*hunkers down behind my own little bunker*

Is Harry Potter an accurate portrayal of Witches,Wiccans, Pagans, etc. in your opinion? Why or why not? Also, is it making the youth of this planet more inclined to worship Satan and/or become a witch?

Yes, I know this topic may get out of hand, but I think we can remain civilized. The reason i ask this is, I have been researching what the Wiccan Online Community thinks of Harry Potter, and some other things such as it being ripped from public school libraries for its Satanist propaganda (supposedly in it).

Personal i feel harry potter has as much conversion power as dune has to mau'dibism. The only reaso it has been poked at is becouse the kids like it and it has to do with witchs and such. There are hundereds of childerends books that have to deal with magic and such and are much more into witchcraft then harry potter. It just gives the parents a well needed thing to bitch about.

I don't even know why I'm posting here :) but I will say a little something. I think people, Americans especially (I am American by the way) are becoming overly sensitive. This reminds me of a King of the Hill episode (cartoon) I saw a couple days ago oddly enough. An extremem Christian woman was arguing against Halloween.

I think that just relaxing and enjoying the sense of adventure that such a story offers (yea I kinda liked it) should be welcome.

For any non-Americans, in Boston, there were a series of burnings in the 1600/1700's of people accused to be witches (one was crushed by stones). I have been to the site up there were a museum rests today...kinda interesting. In all likelihood, most of them probably weren't even witches. Perhaps some of that attitude, however, is still mixed into the American culture (obviously not in such an extreme form.

Well, just posting some thoughts...interesting subject.

Well since US country is sensitive when it comes to anything religious or pagan, it's no wonder why parents rave about it. Besides, witches are a figment of extreme christian beliefs (pagans are actually just non-Christians, so I'm a pagan! Woo!). And this was a while ago, so it's a wonder it carried on this far. What I want to know is why they get so sensitive about witches and warlocks, but not about humans dying in a sad and funny way in Mars Attacks (even though humans win in the end). I mean that presidential dog was even killed off. :) Power to the humans!

:D

Harry Potter an accurate portrait of Wicca/Paganism/Modern Witchcraft? ROFLMAO!!

In a word: No.

Not unless you view the stories of King Arthur, the Black Cauldron, and about a ton of other stories as being a portayal thereof. Although we in America (Yes, I'm American too) tend to think we're above the lower classes in relation to superstition and ignorance, this whole fiasco involving the HP series proves otherwise.

BTW, I know some Christians who believe Halloween is a sin, and a couple of good friends of mine would not let thier two daughters watch the new HP movie.

what are these books and where are they, so i can write the local school district and make sure they are removed from my childs reading list.and i think mars attacks sucked ;Dmy sons grand father bought him the HP movie, otherwise he wouldnt have it ;D. Sorry hate me if u must but i want to wait untill my kids get older before i start allowing the American Media/Movie Association filling their head with usless stuff as such. Sorry but im the type that only aloows certin programs and tv to be watched and even then their time is monitored. So yeah i sat and watched it with him (now a days u have to make sure what they are watching is appropiate). I am surprised at certin company's allowing curssing in thier movies and programs and still think they are ok for kids. but back to topic the movie wasnt that bad, but what some ppl may not realize is when they see stuff like that they will immitate it, so yes when i saw him trying to cast a spell of levitaion on me becasue he didnt want to listen to what his mother and I were saying I took the movie for a while. I dont want them growing up think its real ya know. ;D

Censorship is bad. It shields kids from the evils of the world. But it also shields them from the truth of the world. The reason he thought it was real was becouse you let him. You alowed him to watch that movie. IF you were as shelterd as we was he wouldnt belive it was real. Thats the thing about censership. When they do go into the real world out of a shleterd little box. Evrething like drugs, sex ect.. Is sudenly going to be right at there fingertips, And there going to want to try it all and as fast as they can. I have seen it happen sometimes it even includs violence. Thats why you have to show it to them when there young so they get used to it and acecpt it as either real or not real. IE the levitation thing. The reason he did that was becouse he was unaware that it is fiction becouse of him living in a censord world. I have not been censored from the day i was 3 on. I know harry potter is fake i know what drugs can do to people from T.V and movies that you have surely censored your children from. I know what violence is and the hurt it can cause becouse I have seen it. If you want someone to know about good they have to know about evil if you someone to know about evil they have to know about evil. The Truth is a doubel edged blade its better to teach them about both edges before tossing the blade to them. For surely they will cut themselves.Wouldnt some of these books include dune,LOTR,And other classice books mentioned by lord_J? What about hancel and gretil? would you let them read that? What about the most violent book ever writtien?(this is sure to have large wiplash effect) The bibel. Think about it. You got it all. Sex,Alcohal,Stonings,Crusifictions,Wars,Plauges ect...if you censor anything Dont make it HP,Or video games or music.Make it thee news.

Nav supports the witch burnings still....hehe. Good quote though.

Oh yea, and to whoever, how did you end up talking about mars attacks....you have serious attention issues ;D (only playin with you).

oh yeah he's also 4 so those books wouldnt be on his list anytime soon :P i thougt u meant there was an arry of childrens books... and at his age I think he has a little more trouble understaning what real and whats not that the age of the kids the movie was intended for...if its sheltering to sit down and watch what ur kids are wathcing then yep they can be called sheltered. I feel sorry for the kids whos parents dont care what they are watching. Im not saying Im trying to hide stuff, I am just waiting for the right age for things. like i said hes four. some things he wont understand, right now hes just asked us about death and why batteries cant be changed to make em un dead. If he was 10 he could grasp Harry Potter better and would know its fake. You've got 10 years on the kid of couse ur gonna know its fake... ::) and ur right ive censord movies about drugs & sex from him, again hes four... were u watching 'Sex in the City' at 3? (i know it wasnt out then but the equal of it since you werent censored since age 3). When he is ur age (13 or what ever i cant remeber) he'll know of these things u speak of... but he will learn them in an appropate manner not thru the eyes of hollywood. btw- dont assume you know how, and dont try to tell me how to raise children. once ur testies drop and u can have kids, and do have kids then you may rethink the whole issue... if not i feel for ur kids.

U said kids. Not "Kid" and you never specifed there ages. Its kinda difference between a 4 year old and a 9 year old. By 3 I ment they wouldnt censor things as in cartoons ect.. ect that most other parents in the area did, and dont question my maturity from your posts i have read you act like a 13 year old, I wouldnt want a 13 year old raiseing a family ;)....... But i dont want this to turn into a flame war so I will forgive you.

Well Nav that verse had to do with the hebrew nation under God's rule. We are not under God's rule as americans. We dont follow the hebrew law because christ came to fulfill the law. we dont do that stuff anymore. It was needed in ancient isreal though. there couldnt be any crap infesting isreal. that includes other religions. In america though we live in a christian time when christ has already come. There are many types of occult activities that can be seen in the venue of "witchcraft". Harry potter is just a dumb couple of books. They can be compared with wizard of oz in that type of innocence. Wizard of oz is a lot better though! My 24 year old brother is reading harry potter books and loves them. I tell him he is a freak.lol oh well:) And ordos... whats up with you and the wiccan religion? you have posted about it 2 times before. YOu say you are a christian. are you one of those new age types?lol if you know what I mean the bible is well... kinda against having other faith systems incorperated with christ? lol or you are just being corny idealistic. either one.lol NOT A FLAME BUT TRUE. my first caps lock usage on a website in forever!

and dont question my maturity

i am not questioning ur maturity ::) I think i know exactly where it is ;D (we were all 13 at one time, so u too are forgiven... just dont let it happen again ;D j/k) and yes not all of my post are mature as they should be, even nav gets under my skin ::)

btw- j/k is just kidding for thase that dont know ~ really hoping this doest turn into flames ;D

but i think I really got of topic and my answer is no I dont think HP to be an accurate rendetion of withchcraft and what not, the movie was ok for an appropaite age group, the books i havent ventured into yet... my kids are happy with 'Cliford the Big Red Dog' right now ;D so i cannot comment on the books of HP.

just incase ppl are wondering their ages are 4 , 1 &1/2, and one on way ;D

Dang DJ, you've been busy ;DI think if you've got questions about the Wiccan belief system or Satanism (which is a form of extreme Christianity in my views...) or any other religion, for God(s) sake(s), RESEARCH IT! Trust me, God won't strike you dead ;) .Hehe, talk about maturity, I saw my first hardcore porn magazine when I was five, and watched "Porky's" around the same time. I agree with you about LOTR etc, but Dune and LOTR are for the higher age groups, I read "The Black Cauldron" when I was, like, 8 or 9, Lloyd Alexander is a good author.Of course, that's not mentioning how interested I was in ancient Roman and Greek Mythologies as early as 6 and 7 when I first started to read. Note that a lot of Paganism is based on the gods and godesses of Greek Mythology.

the people who bitch about harry potter bitch about pokemon and think crystals are gateways to hell! so I say they should not bother with the books and just stick to making their kids watch bibleman(it does exist www.bibleman.com and is funny as hell in the super corny way)

I went to a christian school...I think veggie tales sounds familiar, and that scares me ;D

Sex and the City huh DJ :) I was watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre around when I was like 8...I turned out just fine....or did I? ;D

Nav, that Exodus verse is a famous mistranslation... and you'll only find it in the KJV Bible. Why? Because poor ol' King James was mortally afraid of witches! What the verse SHOULD say is:

"You shall not suffer an evil doer to live among you."

Ok, on the topic of Harry Potter now:

HP has about as much to do with Wicca as Dune has to do with Islam. :) Anyone going into Wicca after reading HP is in for a serious shock... You know: Spells aren't real OMG! :O

i cant understand satan worshippers afterall what could they possibly be hoping to get by worshipping

1 a being of supposedly complete evil

2 something which most likely doesnt exist and is in fact an anthropomorphism of the malice in ppls' hearts.

Then again i dont understand wiccanism beyond my perception that wiccans are largely ppl who simply are turning to something more extreme and radical to try and take control of their lives. Either that or they hope to gain some sort of power by it.

But as for harry potter it is really completely innocent. I think this bussiness about it containing witchcraft propaganda is absurd especially considering the author (I think a single mother with very little money is unlikely to write a book which might be percieved as contraversial.

I know what u mean.. stupid eh?, why the hell would anyone support a painful death when u can also have a nice one.... anyway... perhaps they hope to be satans helpers :)

and altough i don't read harry potter (no realy not) my sister does and I know that it's completely innocent... putting myself a tie on is even more violent.
