dczx
I wonder if this is the word Fedaykin came from. I was reading in the paper about Iraq's armies and read "Saddam Fedayeen". I looked it up on the internet:http://www.fas.org/irp/world/iraq/fedayeen/interesting..
Vanguard3000
Well, the Fremen language was based primarily on Arabic, so it probably came from that term.
Inoculator9
I agree, that is definitely possible.
Caid Ivik
Feday (singular of fedayin) means something like what in Emperor is a saboteur. Martyr-warrior, whose only target is to to as much damage to enemy as can in the fatal attack. As the kamikaze pilots or most terrorists. Difference between shaheed and feday is that shaheed can be even usual soldier who fight in a djihad, but with some will to live.
nemafakei
Almost definitely the same word. Notice that Arabic has its variations in dialect - it is spoken across a huge area, so I would say that the word is very likely the exact same word, though could be a slightly different word in that the kin/een bit could be a different suffix root. Caid Ivik
It is transcripture. Like you write Kim Il Sung and we Kim Ir-sen. But there are more dialects of arabic, i.e. some use for "son" word ibn, others bin, some ben...

technocrat
;D :O ::)Joke:rename our GIs to Sardaukars would increase their efficency against the Fedayeens.end of jokeI am not being serious and I think this is a very bad joke, however, the idea of taking words out of languages that few reader speak is lame. Vanguard3000
I was at MSN.com (my homepage, until I find something decent to replace it with), and I came across this article. It has a pretty neat picture of the Saddam Fedayeen.[edit] Whoops! Here's the link: http://msnbc.com/news/892635.asp
