  1. Maybe you can do something with slower and higher record speeds?
  2. 30,000 usd equals 1,000 copies. It is the turning point for a medium board game of medium quality. But depending on experience in making board games, target audience, theme etc. I'd say that only 1 out of 10 makes it that far into the 1,000 copies. Now decrease the chance by a factor 10 while only doubling the number of copies. I think you can tell by now that a game like MtG is a godlike success. Most board games are usually made by just 1 person. Or 2 people who thought of a game together and made it a bit more professional. Then a play test is done several times. By itself, friends, family, blind play test by normal players, perhaps by professionals. Who then sometimes hire an artist. For all the pictures. Who also might hire someone to check on the manual for correct rules, grammar etc. Who also sometimes outsource a game factory (for printing the board, cards, pieces etc.)
  3. Yes. But then the theme is mostly post apocalyptic. That triggered a bit of enthusiasm on the BGDF. I asked that question because I had to think of a theme first before moving on. That project is on halt for now for mechanical reasons. Number of pieces versus RPS effects is the main issue. Thank you for asking.
  4. I think they are planning a bit more than just graphics. There are discussions going on, on cncnet and other c&c forums. My greatest hope is that they work a bit on the balance of the games. There are some aspects that ruin the game for single AND multiplayer IMHO.
  5. All of them. Obviously Great to see a friend, still at work, still alive. Under Construction has always been my favourite.
  6. I don't know if it is true about the renaissance. What I am sure of is that you need to sell at least 1,000 copies to get in the profit zone. If not, more. It also depends on the components, quality and quantity, that a board game designer wants to add to the game. The weight of the boxes. The shipping. And of course the right game with the right target audience. It is better to only follow up after the audience has gotten wider. It is already small for the films etc. All together, it needs very careful planning and creating. Also, testing etc. I have yet to see test requests on this game. There are several stages to this. And if they are not followed sufficiently, things will go haywire at the end.

    Art of War 3

Any one familiar with the game? Interested in sharing experiences? Even if you think it sucks. I am all ears I for one, am enjoying it right now. Unlike PvZ2, I will stop with the game when it gets too much pay to win for my taste. Other than that, it too has a good single player game. But also upgrades for units like in C&C Rivals. At first meaningless, but if you encounter someone without upgrades. Let's just say that RPS doesn't matter much at that point too. The big difference between Rivals and AoW3? AoW3 is a real RTS game. They still force you a bit to play a bit online. But the first few are obviously AI that you play against. You can still go back to the single player campaing whenever you like. Gaining money and gold by grinding. Eventually, you should be able to get all upgrades and missions. I have yet to test this though. Another big plus is that it doesn't whine about you playing the game. Also, commercials are a choice. Not a forced upon thy.
  8. No problem. I did write it down a bit weird after all. In other news. I got myself a new Iphone. My saved games are gone. But the game is not. So I started with the Atreides. I discovered that mission 5 gives me soooooooooo much more points than mission 6 and 7. All 3 missions, I build only 1 refinery and watches the slaughter. After roughly 2 hours I ended the mission. But the scores are very weird. 5>7>6. I mean, I almost reached 1000 points in mission 5. Only 700 in 6 and about 850 in 7. Weird huh? But as said before, I suspect that the score system is bugged in my version. I checked some notes of you Nyerguds. And compared them to the game. Counted units etc. It's totally different.
  9. That 600 is based on your 800 for the refinery. I know that the helipad is 300. Refinery is 600. True that I put both comments in the same alinea.
  10. There is another game that uses the same concept. It is called Warfare Inc. It works more like C&C. Multiple units can be selected and commanded. There is RPS in weaponry. A good 14 mission single player campaign. And that for free. But that aside. This board game. I already had my eye's on it. But my experience tells me that this is one of those "great" idea's that will not see the day light. Why I have that conclusion? I know of a couple more games that tried the same. But all failed. These last 3 couple of years. On the other hand. This group of designers has put out multiple games out there already. They know what they are doing. And I think it is brave of them to try Dune. further more, they are on BGG. Which is a gathering place of the best designers for all I know.
  11. Sarcasm aside. I think that the board game makes a good chance... IF.... they finish that product. PS. Dune2 can be played on the android. And works even better then using a mouse and keyboard.
  12. Got something for you from the wiki. Maybe your soldiers can specialize in gathering resources from the plants and animals. As someone who has been playing around with balances for some time. I suggest to have your first game only have 1 resource for production of buildings and units. Active upkeep is a very bad thing to do, so you might as well discard the above quote. Instead, have a passive upkeep, like reduced income. See WC3/Frozen Throne for that. I like that rock climbing. Time to introduce some mechanical units that can do that too. Minelayers, I always wanted to see infantry lay anti tank mines and vice versa. If you go for fog of war. Have those Sand storms reduce the unit vision by 50%. Thus only 1/4th of the area. The best fog of war allows for objects to block vision in a cone. But I don't know how it is all programmed. How about path's and bases through trenches, these are unaffected by the sand storm. So attacking from outside is a bad thing to do here. But a vice versa effect like night time would also be neat. Being in the trench creates more night vision than outside. 1/3th reduction outside while 2/3th reduction inside. The longest cooldown so far that I have seen is the one of the V2-launcher in Red Alert. Maybe you can have something that has a cooldown of 30 seconds or so. A big nasty artillery tank that is slow moving. Needs to deploy. Then hits its target with a lot of splash. Range due to height differences? Take the square root of the height difference if the projectile goes from high to low. Thus 4 higher is only +2 range. Some projectiles like lasers and flame weapons will not have this advantage. The disadvantage of shooting upwards is best taken linear in combination with 3D fog of war effects. You need to get a scout up there. Well, so far my idea's. I bet most are unfeasable for a simple indie project. I really like that random terrain though. But does it have much influence on the campaign itself?
  13. You don't want a C&C Rivals clone. Trust me on that one. I wonder what happened to that indi game. That one looked good as a Dune 4.
  14. MrFibble beat me to it. But as a pointer. Make absolutely sure. ABSOLUTELY SURE. That you are using the right dosbox. I had 0.64, didn't get my kknd to run. Eventually I did get 0.74 after a reminder. And ALL problems where solved. Good luck.
  15. Your graphics aren't bad at all. Keep up the good work. The sound of 1 mech being able to become godlike is... to put it bluntly, not smart. Don't allow this for the major part of the game. Maybe that one mission for the fun of it. How are the RPS mechanics? And how are the terrain mechanics? Need any pointers for balance? The name BlightSteel is used in MtG. Hundreds of the same card to see. so... If you want to have your game found through google later on. You need to set up a page with pictures. With the tags BlightSteel and RTS.
  16. You just started? I was hoping to see some material to build up-on. I wish you the best of luck with your project.
  17. This forum is good as dead. If you want to make a card game and seek advice. Try this website: https://www.bgdf.com/ Create an account. Which includes introducing yourself to the website admin(s). Await approval of your account. Introduce yourself on that website of who you are, what you normally do. And mention that you are new in game design. And after all that you can tell your idea. Some people there are real professionals. I used to work on a RTS board game. And got pretty far with their help. But the bottom line is. You have to do it all by yourself. Good luck! And maybe I see you there popping up.
  18. I never expected to get an answer. I was still pondering on making a Dune board game. But we are used to the houses as mentioned in dune2/dune2k and emperor battle for dune. The board game would be limited to a number of "races". 4 or 6 races, due to cutting out excess material. But that was back then. Plans have completely changed by now. Chances are very low that the theme is going to be Dune. But thanks any way for the answer!
  19. pm the guy about this? Perhaps he has his email linked and can get the info he needed.
  20. So, I was discussing this with some friends. But they don't really know Dune. We have the Atreides, Ordos, Harkonnen and Corrino. Then we have the most important sub house, is the Fremen. But who comes next? Who is the next most important sub house that adds fuel to the war fire? And should Ordos be replaced by one of the original houses?
  21. Who else here would like to see something like that? And is any one ok with it being turn based instead of simultaneously? I am aiming to make a super simple variant. But I am unsure which game will be close.
  22. Question 24 on this site provides information. https://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/564691-dune-ii-the-building-of-a-dynasty/faqs/1521 I lost units (harvesters) on purpose. But also had a lot of harvesters. Not only that, but the mission timer was at 1:30 at the beginning. And I am now at 2:30 with the last report. The optimum was at 2:00. So, that is not a good way to go. Only if you NEED the spice, you can do this. But if you NEED the points. Go and stop at that 3k mark that I have as a safe point. Don't launch the orni's. But instead wait until the enemy runs out of steam. Then attack and leave the refineries. To bad that the harvesters are going to be dropped at random locations. Unless I build rocket turrets at the enemies base. Hmmmm. I think that should be my next experiment. Reload the beginning. And simply try that. PS. The provided link contains a lot of little mistakes as well. I wonder how trustworthy it is.
  23. Then you must mean $600 as speed. To bad that helipads are GDI related only, and only in later missions. With my experiments on Dune2. I got into a little bit of a problem. I managed to reach 1149 points, and going on with that AND sacrificing harvesters. My last score was only 1123 points. What is going on here? Is the time penalty increasing? Or is the AI getting slower? Does losing units also cost points? If so, then sacrificing harvesters is a bad way to go Searching for useful links. I do have reached about 65 units already. And it is getting harder to get additional harvesters. The sacrifice of harvesters is slowed down by having to much units. So, if I want to gain greater heights with this, I need to have absolutely no other units except of those that I get at the start of a mission. Next time, no extra units. Also no ornithopters ready to launch. Simply a heavy factory that pushes out extra harvesters. That way, relying on the Starport is less and less slow. But the score is the problem, if this doesn't get fixed. It has no use "cheating". Still, getting from 900 to almost 1150 is a lot.
  24. I prepared mission O-7 By planning ahead, I once again discover new things. That might or might not be known to this community. All Rocket Turrets, starting Harkonnen units, the CY and WOR's have been removed. I have the second island to the right as well, filled with slabs. The removing of all key structures was been done by borrowed devastators. I also tested the +1 to the north range. Actually, in the right angle, you have +2 range. I noticed how the devastator was shooting the rocket turret at a range of 7! I used some math as well to make sure. Could it be that the turret exit of the devastator is used instead? Or is it because it was an aim to north west in an angle of about 45-30 degrees towards west (10:30 - 11 o'clock) So you have several factors working together to get +2 range? I hope someone can test this too, just to back up my claim. Because it sounds so absurd. 8 High Tech are ready to launch Orni's for finishing the mission. I tested this and new Quads also fire at my Orni's. Even the devastators try. So far, the orni's are not shot down by them...yet. My losses counter at the safe is still 0. I have about 3k in spice. And 2/3th of all the spice is still available on the map. If you only build a wall of rocket turrets. You don't need much spice any way. I cannot get more harvesters by building more refineries. Apparently this has to do with the flying in carryalls and the 8 orni's that are almost ready. Somehow, I get the feeling that the Harkonnen stop producing when their harvester isn't returning. So I devised a plan to keep them doing so. I like killing devastators and quads (the only 2 units that are build). Since I can have only 1 harvester. I am going to fill it up. And instead of returning, I will blow it up on the map. Seeding the map with extra spice. I serenely hope that the scorched surface will still supply with spice. I think I will look for a couple of places to do this. While my counter for losses is on 0. The counter for kills is on around 130. It gives me about 900 points. I want to return to this mission occasionally for blowing up my own harvesters and keep the enemy sending stuff. Just to see if I can break my 3k score limit. Although, how many devastators and quads do I have to blow up for this? How many points do they supply? I can't find the points in the given link. I'll search this evening. I am sure somewhere is the information that I need.
  25. Yeah, I think I immediately tested that. And I concluded that you had a different version seeing as how I did get the money without storage as well. Never reported back on it though to reconfirm. Build Ref, cancel Ref, Build Ref, cancel Ref. etc. That is how I got plenty of cash for the next mission. I finished Ordos 6. I only killed like 130 units. Lost 0. And I used only 1 harvester Offence was 1 missile launcher and 4 raiders. Defence was a wall of 14 rocket turrets at a distance of 10 from the enemy base. With the given link, I think you can guess the map. Reserves where 50 combat tanks for 120 each, such luck Defeated the enemy after only 5 hours apparently. Then I emptied the map with another 30 harvesters. You get them for each refinery, after reaching the 99 limit? Yes, that was all I need. My score was around 950. I suspect a bug again.
