DUNE Tribes Game

Tezcatlipoca

Recommended Posts

Another random joiner. Well, he played like 7 minutes with me, and I explained him things, he understood, but after a little melee figthing and desperate tryings to penerate shield with machinegun he said "This is not for me."

Well, I will just stick on the server and wait for players that actually want to play. :)

And oh, by the way, ground cars get damage on ground impact. :-

For anyone that's interested, i've got some more screenshots that a player took. They're pretty good, and two of them show the worms.

All the Screen shots are available at http://jmods.bravepages.com/duness.html

These are the new ones:

http://www.planettribes.com/daf/DAFOriginalDownloads/FremenAttack.jpg

-Shows three fremen defending the mission objective, and watching the Harkonnen base.

-There's a dead Atreides trooper to the far left, and a dead Harkonnen Trooper to the left background, just right of the leftmost fremen.

-In the background, left of the Harkonnen base you can see the worm (the sand dust just above the surface of the desert).

-The Fremen to the left is wearing a Thumper on his back, while the other two are both wearing CamoPacks (lets you hide under the sand for ambushes). They all appear to be sniping the enemy atm.

http://www.planettribes.com/daf/DAFOriginalDownloads/Tracker.jpg

-Just a picture from inside a Tracker, a fast, light, scouting groundcar with a forward machinegun. Quite equvilent to the Westwood games' Trike.

-Background is the Atreides base seen in earlier Screen Shots

http://www.planettribes.com/daf/DAFOriginalDownloads/Slaughter.jpg

-Inside an "Arena" where everyone is trapped, and kill eachother while defending the arena objective. Real fun for getting your melee skills up.

-The guy to the left is an Atreides soldier with his shield up.

-The guy on the stairs is a Harkonnen trooper

-Notice all the lovely dead bodies :D

http://www.planettribes.com/daf/DAFOriginalDownloads/RunningWithTheWorms.jpg

-This one's great. The objective is on a rock hill to the left, where the worm isn't allowed to go.

-In the center is either a Harkonnen or Bene Tlielaxu soldier, shield activated, running as fast as he can to the safety of the rock.

-The dust plumes is a sandworm fast on the heals of the soldier who foolishly left his shield on in the desert... I get the feeling he didn't make it to safety.

-The guy taking the screenshot is a fremen (safe from the worm) with his crysknife out.

http://www.planettribes.com/daf/DAFOriginalDownloads/WormAttack.jpg

-This one is showing a worm attacking. The big mass for metal looking objects is the worm I built for the mod. Sure.. doesn't look perfect, but the fact that you don't have to download anything makes it worthwhile ;)

-Scytale obviously couldn't outrun the worm...

-The worm is a small one. Theres one other that's a size larger then that one.

After some work, one of the Dune Tribes players and I have completed 3/14 skins for ingame play. We took some Screen shots of them, and I just wanted to share them with anyone who may be interested.

All screenshots can be found at http://jmods.bravepages.com/DUNE.html under the "Screen shots section! Click here!" link. And on that note, here they are! :D

Refresh your server list Jack. My IP changes occasionally and throws things off.

Unfortunately, the server is only hosted in the evenings (~6:00pm Eastern Standard -> 11:00pm Eastern Standard) which is probably too late at night and early in the morning for you to play :(

But I do try to get it up by noon on saturdays and sundays, and keep it up till early morning on weekend nights.

But.. (although I say this a lot) it is getting close to being done. So with any luck you'll be able to download it soon, and have you or a friend host it for all the people in Europe! :D

Tezcatlipoca, about your sig, you need to use forum coding for it to work.

Here is what you should use:

[ center][ url=http://jmods.bravepages.com/DUNE.html][ img]http://jmods.bravepages.com/thumbs/skinCS3Thum.jpg[ /img]

[ color=whatever is easy to read]JMods or whatever you want to call it[ /color][ /center][ /url]

minus all the spaces between [ and the next character.

that would look like:

skinCS3Thum.jpg

JMods or whatever you want to call it

Andrew, to show him the code correctly simply post it side a code box:

JMods or whatever you want to call it

Ah. Heh. I changed it one day at work during lunch. Never bothered to.. fix it.. heh. But didn't know about the forum specific script; thanks.

Btw.. in reguards to the mod, more then half the skins are done now. I'll post the new ones.. eventually. The completed ones include (shown) House Corrino Sardaukar, House Atreides Soldier, House Harkonnen Soldier, and (not shown yet) House Atreides Trooper, House Harkonnen Trooper, House Harkonnen Sardaukar, Minor House Soldier, and the Minor House Trooper

For those of you that don't have Tribes 1, and as a result haven't been able to play this sweet sweet mod for it, :D fret no longer! According to a recent post I just saw at www.planettribes.com and again at www.fileplanet.com, Tribes 1 and Tribes 2 are soon going to be put up for free download at fileplanet on May 7th (7th? might be 4th can't remember now. Early may anyway). So... basically you don't even have to purchase, or try to find somewhere to purchase, anything to play it now. Which is good, because visually it might not be all that impressive to non-normal tribes players.

So for those of you that haven't played it yet, (everyone except Jack from what I can tell :P) if you want to play it, your chance has arrived. Just give it a month.

And to increase ALL the MASSIVE suspense, we only have 4 and 1/2 skins left to do before we can put out the clientpack, which WILL make things look a *little* prettier. I'll post SS as they become available.

Yes, a friend of mine told me about this two days ago (or was it yesterday?  Stupid brain!), and I've been meaning to post it here.  I'm glad to see it, since I only have Tribes 2.

It should even run on my computer in Ottawa, which has only a crappy, no-name video card (aside from that, it's more than enough to run it at 2.4GHz).

"Is it possible to have a good portion of the mod done when these games are released?

Then you would get the most attention!"

-The mod, for the most part, is fleshed out and working. There are still buggs to take care of, and new ideas are always being generated by myself, and other players on the website fourm(although most get tossed for various reasons). Right now for example, the worms are disabled as I'm about to go through and rewrite most of their movement scripts, to hopefully cure a few bugs and some lag issues. Those will probably be done by then however.

The clientpack may or may not be done by then. I've got one other person working with me on it, and we tend to work in short bursts in reguards to it.

But, yes. By the time the game is up for download on May 4, the mod will be sufficiently fleshed out. In fact.. it basically is right now. The major functionality is all in and working (not including worms as i described above).

I want to try and get it done soon, so that I can make the mod available for download. One of the big problems is that people like Jack Leaf, and any other European residents that become interested in it, have a hard time getting on during the hosting hours. I can also see some problems having to do with minor lag additions because of the location issues, although Jack said he doesn't have much or any. But I may hurry the release for the mod up, so that a few people in Europe can host it for those that want to play it there.

But I'd also like to have more maps available before I put it up for download, as well as having the clientpack already out there.

"It should even run on my computer in Ottawa, which has only a crappy, no-name video card (aside from that, it's more than enough to run it at 2.4GHz)."

-It'd run fine at a 10th of that speed :). Or at least normal base Tribes1 would.. Never tested DUNE Mod on anything as slow as a 233.

"I was just watching again those skins, and the Harkonnen ones look a bit silly. Is it possible to make them look more like soldiers than mafia bouncers?"

-Of course. But.. once those skins are done, they're done. As it stands now, that will be the skin for the Harkonnen soldier. I like it personnaly. Basically the point was to produce a reflection of a military issue MC jacket uniform, which was more popular in the 30's 40's and 50's. Then of course I made it blue. You'll probably like the Harkonnen Trooper skins, which has a more "traditional" Dune look. But either way, anyone that isn't happy with the skins can of course make their own, name it the same as the ones here, and those skins will be used on your side rather then the normally distributed ones. Theoretically of course; I've never actually tried it.

One of the things I've tried to do, which this will make a lot easier, was produce some sort of attention specifically at in these forums for it. Obviously I was hindered obnoxiously by the fact no one owned the game. But we've (myself and the other players) been attempting to mold the DUNE Mod community into a more... social, and partially RP environment then what tribes normally is (which is usually log in and start killing). I think most of the people on these boards are quite talented at that, and would love to infuse the DUNE Mod community with those types of people.

Tomarrow's the big day! Who's ready! Who's excited!

I am! A lot more bugs have been fixed, and some new functionality added in preparation, as well as a new map stuck in. The client pack is on it's way (although i wanted it done by now), and I'll hopefully be posting the next round of skin SS from it tomarrow.

So who all is planning on downloading it? Even with the download wait, I highly doubt that you'll be dissappointed. And if you are, I want to hear WHY! :)
