The worm must be going pretty fast to get enough food, already established. Now, to make that much degree of a turn, at that speed, there is no way the fremen could predict where it would be.

As for a thumper, 1) where is it, 2) A sandworm would go straight for it, not go to the side, and make a 90 degree turn.

The sietch could be a big rock carved to resemble a sandworm for ritual purposes, it would take long time, but it is feasible.

The 'fremen' may not be fremen, then. We assume they're fremen because they're in the middle of the desert. They could just be stupid water-fat...

or just drawn in there without much thought.

Besides, I thought sietches were found within rock outcroppings, not just bits sticking out (as they were in Dune I).

as far as i know both pictures are non-dune. i just thought they were interesting. Yes the fat head is pretty dam ugly. But the silver one is interesting.

And a third sandworm for you. a more classic one. i think of some 70's dune calender.[attachment archived by Gobalopper]

That page with more giger pics, has the wrong descriptions for the pics! thats not a harvester or a worm. Those were concept pictures for the Harkonnen palace in that one wierd dune movie that never made it by jordowsky or whatever. giger also made the aliens in the movie alien
