Ok, I'm trying to start a grass roots thing here. Do you use this site a lot? Have you appreciated that there are no banners or advertising pop ups on this site like I have? How much have you gotten from this site? Now, how much have you given back?

I got really worried today thinking about WW financial problems and decided that I didnt want this site to suffer a similar fate. I know that it cost money to run this board and I am not a rich person, but I helped out in a small way by sending 10 bucks to Gobalopper@Dune2k.com using paypal.

I hope that other people in here who value this site will do the same, and hopefully Gob will use the money to fund the website, I think its a good investment. There are no advertisers on this site, and if you use this site a lot and appreciate that there are no banners, I am asking that everyone consider sending 10 bucks or whatever you can - even modest amount- every now and then to make sure we have this place.

I have seen the collapse of the dot coms, people use and use web services and never pay for the services, so the services inevitably collapse. If you value this site like I do, please consider making at least a modest donation. And no I'm not trying to brown nose Gob or the staff so dont go there, I only want to give back in a tiny way. I have taken much from this site, the least I can do is give back. I am hoping that many others will join me.

If you can make a small contribution to this site, please post in this thread. You dont have to say the amount, just post so we can get some people involved. I hope I wont be the only one.

Please do not corrupt this thread with personal flames, I am trying to encourage people to SUPPORT this site, which is a GOOD thing to do. Go take your lying flames elsewhere. I am not speaking on behalf of anyone but myself. Gob didnt ask me to do this and as far as I know he might lock this thread and demand that no money be sent. Well fine. But let it be known I am not claiming to speak for Gob or any Dune staff. This is entirely my own doings.

I don't pay anything for this site other then the domain name every year. If you want to pay someone it should be our hosts who give all this for free.

well thats still 70 bucks a year, plus all the time it takes to run, and maybe you can put an email address of the ISP that pays for all this bandwidth (and server use) and people can send them a donation if they so choose.

I love this site!! It's the best site I've ever been to!! However I don't have a job, and I really can't send any money because of complications with my parents and all that s**t (please understand). I use this site everytime I come online. I do appreciate that there are no banners or advertising here, it's quite a unique experience actually.

Interaction with Emperor and Dune fans/community

Maps, editors, mods, etc, etc, for Dune 2000

Maps, editors, mods, etc, etc, for Emperor Battle for Dune

The pleasure of knowing that I'm not the only Dune fan in the world. :)

Things I've given back to the site:

NOTHING. Why would I want to give the site the stuff that I downloaded back to it?

However, there are things that I've given to the site:

I should also have a simple small mod out for Emperor Battle for Dune soon. All I really can do it make maps, and get involved with the Emperor community because I don't want to see Emperor die due to lack of interest of peoople just leaving because they don't care about it. Unfortunately, I can't help to fund the site because like I said earlier, i don't have a job yet, and transferring money over the net is something that I'm not familiar with at all, and there are complications and security reasons etc, etc. But I love the site, and I'll continue to come here as long as I have net access and I can find the time. If no one came here, then the site wouldn't be much of a fansite at all, would it? I know that I'm just 1 person out of at least a million others, but it still counts, doesn't it? :(

IMHO, that is a twisted and sick way of expelling someone. It's also manipulating people's desires for a separate agenda. You are forcing people (or manipulating their way of thinking) to pay money in a way, and making them work for your own ends. I'm seriously against this. :O :( >:(

Navaros, you would have to keep paying money to post your 'brilliance' on Fed2k. The people that want you banned would have to keep paying to get you banned if you countered their payments. Gob would be the only real winner here, since he gets the cash, and you and the people that want you banned keep losing money in a lose/lose or a 'stalemate' situation.

Agree with the main idea. This is one of the best fan sites/message board add free that i know in english. Good work Gob. Don't forget Doc Nyar, how many times his advices has helped lots of ppl avoiding spend extra money in tech, hardware and of course time. Thx to both of them.
