The lack of Earth, Done on purpose?

wasnt there a meeting on earth that was after the BJ to settle the religions, which resulted in those really weird combinations of all our religions, navachristianity, zensunni, orange catholicism, etc? twas in the religion appendix of dune.

no the navachristianity was during the butlerian jihad. it was after they merged several into orange catholism, among those navachristianity. but zensunni did not merge with them.

when did the DE come out? I thought that I once heard someone mentioning that Frank didn't care much for the DE.

I always liked the idea that Earth had been "left behind" in the Dune universe. It just goes to show how far humanity has come in the millenia gone by. A sort of evolution in it's own right, I guess. And yet, through the vices and attitudes of many of the characters, you realize: The more things change, the more they stay the same.

the BJ is how far in the future?

dont you figure that we will have more eficient nukes by then?

maybe the nukes they used were mostly area effect with not nearly as much radiation as todays.

this means that the planet would be semi-healed within a couple hundred years.

which in turn means that the OC meeting could take place on an island on old earth.

the BJ will take a long time because of at least one reason.

the current harkonnen is xavier. the traitor harkonnen is ablurrd.

In one of the prequels, either Jihad or Corrino (I havn't read either in a while) its mentioned that archaeologists were searching for the location of humanity's homeworld. They had narrowed it down to either Rigel, Alpha Centauri, and Earth. However, the most prevailing theory was that A.C. was the human homeworld. Or something like that.

Even in the modern world of today, we don't know exactly where the first intelligent humans settled. We have an idea, but are not sure. The same thing happened in Dune, so many worlds were settled Earth was lost in the madness.

Also, I thought that the planets of Dune were in the same galaxy up UNTIL the Holtzman drive was invented. After that, humanity just spread across the entire universe. Colonizing world after world, galaxy after galaxy. Feudalism is instituted because it makes ruling the vast territory easier. House Harkonnen, I believe, owned fiefdoms in different galaxies, but could reach each world instantly because of Holtzman.

no they have always known in all the dune books that Earth was the homeworld of humanity. I have read Corrino and Jihad and cannot remember anything about that. and there is no planet in the duniverse which is called alpha centauri. Ecaz is a planet in the alpha centauri solarsystem.

If you read the dune appendix you will know that people did know that earth was the homeworld after the butlerian jihad.

Hmm, but I do remember some archaelogical finding of that sort. Read Jihad, Corrino, or the other books again, and make the attempt. I clearly remember something along those lines involving Dune.

However, it is possible that I am mistaken as to the book it was referenced in. I read Corrino and Jihad around the same time I read Hereitcs, and Chapterhouse.

I'm pretty sure I'm right, because I have a clear memory of it (it was something I found interesting, because they couldn't tell which homeworld was humanity's). Also, logically speaking, by Muad'Dib's time, since Earth is mentioned rarely, it is MOST LIKELY that they forgot about it. After 10,000 years, Earth would have healed its atomic scars, and what Emperor could not refusethe allure of planet Earth as a throne that enhances his legitimacy for its being the cradle of humanity? Furthermore, if there was another cataclysmic event that annihilated Earth, it would be mentioned, for it was recent history. Recall, that Salusa Secundus' destruction is mentioned, even though it was "ancient history", why not Earth's?

EDIT: It might be in one of those short stories! That would make sense! At least, I hope so...

I don't think it's a matter of forgetting about Earth; it's more that no one really cares about it anymore. I think it's an interesting aspect of the Duniverse. As I said earlier, people have grown out of their physical roots, but humanity itself has remained the same.

Yeah, earth is known to be humanities home, but sicne it's uninhabital most people jsut don't care about it. It's unimportant.

I am not gonna read Corrino and Jihad again, cos that would take me 9 months or so...

I don't think earth was unhabitable for 10.000 years. but maybe after the 500 years when the radiation was gone people didn't find any reason of reconstructing earth, since they had many other planets.
