If some of you visit Planet Half-Life, from time to time, you may have noticed that more and more news are about Half-Life 2. Strangely enough, Valve/Sierra has not officially announced it's arrival, which (according to rumours) will be released this year, probably around winter.

Personally, I think it is quite possible. They may have worked with the original Half-Life engine to produce a newer one, as well as creating a whole new single player campaign. I really hope, at least, that Half-Life 2 will be as good as Half-Life is/was.

What do you think about all this?

I think they said the absolute minimum for running HL2 will be 700mhz, 6dx or something. Even more rumours: they are planning for Half-Life 3! It's true!

...6dx or something...

Are you refering to directx? Then I think the minimal would be 8.1. However, (but I have absolutely no clue as I didn't know there would be a second half-life game) it might be used directx 9 features in it.

Is American PC Gamer different to English PC Gamer? Mine has nothing about Half Life 2 in it. Oh, and FYI Unreal 2, not so great.

I expect this game to require about as much, or maybe a tiny tad more than, Unreal Tournament 2003. That is by looking at the graphics.

More, I presume. More than UT2003 requires.

But deffinately not as much as DOOM III - THE LEGACY. Now THAT game needs a monster computer.

I think it's too early to guess how much it will require.

Unreal Tournament 2003 was beautifully programmed thus lowering the requirements.

Games like Generals are spilling out polygons on it's special effects. Not very good programmed either.

It remains to see how good Half-Life 2 really is going to be.

But I hope for a positive surprise. :)

DooM III is in a totally different graphics category. It aims very high on computers and is revolutionary like ID's games usually are(with the exceptance of Return To Castle Wolfenstein which was far from revolutionary, but with nonetheless good graphics)

I think Half-Life 2 will aim on the general computer, not the supercomputer.

DooM III is a very, very great game when not lagging(I was surprised when trying the alpha leak)

Yeah, i would recommend to wait for HL2. According to that PC Gamer report Hl2 will provide great possibilites for modders. They also tried to design the editor as "mod-friendly" as possible. There will be also a new method for Synchronization, so that you don't need to do that yourself anymore (no crappy synchro-quality anymore !)

i recently bought the Half-Life Platinum Pack.

i hate Half-Life. the graphics and sound are horrendous. the audio static during anyone's voice lines is so loud and overbearing that for many of the lines i can't even tell what words are being said since the static drowns the words right out :(

i bought it mainly for CS, but I find that CS also sucks

what REALLY ticks me off about the whole deal is, Sierra didn't even bother putting the discs in jewel cases. so naturally the first copy I purchased had the defect of "dotted-white lines" streaking across your screen at certain points in the game. this is caused by data stored on the CDROM disc being damaged and scratched up due to lack of jewel case protection and not reading properly during the install process. things like this usually happen when developes skimp on jewel cases. hard to get immersed in a game when as soon as I turn a corner there are two dotted-white graphical defects mocking my hard-spent money.

for Sierra turning into cheap, immoral jerks --- immoral because the packaging does not specify that the CDs are not jewel-case protected so the buyer doesn't even know he's getting screwed beforehand - I am going to boycott Sierra from now on. they would never have done this kind of crap 5 - 10 years ago.

That's not true... ::)
