Damn damn damn,

the sites down again:(

one of my sites got over 10k hits per day and the servers couldnt cope so they pulled the plug, sigh.

So im looking for another host again, with cgi capabilities.

Any ideas?

Could it be hosted here?

If so would i have ftp access to update the site?

just an idea :)

let me know all your thoughts.

The sleeper MUST awaken :)

Obviously, Only Gob can say yes, but I reckon it'd be a rather good idea. For one thing, people from here would more likely see your art, which would be good. Plus it might be easier to communicate things.

Insofar as I can give it, you have my support for putting it here.

Is Gob still about? The last time i was "really" here, he was busy busy busy.

IF it were to happen Id still like to point my www.orlok.co.uk to may part of tthe site as the url is so well known, and id like to incorporate links from this site into mine, so really it would be another way in like a gateway,

I had already linked to this message board, with gobs permission, through my site a while back, which worked well for both of us. (i thought that having my own board would serve no purpose other than to split the existing dune communities.

Id like to see fed2k as a kind of hub to bring us DUNE fans all to a central place.

but as you say, this is up to the GOBster!

im just waffling really, as Im hung over!

OMG orlok, you're back! Nice to see you!

As for your hosting requirements, if your site really did get 10k unique visitors a day you should really think about getting a dedicated server as it's cheaper, more reliable, you don't share a server with someone else etc.

Don't go cheap either, 10k unique visitors a day is more then at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/ , and they have more then 500 users online at each given moment and they need 4 duel xeon servers with everything coming with them.

Here are a few links:

http://www.rackspace.com/ (Nice webhosting company)

http://www.rackshack.net/ (Nice webhosting company)

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/ (If you need some professional help)

http://www.findmyhost.com/ (If you need some unbiased reviews of alot of hosts)

Orlok, if Gob can't host you, I would be glad to. I have a total of 30GB of bandwith and only 0.467859 GB of it was used in May. If Gob can't, then I would be happy to help you... Here would probably get you the most traffic though, because it would add your users plus all of the people that view Fed2k.

hello all. the DUNE site itself didnt pull much as really only dedicated fans used it to have a peek.

My other (now defunct)health site was the main puller.

But as ive decided not to open the health site until (or if) i get funding in 6 months or so time, id like to see the DUNE site back up as it was my first online project all those years ago.

The only large files were the deleted scenes from the video, lent to me by www.usul.net . But now those are availabe in the DVD version of "alan smithee's" Dune.

So i actuality its not that big a site file size wise.

just all standard HTML.

Let me know what you think.

Well hosting the Dune site probably wouldn't be a problem. Once we get moved over to the new server I will let you know, that should hopefully be in a few weeks time if we don't hit more roadblocks.

Frodo,

thanks for your offer, is very generous of you.

If possible id rather keep close to Gob's site, as we've known eachother since he started it, and to keep the cohesiveness of DUNE sites together.

There have been so many smaller sites that have popped up (some using some of our stuff unathorized) that i think the merging of the two (If, indeed it does go ahead) would show people where the tru info comes from, and also the fact that we cover different areas of the Duniverse, i think would also be beneficial to both.

Hitswise, im not too worried, i just want to make my past and hopefully future works available to DUNE fans who maybee dont know much other than the games or mini series.

I myself dont own the latest dune games as im not a huge RTS fan, so its good for me to read the info stored here about the games.

anyway, im waffling on. suffisive to say, that i do appreciate your offer.
