With a machine, usually. Less effort, less personal that way. And it's supposed to be less mess, but in reality there can be quite a bit of splatter.

Think of it this way. It's the difference between phyiscally restraining a frantic animal, listening to its plaintive cries for help all the while, holding it still and feeling its heart beat fearfully beneath your hands, taking the knife in your hand and raising it high, watching the ignorant terror mount in the eyes of a helpless baby creature, and then plunging the blade down into warm, succulent flesh... and pressing a button to do it all for you.

See? Much less personal.

Which is true, but it is possible to live on plants (or more accurately, non-animals) and still get a proper diet. You just need to find protein elsewhere, like in quorn. It requires careful observation though.

I have vegetarian friends who check websites to ensure that they don't eat animal products. That's not just meat, but extracts of meat or even non-meat products that harm animals in some way. Personally I think it's too much work, and enjoy my steak.
