I totally want to go see this national park you have. It looks like surely its one of the coolest parks in the world.

but DOG GONE IT how in the world am I supposed to afford going there? Click on "how to get there" on the link and check out how much cash I have to fork over just to go see a national park.

grrrr..... >:(

maybe visitng Mt Thor will be cheaper. i havent checked into the access of that park. hopefully it will not be nearly as steep. (lol! i just realized what a hillarious pun that was)

Just as the page states..."Clearly, you should try to co-ordinate your trip with other travellers, to ensure that chartered aircraft are full flying in and out and costs to you thereby reduced. Carrying 10 people in and 10 out would cost about $2700.00 per passenger return airfare from Resolute Bay to the park."

Dj that was un-called for...

Ellesmere Island? That's quite a long way to go to see a park. Sure it looks cool, but mainland NWT should be have the same wildlife/topography/climate. I went on a month-long canoe trip down the Mackenzie with my cousins, and man what a month. Best trip I've ever had in my life. Remember that EVERYTHING is pricy in the Arctic since everything has to be flown in. The government pays professionals heaps of money to work there running the towns and "airports", etc. Once you get up there, there's absolutely no roads, so if you can't fly, you're out of luck. There aren't even that many flights going there since very few people want to live in such an inhospitable climate. But the landsapce, oh man, it's incredible! If you've ever been to the Grand Canyon you'd know the feeling of smallness you get when you first see it and how absolutely massive it is...It's the same for this area. So big, so cold, so desolate, yet at the same time so peaceful and beautiful.

You might somehow be able to organize with a group of people whom you don't know just to share the plane. I'm sure it's done, I mean, who wants to play 27,000 dollars for a round trip to ANYWHERE?

so was his post in that one thread but im not pointing any fingers ;D

27,000 did i read that right? round trip? Is it not accesible by driving?

What's so special about this national park that it should be so expensive just to look at it? Why can't it be made more readily accessible?

Emprworm, you should go and see the Great Barrier Reef down off the coast of Queensland, Australia. I've heard that the reef there is very beautiful. I just hope that it is preserved in its natural state, and not ruined by humanity in times to come.

It's so expensive because its in the middle of nowhere. Canada is a huge country we can't exactly afford to make a road to the middle of nowhere so people can get to national parks easier. :)

Then whats so special about this park that they couldn't build it closer to civilizatoin? Ooops I'm talking about Canada aren't I, what civilization. ;D kidding, please don't ban me, I'm ignorent of how many people live in canada almighty Gob.

Where are you walking from/to?

The biggest problem with roads is that in the winter it would be impossible to keep them clear and in the summer the ground turns to mush and the roads would be completely wrecked by frost. It is hard enough keeping roads in good shape in the southern areas of Canada. And you don't build national parks. ::)

For $2700 you could fly ruturn home to australia and see Fraser island worlds biggest sand island. The rainforest here is breath taking.its world hertiage listed or you go to the daintree in cairns.Rainforest inland or the great barrier(all within 20minute drive)The australia dollar is very low here so it be nice cheap holiday 4 you.
