Hi, I am number6 ...

Apparently most members have no idea who I am. My nick is number6 and I have been a member here for a short time (July 2002). The reason I came to this site was that the Westwood emperor message forum was closed and Nyarlathotep, a friend of mine from the Westwood emperor site, told me I should check this site out. I used to help out from time to time in doc nyar's "Lockup thread" back when emperor first came out. The reason that thread was created, and got so big, was doc Nyar's clever way of trying to have all technical problems in one thread instead of all over the general forum. People would come to the boards, post a problem to a thread, and sometimes it would be missed because a lot of people posted to that forum. It was resfreshing to have a member so willing to help out and I sort of gravitated to that thread. I started finding out I also liked helping people with there tech support issues. When I came to this forum and saw that doc was carrying on this tradition I started posting there, occasionally at first, and it started feeling like the old days when Emperor first came out.

I consider myself a Dune fan, but there are many people on this board that know way more about the subject than I. I have read the first 4 Dune books, but could not get into the others in the series. So why don't I post much outside of the tech support forum? Short answer: I usually have nothing to add to most of the other forums. Do I contribute to the community? In my own way I do, but certainly not on the level many others do. I have downloaded some of DJCid's mp3's and I can see why people see that as a bigger contribution than just offering tech help. It does seem that more people like to post in the tech thread and offer help which is great and at the same time seems to dilute any contribution I have made.

I don't know what to tell all of you that will change your opinion of why I am Landsraad and many more deserving members are not. The main reason I post here is to have fun just like 90% of the rest of the members. Doc Nyar thought enough of me to nominate me and the Landsraad voted. I consider it an honor to be Landsraad because a good friend of mine kept nominating me for a position that meant something to him. Like Gob has said in earlier posts Landsraad has no power, this is a dictatorship as it should be for a personally owned website. I do find that the Landsraad forum is a very well behaved forum not like the general forum.

Well that's a little of my history anyway. Who would have thought a title would have brought up so much discussion. I would like to thank all of the members who have shown support for me during this past day of relentless arguing. To the members who are upset that I am Landsraad and they are not I have to ask one question:

What do you think has excluded your nomination?

From what I can see all of the Landsraad treat all members with respect. If you can't do that I think you will never be a Landsraad member. That's my 2 cents on the matter.

The problem with some people's perception is that they don't see this as they should. Quality over quantity. You haven't made a huge amount of posts but nearly all of them are devoted to the assistance of other members. You haven't posted mcuh in areas where people just talk, you've posted in an area where people ask questions and you and a few others answer them. Thats a service, you don't just talk for your own enjoyment you answer people's questions and give advice.

Well like I said I do enjoy solving problems and it may be more fun for me than you think. Sometimes I hold back advice because I am afraid what might happen if the person with the problem makes a mistake or something unexpected happens. It is difficult offering tech support via a message board. As a current example: Procyon needs his Windows partition reformatted, but he obviously is hesitant to take that step. I wish I could just pop in his house and do the task for him. It would take me like less than an hour and he would be up and running. Unfortunately Procyon lives in Chile which is very far from Baltimore, MD USA.

When I checked in on FED2k again after about a couple of days, the thread that emprworm started on the protest against the Landsraad was already locked. :P I read it in the dungeon, and I do see emprworm's point. I think I can understand how he feels on you (Number6) becoming a member of the Landsraad so quickly, and why it would anger him. However, the Landsraad means absolutely nothing to me, I see no value in becoming a member at all. I just found it a curious title, and always wondered what the people that were in it, actually did. I'm more than content to stay as a normal member, I don't care if I'm in the Landsraad or not, it's not of my concern. Equally, I don't care who is in the Landsraad, as long as they're in there for the right reasons, and as emprworm said, not just because of some 'getting the buddies into the Landsraad' thing.

Being a member of FED2k itself is rewarding enough for me. I think people are taking for granted the fact that they are part of a community that is much better than most of the communities in other message boards I have had the pleasure (and displeasure) of visiting. That's my 2 solaris on this matter.

I don't think anyone is denying emprworm or yourself from having an opinion on the matter. The fact that the thread was locked was because of all the flaming going on in the thread. I think everyone knows emprworm's point of view on this matter and now I am sharing mine. With much less drama I might add.

I'm not very familiar with Landsraad, so I think thats one reason why i've not been nominated. And I am sorta a new member so thats might be another reason.

well i do want to be in lansraad but like i've said a few times it's only to spite dj and get my own avatar. so i can wait until people think enough of me to let me in. ;) lol. seriously this really shouldn't have been that big of a deal. the one person that emprworm seemed to push doesn't really seem to care either. lol.

i agree, number6, you deserve the title. I also think that you should become a tech support mod, but that is just my opinion. You are a big help, and within 5 minutes I had a reply for tech support from him, Thank you alot Number6 and Nyar. :)

Well doc nyar is already the moderator of tech support and there really isn't a need for any more mods there. Thanks for the compliments though.

Hey #6, why don't you post a link to you song here... I wouldn't do it without your permission and if I just linked to the thread in the Landsraad no one could view it. But I think they will enjoy it, we have a few musicians on the forum already... hell we could make a band ;D

I don't know what you have done #6, but if DjCiD *FEW*, Inoculator9, and Vicious say you did all of that, then I beleve that you are a big help then. These guys have been hear longer and been into the other people within the websites, so I trust their jugments.

Here's the link:

http://w3.mivlmd.cablespeed.com/~number6/cgi-bin/Alternative%20Radio%20-%20Fallout.mp3

I did not compose it though. It is a rare recording by a group called "Alternative Radio". It is only on LP as far as I can tell and I got it from a friend on a "Prisoner" related newsgroup. I have a couple of other tracks by them that are also good and Prisoner related.

my bad I took it as being you made the track, I still like it anywho ;)

It is my favorite Prisoner related song, that's why it is my theme song here. :)

if Nyar trusts you, than I think you are a darn good person to have on this site. :) Welcome! ...even though you have been here a while.lol And I already know how you have helped so your cool in my book.

I really don't think emprworm meant any offense to you. Your responses in the tech forum are prompt and helpful. I think it's a well-deserved position.

And welcome to the general forum! (seeing as how you've been here for several months)

Thanks TMA-1 and ACElethal. I am just trying to make sure people here know who I am since it was brought up several times that nobody here knew who I was.
