  1. For me, the most important message that isn't given is "Sandstorm approaching your base". Usually I'm micro-managing a squadron of laser tanks and only know about it when it's sucking up infantry by the dozen.
  2. Hello everybody, I was just curious to find out who else plays the Dune MUD (homepage is http://dune.servint.com/). My latest character is a Fremen named Grumman. So who else plays? Alex
  3. Now, what the internet *really* needs is a 12 year old-to-English translater. "IM AN INTALIEGNT BNG WHO WIL B STUDYNG M3CHATRONICS AT UNIEVRSITY THIS Y3AR!1!!1!! WTF" God save us all :D Alex
  4. Does anybody else use the tactic of deploying mortars/kobra and then building walls around them? This protects them from direct-fire weapons, but do people think this is worthwhile? Alex

    ROTK

Sven was using pig latin. remove the 'ay' at the end of each word and move the 3rd last letter to the front. Simple 8) Alex
  6. You do realise why this offer applies? We don't have any w***ers in this country ;D Those sheep jokes are completely misguided. They should be directed at our New Zealand neighbors. Alex
  7. Does anyone know the technology and weapons banned by The Great Convention? I know that atomics may not be used against humans, and the use of thinking machines is banned, but is there anything else people know of? Alex
  8. [Edit]I tried to talk to them, while they were still standing at the lower-right entrance. They didn't talk, instead they walked into my base and became Contaminators. Are these the Sardaukar I have to contact? Alex
  9. Ok, in the Ordos campaign, you are attacked from the far-right Harkonnen border. The mission involves a Sardaukar patrol that has been cut off by the Tleilaxu. I have finished this twice, after finding what I thought was the patrol, but after the mission the Mentat calls it a lost opportunity, or something similar. Is this supposed to happen? And if not, where is the real patrol? Alex P.S. I will find the exact wording if it would be of any benefit.
  10. Thanks IxianMace, I might have been waiting a long time if you didn't tell me. The username works fine. Alex
  11. Gerbilpoo: I believe the reason Dunenewt said another sub-house was impossible is because you can only have a maximum of 3 houses and 5 sub-houses. Warskum: There are ways to get around the scout/fremen picket line when using IX, such as mixing in a few real units or projecting scouts to see their scouts. But I agree, compared to Fremen and Sardaukar, they are harder to use against human players. Alex
  12. Mine will be AlexHolk once I get the confirmation email. Be merciful :- Alex
  13. I know that it doesn't work if only one person has the mod, but if someone asked you to try a particular mod, would you be suspicious? Say I asked you to try a 'really cool' mod that you hadn't tried before, that was available on Dune Editing (the closest we have to an official mod list). Would you agree to play? Alex
  14. I'm sorry for bringing this topic back, but I have to add my opinion. I would suggest that Innoculator9 should remove this mod from his website. The only change to the game is the addition of this Jackblade unit. This unit: costs 50 credits builds extremely rapidly is very fast is poorly animated has 2 powerful sonic weapons and is invisible And this unit is only added to the Atreides side. On my first test of this mod, I was annihilated by the addition of a single Jackblade (that I know of) to the AI force. I was not expecting such an overpowered unit in the game, so when it appeared it wiped out 3 Laser Tanks with one shot, then disappeared. Only 2 units I had built were able to survive more than one shot, a Harvester and a Sardaukar Elite. The only purpose for this mod is to gain an unfair and uninteresting advantage over either the computer or another player who has been fooled into playing against you. Alex
  15. Thanks for your replies everyone :P It is unfortunate that the house limit applies, but the other information should be useful. Alex
  16. If I may, I would like to return to the question of best units to project. When projecting units, it is important to take into account what house you are using and who you are fighting. Also, speed is essential, to prevent your projectors getting clogged with images slowly moving out of the way and to avoid being shot. For all teams, the Laser Tank is one of the most useful units to project. They are fast and manouverable, allowing rapid production and dodging. If micro-managed, an opponent must hunt them down or they will hit-and-run at any weak points. Against Ordos, they have the additional advantage of the Holtzman effect, destroying their vehicles easily. When using Ordos, or if a large number of enemy aircraft are being built by the enemy, Ordos APCs, Sardaukar Elite and Missile Tanks are useful to bolster your defence and to provide additional targets in case the enemy tries to soften you up first. When fighting Ordos, Laser Tanks and Sardaukar Elite provide one-hit one-kill anti-tank units. For Harkonnen, images can be used as a form of ablative armour, providing many targets while letting your real forces gain experience. Engineers, Buzzsaws and Flame Tanks as a diversion can be used to draw fire away from your units. This tactic is only really useful if time is not a problem. Fremen are useful for hounding your opponent, sneaking them into his base and opening fire, or left around the map on guard mode. They are a constant annoyance, as units disappear if not watched. Leeches are effective at drawing fire, and can produce real units. Alex

  18. I apologise if either of these questions have been asked before, but I haven't found them when searching. 1. Is it true that you cannot add another house without removing an original house? The main reason I ask is in order to make an observer 'house' with an unarmed air drone or something similar, to watch the battle. 2. Is there a maximum number of buildings/units/weapons that can be available? If so, how many? Alex
  19. I heard that the scientists/researchers found a way to overcome this, which they used when teleporting the photons, etc. I can't remember how, unfortunately. Alex

    Joke

How To Create Bureaucracy, Policy, And Procedures 1. Start with a cage containing five apes. In the cage, hang a banana on a string and put stairs under it. Before long, an ape will go to the stairs and start to climb towards the Banana. 2. As soon as the ape touches the stairs, spray all of the apes with cold water. After a while, another ape makes an attempt with the same result-all the apes are sprayed with cold water. 3. Turn off the cold water. If, later, another ape tries to climb the stairs, the other apes will try to prevent it even though no water sprays them. 4. Now, remove one ape from the cage and replace it with a new one. The new ape sees the banana and wants to climb the stairs. To his horror, all of the other apes attack him. After another attempt and attack, he knows that if he tries to climb the stairs, he will be assaulted. 5. Next, remove another of the original five apes and replace it with a new one. The newcomer goes to the stairs and is attacked. The previous newcomer takes part in the punishment with enthusiasm. 6. Again, replace a third original ape with a new one. The new one makes it to the stairs and is attacked as well. Two of the four apes that beat him have no idea why they were not permitted to climb the stairs, or why they are participating in the beating of the newest ape. 7. After replacing the fourth and fifth original apes, all the apes which have been sprayed with cold water have been replaced. Nevertheless, no ape ever again approaches the stairs. Why not? "BECAUSE that's the way it's always been done around here." Alex
