The other day, I played a game as Atreides against Hark. I sent one regular Atreides infantryman to attack one Hark infantryman. The Hark won. Atreides is supposed to have the best infantry as one of its house strengths. Anyone know if the basic Hark soldier has an advantage over the basic Atreides soldier?

I did not know that, Rino, even after all this time. I thought the basic infantry from all three houses cost the same. So do you think a group of, say, ten Atreides regular infantry would lose to a group of ten Hark regular infantry?

The atreides infantry can go back to their barracks and train more experienced in fantry when they reach level 3. The only way to find out which is better is to host and play an infantry battle artr vs harkonnen...

As always some will say atreides, others harkonnen

As i play infantry battles often, regulary i get level 3 atreides, the only problem is that during the battle i forget or even do not try to get them back in the barracks.

I know that, Rigel. It almost never happens. It's one of the problems with the game. If Atreides is supposed to have the best infantry, I think they should come out of the barracks with one chevron to start with rather than hope to have one survive long enough to veteran up.

But that's not my question. I just want to know who is actually superior, the basic Atreides soldier or the basic Hark soldier. We all know that the Ordos chem trooper is better than either of them.

According to the Rules.txt file, the build time is the same. The walking speed of the atr. infantry is 6.0, hark is 4.0.

Both have 600 hit points. The ordos chemical trooper has 575.

as i told Taq in a private message: i prefer Atr inf over hark basically because of what earthnuker cited. Atr inf is 1.5 times faster than hark inf. Hark inf is 10 solaris cheaper and (i believe) has a bit stronger/faster gunfire, though negligible when combined with units. I suppose that straight up hark inf beats atr inf, however who would use inf w/o supporting units? Since atr inf can move faster than hark inf, the advantage is tremendous. move atr inf with goose, bikes and you have some serious capability.

However, i'd take ordos gas over both any day. :)

The extra speed is an advantage in early game so it can shoot at laser tanks before they drive out of range. Hark would be too slow to do that.

Anyway, when I play I mainly use infantry as cannon fodder, to soak up damage for other units.

^Not stronger, just faster ROF. Check the Rules.txt...by default they use the same bullet, [HeatInf_B].

i thought atr inf has longer range..

^See above.

hark inf puts the beat down on them.

^Actually, they both have the same number of HP.

Hope that cleared some stuff up.

U see,the harkonnen troops use machineguns while the atr troops use submachineguns. And the harkonnen troops also have a torchlight below the machinegun :P making them fire more accurately ;D

That's just nonsence. They do the same amount of damage, and they both ALWAYS HIT. The hark troop does fire a little faster, granted. But it's also 2 leptons-per-second slower.

don't worry about that. it's just spam ;D if i could find that old picture of SPAM i'd post it here, just for kicks, but i don't remember where it was. Dj used it in a post a while back at SR's forums. anyway, back on topic.

i agree with emprworm. who would send in infantry without supporting units? and light infantry at that. i always send in SOME kind of unit to support my guys. i don't just send them off to get slaughtered. Two, maybe three machine gun turrets, flame turrets, or gas turrets could take out mountains of light infantry. and one mino or maybe two kobras can do even more. it's suicide.
