I am thinking about getting either Baulder's Gate 2 or Neverwinter Nights, but I am not sure which. Has anybody here tried them? I don't really play multiplayer, mainly the campaigns, if that makes a difference.

Neverwinter Nights is good. It just has a weird bug that you can trap yourself between 2 enemies and a wall or pilar. You have to make a strange crossing and jumping move to unlock the game at that point. But that rearely happends.

If you'r a RPG fan, and like D&D youprobably love it. [ at least that's what they tolled me, I'm not a D&D fan ;) ]. I havn't played BG2 myself.

i have BG 2. i bought it only because all the reviews raved about it. the critics were totally OUT TO LUNCH about this game! it SUCKS!

the script and voice acting is INCREDIBLY BABYISH! some examples of lines that are actually in the game, i kid you not!:

"where did you get that ridculous accent from, reading too many trashy romance novels...?"

"i'm not dying here... this place is just too scary!"

and several others that are just as babyish which i can not remember at the moment.

one of the main characters has a "space hamster" which he hides up his rectum! believe me i am NOT making this up!

for your main character, you get to choose from a number of "voice sets", which is the ONLY voice your main character can have. he never has any scripted lines in the game, the *ONLY* time you HEAR your main character speak is when you move him around on the screen, where he says thinks like: "if i must!" and "let's make this quick and painful!"

every single choice of "voice sets" you have (there are about 3 or 4) was recorded by a VERY unqualified voice actor who quite literally sounds like he was mentally-deficient. the voice acting was among the worst i've ever heard in my life.

of course, most of the time you won't even be listening to voice acting, you'll hear a voice-acting line the very first time you meet a character, then after that you have to *READ* all the stupid lines as text rather than hearing them because the developer didn't bother to pay the mentally-deficient voice actors enough to record more than a few lines per character.

the graphics are likewise horrendous. they are blurry, detail-less, and just plain-ugly. no wonder the downloadable demo of the game was pulled. the graphics in BG2 are what you would have expected from a game released in 1996. BG2 is a very very poor imitation of Diablo 2... the only difference is that Diablo 2 has a less babyish script (even with khalim's members etc.!), much better gameplay an graphics, a smooth intuitive interface as opposed to BG2's horribly awkward and clunky interface, and you get to hear every line in the game spoken by a GOOD VOICE ACTOR in Diablo 2.

the interface in BG2 is among the worst i have ever seen. your characters don't even attack the enemy by default! you have to understand the clunky interface and MANUALLY SET THEM to an "ATTACK SCRIPT" as soon as you start the game. that will have you pulling your hair out before you've even played for half an hour unless you happened to have researched this horrible-design decision BEFORE you ever load the game for the first time.

on to NWN: another poor man's version of Diablo 2. The graphics, gameplay, and voice acting of Diablo 2 blow NWN right out of the water. The graphics in NWN suck just like they do in the BG games. Each character model has virtually no detail at all. The camera in NWN is fixed at an unbelievably awkward angle. Even the developer-fan-boys of NWN agree almost unanimously that the singleplayer campaign in NWN blows chunks. The only way to play multiplayer is to use GaySpyWare Arcade, which provides for jerky, choppy, unstable gameplay.

In additon, you can only ever get to CLVL 20 in NWN. In Diablo 2, you could actually build and customize your character to CLVL 99, making him stronger and more personalized with each level up. In NWN, once you have levelled up just 19 times, you can forget about your character because he's reached his limit of development and therefore FUN (what fun is playing a character once you've already maxed him out all the way???). That leaves you with about 15 hours of bad gameplay, and if you were able to tolerate that, NWN will have *nothing* interesting left for you at all. Of course, you can always make yourself a DM and give yourself a maxed-out character will all the highest possible stats and weapons, so playing online doesn't even mean anything. Unlike in Diablo 2 where each high-level character had to EARN his experience by playing online (on closed BNET), in NWN someone can just whip-up the strongest possible character in a matter of a few minutes.

both these games (BG2 and NWN) royally suck. i really really really wanted to like them, but the extreme babyishness and and horrible horrible gameplay and design make the BG games and NWN unplayable

that's nice nav, but for some reason, i don't really care. The graphics look pretty good to me. I don't really care about the voice acting. And I have heard that Neverwinter Nights single-player isn't as good as Baldur's Gate 2, so I think that I will get Baldur's Gate 2.

I think Diablo II is better. But only with expansion pack. It has much more (altough hidden - i.e.set Dol and Io runes into necroman wand, effect is nice) possibilities, also more action. BG2 is more adventure.

Depends on what ya like. BG2 has good story and is quite tactical... The graphix are somewhat aged but the game is long and cheap...

NN has great graphix and beautiful models.. the action is kewl and the story is ok...

it's all up to you

The quest for the ultimate items for your character never ends :D

Yeah DiabloII is my personal favorite as well. But i think Frodo want's a more tactical game.

I'm looking for a game with a good story, and excellent single player. I don't care about multi-player. :)

well, BG2 has great story. NN i don't realy know. but i think good as well

Diablo2 has a very good story too IMO, and i think many would agree..

Single player in Diablo2 is incredible. Multiplayer is even better.

So in that case i would advice you Diablo2 preferrably with the expansion Lord of Destruction

Remember, when you play Diablo II: LoD online, you can play alone if you wish. It's good to have an online character, cause if you needs some extra lvl's quick, or need some help with a quest, you can ask for help and people will help you (at least I would :)).
