I rented the Animatrix at the Movie Gallery the other night. I've watched it twice so far...Really, really good. It answers a lot of questions.

Feel free to discuss it here, but warn if you're going to use any spoilers.

No, the website only has four of the nine animated shorts available for free. The other five include a 3D CGI animated short about the Osirus (sp?), made by the same people who made the Final Fantasy movie; the "Kid's Story" short, if you remember in the Matrix Reloaded a certain character who claims to have been "saved" by Neo...This is the underlying story; and a few other shorts, a few that were a little hard to understand, but I really liked most of them. The DVD (not sure about VHS) also includes a commentary on some of the shorts, including "The Second Renaissance" Parts 1 and 2, and "Program"; both of those are in subtitled Japanese. I'm sure it contains more special features, those are the only ones I've had dealings with so far.

Sounds interesting. I liked the free Animatrix movies that were posted online. I will have to pick that DVD up. Thanks for the info Lord_Johnsonius.

Have it. Love it. The one with the skater kid had poor animation imo (but a good story) and the one with Olympic racer was boring. The last one, with the machine conversions, was kewl as hell though.

Also strangely enough after I watched the second rennaissance, I sympathised more with the machines then the humans, did others feel the same way?

in part one of the second rensanise i did...but in part two.....i wanted to kick some machine ass 8)

that scene where the guy gets cut from his mech and ripped out still comes to mind... :O

The human race and it's blind rage became it's own undoing. The machines still could have wiped out the humans but they didn't in fact not because they needed humans for energy but because the machines would like to destroy humanity, but they CAN'T. Instead, they need a human to make the choice. They were created to serve humanity.

I expected to like the "Osirus" animation best, because of it's quality. However, I actually prefer the Second Renaissance, much more interesting. I also agree about the Kid's Story and World Record. I didn't care for the machine conversion one though, it didn't make much sense to me.

I have seen the "last flight of the Osiris" animatrix on TV. It is great computer animation but adds nothing to the original movie. I hope it's not a new trend that computer graphic is just duplication rather than creation.

Oh yeah, The Animatrix. Pretty cool. Loved the various artistic styles. Not a great fan of anime, but as an artist, I loved it.

Especially the artists from Akira and Aeon Fluxx. Gotta love 'em.

like ... the cat is attracted to that house because its a hole in tthe matrix and gravity doesnt apply.

if those people know how to break the rules (like gravity) they should be able to do it elsewhere

it does. firstly i think that was a previous matrix. secondly that area was a glitch in the system (also you should remember that the cat is itself just a program), which is why the gravity was all skrewed up, and why all that weird stuff happend.

To put it more precisely; The people don't know how to break the rules, the rules are simply different in the buggy area. This includes the weightlessness etc.
