Hotmail no longer have pop-mail?

Has anyoen else notice that all mention of pop-mail on hotmail has disapeared? Did they get rid of it?

It seems to have disappeared on everything but the help topics. If you go to search, under help and type in "pop-mail" you'll get 11 results.

Yep they canceled the POP service effect July 16th.

I'm not really a veteran to email jargon, so what is pop mail and why was it good?

Well there are different types of mail servers. POP is the most common and Hotmail used to let you check them but now it costs you money. So if you are on the road and wanted to check your ISP email account you couldn't do it with Hotmail anymore.

All the "free email" services have been cut down. There was a lot of missuse with it.

That's why you have to pay now for extra services.

In a way we got of pretty good. The plans where [ at some point ] to quit all free [ web-based ] email services. You would only be able to email with an registerd providers account.

But luckally those guy's where quick to realise that is impossible to acomplish at this time. So they just made some .. .adjustment.

For a side note, the person who made hotmail, sold it to microsoft in '98, for 400million US dollars.
