dczx
What happened? Why did Frank Herbert go porno?
Mahdi
Go porno? How old are you?
Kryptonite
He's right! I flipped throught the books and they are nasty! Imprinters? That's sick! Why couldn't he make the books more or less decent like the first one? The first one wasn't perfect but at least its wasn't porno! Also, Herbert blew up Dune. That is just wrong. Acriku
Please elaborate on the activities that you so eloquently pronounce as "porn". And no I don't wanna get some honey-honey :P
Anathema
You flipped over that? Sick? You know, your parents had sex prior to your birth ::).I think its pretty...weird that FH started writing about fighting whores and stuff.
dczx
When they start imprinting an 9 - 11 year old boy, that is sick.
TMA_1
I have to say. frank did use a lot of sexual activities in his books. Surprisingly though brian and kevin are pretty bad too.lol I think though that frank did it just right. sometimes its good to bring in those issues. Timenn
That some difference between children books and such books as Dune's (and other literacy)Writers don't see theirselves limited to censor 'porn' (look in a lexicon what porn means, just call this sex) when there is no reason to. And it can add something to the storyline...
Acriku
Yes it does help sometimes...but boys? Don't think that helps much :P
Caid Ivik
Read one slovak book from a "modern" author and then try to call Heretics or Chapterhouse porn. Bah.
quoudam72
Neither one of the novels (Heretics or Chapterhouse) come close to pornography. There are sexual situtions and reference to sexual acts but nothing as it is presented in pornographic material.
Inoculator9
I agree that Dune does contain a lot of sexual situations, but it's presented well. It contributes a great deal to the storyline. Imprinting in the story was a means of control. And they weren't imprinting a 9 year old, they were imprinting a several centuries old general. The kid wouldn't be imprinted the adult would be. And the sex thing in Chapterhouse was the alternative to kicking the shit out of a 9 year old.
Inhuien
Given that the constant theme through all of Herbert's books is one of development, and in particular genetic development in the Dune Saga how is he meant to convey these themes without referring to sex?And regarding the "seduction of the Ghola" it is not child abuse. There were reasons for the sisterhoods actions, and you should also keep in mind the "age" the Basher that was trapped in the immature body.... Did no one get these points from the first few books... Ali of the knife perhaps..
Inoculator9
Exactly, a lot of the stuff shouldn't be taken at face value. You have to think about it a little more. Dune requires a lot of thought, and someone who thinks it's porn obviously hasn't given it any.
dczx
The American Heritage Dictionary:pornography - written or pictoral matter intended to arouse sexual feelingsOkay... so maybe that wasn't Frank Herbert's intent in describing sex scenes? Yes, he was trying to show that the BG and Honored Matres use sex to control situations, people and groups of people. That's great... I guess. I just thought all of the description was a bit... extra in comparison to his other novels, maybe superfluous.
Alexander_Ordos
Well I recently finished reading The Chapterhouse and I must agree that Frank had an aroused interest to sex stuff, perhaps because he was getting old...dunno but some scenes( according to my well evolved text - to vision transformation) were looking kinda "adultchannel". :) But Dune's not a children book afterall... Colonel_Worf
Brian and Kevin like the word penis... that's for sure. :)
Inhuien
The American Heritage Dictionary:pornography - written or pictoral matter intended to arouse sexual feelingsI agree with that as a definition of what is and what is not Porno, But perhaps u'll agree that it means that the work as a whole is intended to to arouse sexual feelings, And the whole of heretics and Chapterhouse is not. Inoculator9
Exactly. I don't think Frank Herbert wrote the greatest work of fiction to give someone a boner.
GhostHunter
Err, thank you for giving me that idea << Shutters at thought >> Anywho, it opens up, come on people be realistic, sex is everywhere today and Frank was only bringing a new realism to his books.
