I don't know about this for sure, but why would a program that gets it's pay from ads and spyware when it lets you turn them off? That just seems idiotic.

And Desert, on KaZaa, there is a function called "Search for more users to download from" or something like that, it helps tremendously because it searches for more people to download from, and the more users downloading from - the faster it is.

Just get kazaalite. It's still alive and available at www.kazaalite.com . If you can't download it there for some reason, just download it from the attatchment on this post. Just remember to have winzip installed, and to read the TOS agreement.

Please don't attach downloads like that. The purpose of attachments is to share files that aren't available elsewhere like mods or screenshots not programs.

Well, the problem is that the kazaalite site crashes on and off repeatedly... I figured it may be easier to do it this way if you didn't mind me using your site as an FTP :P

You could also have posted the downoad link for KaZaA lite from KaZaA itself.

And I think the Uni of Utrecht has a nice version on it's server to somewhere ;)

OKay, announcment.

Sice you people are so worried about SpyWare, I give you the following info from me.

The spyware you can't remove without the program not working is Cydoor

You can remove all else

Since you are so worried about it, I pulled out my trust little Hex Editor

Attached is a dll file

follow these steps

Run Ad-aware, and remove all spyware, including Cydoor

Put this .dll into the following directorys

C:Program FilesKazaa - or whatever yours is

C:WindowsSystem

C:WindowsSystem32

overwrite if necassery, make back-ups if you don't trust me :'(

This should now let kazaa run without spyware, if it doesn't work, hey, it's not professional, don't look at me.

"The spyware you can't remove without the program not working is Cydoor

If only life would be that easy, oh I would defeniately like that.

There are a lot of "extra features" build into programms that allow 3th party's to get information from that programm or from your system via that programm.

From Cisco routers, to web-brouwsers to the worst . . operations systems themselfs. Both MS and UNIX. Remember 3 years ago, when they made a BIOS feature that allowed any Windows user the be checked on the number of his CPU and MOBO ? And there are much more that you can't remove, they are simply a part of the programm code itself.

Now a BIOS is capable of acessing the Net, it's in the chip itself how do you want to remove that ? And firewall's helps a lot, but when it's UNIX itself they suddenly don't do much.

BTW. Why does WinXP need all those lines of code ? Have you seen the estemated number ? It's hudge ! So even professional software uses a form of SpyWare. ::)

And the compleat version of whoswatchingme does his job better then ad-aware, when you are "totally paranoia" don't use freeware and software of "unknown" organisations / people, that's one of the most stupid things you can do !

Use Enterprice and corporate software, pay fore darn things. But I asshure you they work way better then any of the other programms.

[ Even thought of changing to Sun ? ]

OKay, then you admit that you can't get rid of spyware, its everywhere, and you have to live with it.

Every program you download tracks your IP, so therefore is spyware.

Gt over it.

But, Cydoor is the magor thing everyone is worried about, and, you can get rid of it.

Posted

Well, on Kazaalite, the Cydoor file they use on there is just a dummy file. It doesn't do anything except sit there and look like cydoor, so that's nothing to worry about ;)

No, I just dislike people who take the obvious targets, when they know that they can't get away from Spyware anywhere.

You read the terms and conditions, so, you live with it.

If you don't agree, don't install it, but let others make up their own minds.

Some don't make up their minds without first consulting the community if it is even worth it :-P

And you can get away from spyware on your computer...there's a little plug in the back of your computer, pull it :D

Posted

Well, you pull one little pug, and your mouse won't work.

etc

If you really want to get away from spyware that bad, then, sure, go ahead and remove your internet connection. Ignore security cameras in shops, as the monitor what is sold, just like spyware.

I just hope you know, (to anyone who downloads stuff from Kazaa regularly) that some software that you can get in there has software called 'Spyware'. This Spyware is covertly downloaded to your PC when you download the host program, and will send information to the creator of the program (usually a corporation) which logs which sites you go to. This is then used to target the user with specific advertising. e.g. if the program found you visited lots of sports sites, then advertisements for sports would show up quite often for you.

Now I don't want to tell anyone what to do with their PCs, I'd say you should download from there with caution. I found all this stuff out by reading about it in the newspaper in the computer section. I'm not gullible, but I don't think they would tell us all of that if it was all a load of crap!!

Just letting you guys know... ;D

Yes, this is what this entire arguement is about.

I am aware of Spyware, and, I hate it, but, I want all the free things. Most free things get their money from adverts, so, unless spyware gives you more correct adverts to your liking.
