrade

my computer but is it any good?

The only thing that made me enjoy Dune2k

was ......well its Dune. Ive heard sevral critics

slay Emperor with arguements like Emperor

just beeing another "caugh up" in the rts genre.

Is it worth paying for?

That criticism is based on the fact Emperor is "too similar" to other previous games... you know, buildings are made from a Construction Yard, Harvesters go to Refineries and so on. But Emperor is BY FAR much better than Dune2k. Really, the only good thing about D2k was that is was Dune. But Emperor brings many more great features, like the semi-interactive campaign map, the subhouses and so on. And btw, in Emperor the Houses are totally different, each with its own unique units and stuff.

Agreed. It's just that certain critics heckled emp because they wanted something new, when there was nothing wrong with what they already had.

Well here are some similarities besides those pointed out.

Ornithopters: Atreides in both games, Harks get gunships as well in Emp.

Sardaukar: In 2k u capture the Emp's palace, in Emp you earn their allegiance.

Fremen: They're in both games and they're stealth in both games.

Wind Traps: Both games, power.

All in all its pretty similiar except Emp is in 3d and the classic tank rush doesn't work as well.

but to get the sardaukar you can also build a hark palace in dune2k.

I think you should experiance EBFD yourself. There will always be people who hate a game (for whatever reason) and there will be people who love the game. Unfortunately, the ones who hate the game, whine the loudest (due to the fact that those who love the game will spend their precious time playing :) ).

IMHO, If you are a Dune fan, EBFD is a must have. Just the graphics make this game great.

About system specs.. Well, if you have a 32mb videocard and a decent processor, you shouldn't worry too much. If you sadly do encounter problems, go to the link in my signature :)

Emperor is the best PC game out there. However it DOES require lots of requirements :'(

but think again, upgrade our comps and our comps will be better than the cyber cafes out there!

Some differences:

Scouting. A new facility in Emperor makes EBFD the best game out there.

Sardaukar: Remember the Sards in 2k? well they used guns on infantry, and missiles on tanks! but not anymore in EBFD. Sards have guns which are normally, guns. but sard elites have laser, which hit air units too. USELESS against infantry (sorry for excess caps). But wait, he has a knife! used to cutthroat enemies, he is one of da best.

Similarities:

Yes, the Fremen.

Sonic Tanks are more accurate in EBFD.

Devastators have legs in EBFD.

Deviators are hovering units.

Look, I played Dune II and Dune 2000, and I definitely do not think Emperor is a brilliant game. It's good, yes, but not the best (in my opinion). All I'm saying is try it out before buying it. You'll either love it or despise it.

I think Westwood could have tried something new with this game (Emperor). They probably thought that people would love it just because it is 3D and is made by Westwood. "From the creators of Command & Conquer" is what it says on the cover of my Emperor CD case - they're still trying to live off C&C.

BTW Emperor is MUUUUUUUUCH better than Dune 2000!

I agree, they could have easily done better. But even so, that does not deviate from the fact that it's a good game, and, old the WW RTS format is, it is still good as an absolute.

It *is* good. I'm not saying it's the best game ever, but it's fun to play, and if WW were more supportive, it would be more popular, and more widely accepted as the game it has the potential to be.

Heh, as if Westwood is going to say that they are letting Emperor die. Its obvious they aren't doing anything, when was the last time you heard anything from Westwood about Emperor?

Does that mean it is dying? Are you a Executive of the West wood company? No.. People can only declare a game officialy dead. if it is stated by the Company that made it. :P

Maybe they are making an Addon for the game just like Yuri's revenge or maybe not time will tell.

( Wow it would be real easy to declare a Game abandond. Oh wait Lucas Art's or Blizzard doesnt say anything. I declare the games all dead! ) :)

You guys may not know for sure but I do, there is no sequel for Emperor coming anytime soon.

Both Westwood and IG have moved on to other games.

They abandond RA2 right? Why did they even make a Yuri's revenge Addon then?

Yuri's revenge is kicking ass for the RA Fans.

I Only belief that BFD is dying if the WW Says so.

People always starts rumour's. But it isnt even close to the Word "fact"

I don't have a clue what they did with RA2 I never really played that game for more then a couple of weeks.

Did you not notice how Westwood still updates their RA2 pages and actually participates in the community? Notice how there are only two sites covering Emperor and that the official site hasn't been updated in a number of months and even then it was just the same news repeated again? Notice how the last thing Westwood did was release a map pack and that was in November? Notice how Westwood rarely visits the official forums and I am now the main moderator there? Notice how barely anyone plays Emperor online compared to the thousands that still play RA2 and other C&C games? Do you still need more proof or are you blind?

Yes it would be great if they released an expansion but its not going to happen unless something magical happens and Emperor suddenly starts selling like crazy.

Maybe they are Busy with some new games and New Stuff for BFD. Because they dont visit the forums or do some other Cr*p , Still doesnt mean they abandond it.

I believe when i see it. Did they Say about that they will leave BFD? No. Show me Solid proof and i believe
