I'm against it, but for different reasons. I believe serial killers should be executed. It is impossible to rehabilitate them, the vast majority asknowledge that if they ever get released they will kill again, and it would give there victims families some comfort. However, I cannot advocate the death penalty becasue the system jsut isn't perfect, pure and simple. Innocent people would die. So, I'm content to see Bernardo rotting in a jail cell (at least until a gaurd gets carless and some guys fromt he general population break into his little hideaway).

I agree with Mahdi but I'm confused about the "exercise yard" - why make the convicts strong enough to beat your arse and obtain weights as weapons and throw it at the guards? Just give them a book and off with 'em.

The problem with deathpenalty is that there are always some innocents that get executed. I can't stand innocents loosing their lifes >:(.

I'm totally against the death penalty. I'm glad we don't have one in Netherlands (only a really small pathetic party wants to able it)

- A state who kills, is a far more agressive state

- No court is perfect, what if you killed someone innocent

- If doesn't matter, countries with the death penalty have a higher crime rate then countries which haven't

- Someone who is death doesn't 'suffer' anymore of his/her punishment

- There is no way you can 'cure' a criminal then.

- You need someone do to the execution, so the executer will be a killer

Don't you just miss the days where there was a strong man in a hood with an axe ready to...ok never mind. The Justice System should be changed to where the science speaks for itself, not some mushy story that suades the jury.

There were some article in the newspaper about a black man in USA who finally got released from his death cell. He had been there for 16 years while he was innocent :O!

The cops didn't believe him when he said he was not guilty so they tortured him and gave him new identity and threw him on death row. I don't call that a "mistake"... That's misusing power!

Absolutely against it. Murderers are cruel and inhumane. We cannot respond with more cruelness and inhumanity. Just like one of the greatest men of all time said, "Only love can conquer hate." That was Martin Luther King. It was relevant then, and it'll be relevant for the rest of human existence, as with most, if not all, of his philosophies.

People make mistakes, and like others have said, courts aren't perfect. Innocents dying is absolutely unacceptable.

I see a huge contradiction in any society that practices capital punishment, but prohibits suicide.

I'm all for the death penalty, for when letting someone live will serve no purpose whatsoever (ie repeated crime, probably violence during incarceration, person in question is undoubtedly guilty of serious, deliberate offences). But 'undoubtedly' is difficult to attain.

people who are for abortion are for the death penalty. so that means almost everyone here is for capital punishment.

Ok. In that case, everyone who is a Christian is an extremely left-winged socialist. Planning to move to Norway anytime soon emp?

There was one guy over here who got 800.000$ for being imprisoned and innocent for 8 years.

Anyways, I think, if there was recources for it, that each person who will be executed instead gets to work the rest of his days, say like in a mine or some other place where physical strenght is required. While he/she is working, people are sent out to find proof for his/her innocense. But, if the person is truly a murdurer, well, then he gets to work for the rest of his life. Maybe cruel, but it is a solution.

And no one can say that just because we didn't create life, we can't under any cirkumstances take it away. That is, one one side, right. But what of all troops and soldiers during a war? They don't either have the right to take another person's life. The crule fact is that you have to pay equaly, I kill you, the law kills me.

And what if I really are a sane person, I pay my tax, I am polite, got a job etc, but sometime, just on some occasion, I get an idea that I will commit murder and rape? What if that is my mind? Try to teach a wild lion not to kill for the food for example. How would it understand? It is natural for it to kill and eat, and keeping itself alive as well!

to be totally honest:

i can't say, and here's why. I do not like people being killed, and even though i do not believe in god i do remember this.... if a human kills another human. that human should be killed as well. I think that's a bit harsh, however... people who have committed 2 or more murders does not deserve to live IMO. If you take another persons life, you have no right to live (unless it is out of defence ofcourse). And if there is not 100% proof against someone, he should not get death punishment.

I have no objection to that. :)

In fact, in my case, you are absolutely right.
