IxianMace Posted December 13, 2002 Posted December 13, 2002 Heh, try doing that after allowing the comp to get some vehicles. ::) Also, why do you post stuff that is related to Emperor Battle for Dune in this General thread? There are places where things are meant to go.
lowzeewee Posted December 14, 2002 Author Posted December 14, 2002 iI thought this was talking about the uses of the harkonnen engineer and how good it is so it should be strategy.btw, try mixing them together with some buzzsaws and tanks when possible and when u attk buildings the enemy might not notice that engineer going in as he is more interested in stronger units like maybe missile n inkvine attkin the buildings
BRAVO Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 hey you discover that mini-strategy all b yourself? ::)
IxianMace Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 Their pistol is actually very powerful.WHen u use 5 engineers u can kill 2 light infantry and then capture many buildingsI'll start by giving some unit vs unit likely outcomes:1. Two Harkonnen Flamethrower Infantry will own a Harkonnen Engineer. They could probably own more before they take enough rounds to die, and before they die, they would probably achieve at least two chevrons, making them tougher and harder to kill, resulting in further deaths of Engineers, which is pointless and a waste of Solaris. ::)2. Six Atreides Light Infantry own one Harkonnen Engineer. They could probably own more before they get shot, and achieve some chevrons, resulting in a loss of money for the player that is using the Engineers.3. Eight Ordos Chemical Troopers will own one Harkonnen Engineer very easily, and they will do it en masse, resulting in major loss of Solaris for the player that is using the Engineers.4. One Atreides Sniper will probably be able to own almost an unlimited number of Harkonnen Engineers simply by shooting them at long distance and then running away to reload. Repeat as many times as required. The Sniper might even make it to elite status. So in a nutshell, Harkonnen Engineers suck as an offensive weapon. Unless the other player is a moron, he will have more than just 2 Harkonnen Light Infantry (which take less time to train and cost only 1/8 the price of the Harkonnen Engineer), and you will lose much more money than the other player in engaging in this type of combat with those units in a standoff. You should back up the Engineers with some rushing units, like lots of light infantry, buzzsaws, etc, etc (this is when you're playing as House Harkonnen btw) in order to prevent or at least try to protect the Engineers from getting killed while you send them to capture enemy buildings, not engage enemy units. ::) Hopefully, you'll be able to capture at least one building, preferably the Construction Yard, Factory, or Refinery, in that order of priority before they become threatened or your diversion/escort force is overwhelmed. Then you can pop up flame turrets in the enemy base and destroy their remaining structures by popping up flame turrets non stop and harassing the enemy base. In the case that your escort force overwhelmes the enemy defences and enemy units, then you've already won the game.

Anathema Posted December 20, 2002 Posted December 20, 2002 1. Harkonnen engineers live up to veteran in 0.000 % of all games ::). Then you have one elite engie. They are impossible to get except in a mod game or against a comp.2. Even if they are powerful in elite, it can get killed by any infantry in large numbers, except the troopers and kindjal.4. One flametank, one mino or one kobra and they all die3. They do a much better job capturing buildings then killing troops ::)
Timenn Posted December 20, 2002 Posted December 20, 2002 I read in the rules.txt that they need not much killings for veterancy
IxianMace Posted December 21, 2002 Posted December 21, 2002 That's true, they don't need many points at all. However the fact that they are so slow, weak and vulnerable puts them at risk all the time when they do attack. Only a severely wounded light infantry unit or a scout would be no match for a fully healed Harkonnen Engineer. ::)
ken124578 Posted December 23, 2002 Posted December 23, 2002 I once had an level 1 engineer in multiplayer 8) 8), the only time i had elite ones were... 1 year ago when i still thought that the AI was the most difficult thing to play against :O :-[
NetWerx1 Posted January 28, 2003 Posted January 28, 2003 do engis self-heal when they gain chevrons?Ihope they do ;D
