Quote This

This was taken from the FAQ page. Can the command be changed to "quotation"? It should be changed because quote is a verb, not a noun, while quotation is a noun. The example should stay as "quote" however

Well, it can be both. Like love. I love you. Verb correct? Well, using it as a noun it can said thusly: My love for you is great. Verbs can be used as nouns, vice versa probably on some occasions.

This is a quotation from Webster's New World English Grammar Hankbook on page 334:

QUOTATION, QUOTE:Quote is a verb. Do not misuse it as the noun quotation

Incorrect:That statement is a quote from your last speech, Senator

True, except for the "formulaic pair quote...unquote used in a dictation to introduce and terminate a quotation is first illustrated in the OED in 1935"

- Fowler's Modern English Usage.

Why make it longer? I would rather just have it be [ q ] then extend it out to [ quotation ].

That does make a lot of sense; that should be done

Why can't we just leave it the way it is? It's easier this way, considering every board I've been to has used "quote"

"Quote" is grammatically incorrect. I am a grammerian. I used to correct the grammar of my teachers.

Also, I correct the grammar of the rabbi of my synagogue (Did I spell that correctly?)

Is the

grammatically incorrect, or the "Quote:" above a quotation?

The "Quote" above a quoteation is the biggest problem; nobody except the author sees the code. But, they are both grammatically incorrect.

How did you make it say "Code" instead of "Quote"?

Quotation from: Acriku- on March 12, 2003, 20:11:11

code tag does it :)

Then, I could quote people using the Code tag instead. Is there anything else other than hidden text that makes a box like this?

The code tag is used for something else.

This:

, to show codes.

I know that, but it is better than using "quote" (like I am doing now).

A little off topic, but there needs to be a tag such as:

And the result would be the picture with the alt-text "My little Flag". Doable? ??? Or at least some way to add alt?
