Too many nicks

I'm posting this because I wanna know what's up with all the nicks people use. Some people, believe it or not, have over ten.... I don't know if they are afraid to lose under one nick or what. Maybe they like catching people off guard.

Now some say "It's the only way to get a QM game." Well that is great but everyone playing QM faces the same problem. People are actually punished for using one nick. The multi-nicker knows what to expect in terms of how one plays if his opponent uses his "regular" name. The person with the "regular" name won't know what to expect at all, cause he never heard of that person.

Anyways, with roughly a couple hundred nicks in Emperor, most of them probably belong to a couple dozen people.

Then some people go thorugh the trouble of coming up with new nicks even for play in skirmish....

i've got a couple friends.. wont' say who...

that have some names just for some fun...

it is kind of funny when a good player .. not as good as them..

comes into the game and sees their name with no clan or rank and automatically assumes ..NEWB!!... and then when the game comes they usually play a lil slacky cuz they figure it will be easy and r shocked when minos r sitting outside their base with drones in their spice... LOL

well i have like 9 nicknames. i just make a nick when i get into a new 'period.' for example when i started watching evangelion again i made a nickname for eva. i even made a clan. don't ask me what the names are tho b/c i don't even remember half and the few i still remember i use as 'anonymous' identities. i'll tell you all three but you probably already know them

most "clans" in Emp these days all have mass multi-nick cheaters in order to illegally push clan rank by using the above-mentioned cowardly acts to fool the same n00bs into playing them dozens of times in order for said "clans" to have their ranks illegally pushed. there was some threads about how cable2ghz/gunwounds does this in FEW a few months back and since then everyone else has followed suit too.

so in conclusion, to answer your question, people have many nicks because they are either cowards, cheaters, or cowards and cheaters

I got ducked by like 10 people in a day under acelethal. And I never get clan games either. Everyone's busy or their waiting for someone or their checking their pot roast or something.

But seeing as how I don't play tourneys anymore (cept for a couple QMs to try and even the house ladder), you'll always find me online under the nick acelethal. And in case you cared, past nicks include;

acelethal, breaker14, m1st3rx, surlypig, hoopnhopr, cnadntank, harkmark2

Nav don't be such an extremist. I have 7 nicknames, and I've NEVER pushed ran, NEVER used them in the same month, NEVER even had two in the same clan. Don't make generalizations that are so clearly false. Not everyone is like cable or bilbo or those two guys from FEW.

And frankly, the most notorious ducker in the game has no right to call anyone else a coward. The only reason I have 7 nicks was because there were too many people with your attitude ruining the spirit of competition.

and i've never used my nicks to push rank. hell, i don't even rank. i do it if i A) as a few people said to mess with friends; B) to be able to play without people knowing my strategy; C) just because i enjoy what the nickname is about. at least like 5 of my 9 nicknames were just spur of the moment things i decided to make b/c i saw something cool or something.

speaking of nicknames though. Who can remember their very first name? i know rogue1896 wasn't my first name. my first name was something that i threw in so i could get into WOL. i tried like 2 names, got pissed, so i just threw in a bunch of numbers and letters and got s1p2e3a4r. that's SPEAR with the numbers 1-4 in it. lol.

well you're lucky. apparently you picked a name that you liked and were able to get into WOL. i can't really remember too well but i think first i tried rogue, then i tried spear, then i tried rogue1, then i tried spear1, got pissed and typed the s1p2e3a4r thing. eventually that got lame so i tried to make rogue again. i tried rogue1, rogue2, rogue3, so i got pissed again and just typed rogue and a bunch of random numbers which just happened to be 1896.

I understand when people might we have diff nicks for QM ladder, totally correct, to avoid ducking. The 3 times I played for the QM ladder I used harrip0tt twice and jaira once, nobody knew it was me until the end of the month.

But when it comes to customs games I think you should stick to your main nick, at least that's what I do when I play ebfd, I always play as zamboe. I really find funny that some players use a diff nick in customs, besides in some cases it's quite easy to find out their main nick.

i didn't duck you all that much in QM, I'd play you for the most part. if you want to know what "ruined the spirit of competition" when I played you, it is when i check your stats before letting the game start and I see hopnhopper as: "oh a 400 point Hark, I can probably take him" and then the game starts and you use your impossible-to-counter Hark strat on me. i would have been more mentally prepared to compete with you in that game if I knew who the heck i was playing. not that i woulda won or anything. i did ask you who you were at the very start of the game, and you ignored my question. then after i was completely dead, i asked you who you were because by that point it was abundantly obvious that you were nowhere close to being just another 400 point Hark - and you didn't even bother to have the courtesy to tell me who you were. i didn't flame you or call you names or anything like you say Duke_Leeeto always did after he lost, and you were still rude about not even saying who you were by just ignoring my Q. that is not very good for "the spirit of competition" furthermore, i should have had the right to choose to not play you in particular because you literally have strats that are entirely impossible for ATR to counter, like the one you used on me in that game. i've asked you on WOL several times how you would have countered your own strat you used on me in that game as ATR, and not once did you ever provide me with a reasonable answer that would have actually *worked* based on how *your* unit formation was set up. the reason you did not/could not provide a reasonable answer is because there *is* no reasonble answer - that strat can *not* be countered by ATR when you are the one using it

For once, I am somewhat on the same page as Navaros....I don't know what that means =) Would he be more prepared in QM for example, yes. Should he have the right to decide who to play and who not to play.......yes, believe it or not. Ducking isn't something I support but it is intentionally allowed by WestWood! What if a d/c cheater switched nicks and then screwed him over again by doing the same thing he did under another nick?

Every strat can be countered in EBFD simply because the game is well balanced and all units have a counter unit, whatever the houses are.

Do not waste your time in arguing this well known fact nav.

yes, undsputed that's a great point. if everyone was only ever allowed to make ONE nick per CDKEY then Emp would be sooooooooooooo much better because all the cheaters would be known and they could never change their nick and DC cheat you like ipiphoura changing his nick to elmajico and DC cheating me to steal my hard-earned points when I owned him in QM. everyone knows that Ipiphoura is a cheater, but what good is that knowledge when he just changed his nicks every month? Allowing more than one nick to be made per CDKEY is totally ludicrous.

rigel69, you do not have enough experience vs. elite players in *real* (read: QM) games to be telling me that any strat is counterable. i'd bet you've never even *seen* what i'm talking about pulled off effectively. any unit is counterable, sure, but any strat is *not* counterable.
