Things like dust smears and well technechally all other visual effects are done by emmiters, which are not park of the infantry model. If they were, it would look weird ;)

Hi and welcome to the BFD update! We are going to start doing updates here again, they will be monthly updates of what we have been doing.

Wciow has yet again been hard at work modeling and skinning our Ordos AA trooper. The Ordos rocket infantry is very good at shooting down air units and does ok damage against vehicles.

I have been busy finishing our infantry only map, Sand Trap. It will most likely get some changes to it, but check it out!

Wciow has been busy once again modeling and skinning our infantry. This time he has made us the Ordos Engineer.

The Engineer will be equipped with a pistol, repair tool and enough C4 to bring down a building. The repair will repair buildings and maybe units (not decided yet) and will also be able to take over buildings, so get ready to engi rush those subhouses at the start!

LR01 has started the intirirors for the Ordos barracks. Hes started with the cloning vats, due to the Ordos cloning soldiers because its cheaper. These will be spawn points inside the barrack and maybe other buildings for the Ordos.

Wciow has made us yet another infantry, this time its the Atreides Rifleman.

The Atreides rifleman is the basic infantry for the Atriesdes, armed with a machine gun, pistol and C4, hes ready to face anything the sands throw him... and his religious beliefs in the Duke help too.

Hello and welcome to a Battle for Dune update. We have alot to show you!

|--------[Atreides Infantry]---------|

Wciow has made us two models this time. The Atreides rifle man and the Atreides Engineer.

The Atreides rifle man is the basic unit for the Atreides. He is armed with a standard machine gun, pistol and C4. He is good against other infantry but not the best but goot for a quick starter rush against the harvy.

The Atreides Engineer is the repair unit for buildings and infantry. He is equipped with a repair tool, pistol and lots of C4. He can repair buildings and infantry aswell as take over buildings such as subhouses.

|--------[sandworm]---------|

The Sandworm by LR01.

As everyone knows the Sand Worm is one of the key features of the game. Seeing as it is on the front of Emperor: Battle for Dune and in most art of the game and the maker of Spice. This week we are going to go over how it will work and what it does.

The Worm will be set up with a random spawn script, meaning that it will pop up out of the sand at random points. If you are caught in the Sand Worm as it spawns you and your vehicle (if in one) will be "eaten" and you will spawn back at your base. It can also just go along the sand a eat anything in its way. We will most likely add a priority script to it, so it will target slower vehicles.

|--------[Harkonnen Flame Tank]---------|

Fluffy-Opossum has modeled the Harkonnen Flame Tank.

The Flame Tank carries two heavy side-mounted flame-throwers. This allows it to engage two enemies at once, or focus both beams forward onto one opponent. These weapons are highly effective against infantry. The flame-throwers are comparatively short ranged, but have a high fire rate. They are slightly slower then the Assault Tank.

|--------[Harkonnen Missile Tank]---------|

Fluffy-Opossum has also modeled the Harkonnen Missle Tank.

The Missile Tank is lightly armored by Harkonnen standards and stands off from the main fighting. It has very long-ranged guided rockets, which it fires in salvoes of eight. It then takes a long time to reload and retrain the firing tubes. Due to the weight of the rockets, the vehicle is quite slow despite its light armor.

|--------[Carryall]---------|

LR01 has been busy making our Carryall. The Carryall is what transports the Harvister from the Refinary to the Spice.

The Carryall is used to ferry Harvesters around the map. They do this automatically with a computer controlled piloting system, and thus never need to be given orders. It has medium armor and no offensive capabilities.

|--------[Guild Maker]---------|

Bullet has modeled us the Guild's Maker.

Makers are the Guild's infantry. They are second stage navigators equipped with a power weapon, which allows them to inflict heavy damage. This ability makes up for their poor maneuverability as they cannot move into infantry rock, and turn laboriously. Makers, for reasons unknown, are rarely if ever a target for Sandworms, Scientists have guessed that it may be due to their Spice mutation, but have no solid proof of that fact.

LR01 has been busting out models once again but this time with our Spice Harvester.

The Harvester is based at the refinery, but ventures out onto the sands to collect Spice.

|--------[Ordos Pop-up Turret]---------|

Fluffy-Opossum has been hard at work making our Ordos Popup Turret.

The Pop-up Turret has a longer range than the Gas Turret, and fires armor piercing bullets from it's machine gun, which makes it much more effective against vehicles. When not firing on a target, the Pop-up Turret rests in the ground, thus making it less susceptible to damage. When an enemy unit gets within range, it extends out of the ground to fire upon the target.

-FW-Wolf has been working on a map for Battle for Dune. BFD_Mesa is a remake of the C&C Renegade map C&C_Mesa but changed to fit with the gameplay.

Fluffy-Opossum has yet again been busy modeling, this time he has modeled for us the Ordos Refinery.

The Refinery is the basis of all Spice production on Dune. After collecting Spice, your Harvesters unload it into the Refinery. From there it is converted into Solaris. You must keep a steady flow of incoming Spice in order to have enough money to purchase new buildings or units. For each Refinery built, you will receive one Harvester & Carryall.

LR01 has managed to find some time with all of his school work to model the Harkonnen Flame Turret.

This building defends your base by shooting out deadly bursts of flame. The flame ignores shields, so it is effective against vehicles and infantry alike.

I have started on the third Battle for Dune map called Aprit Chad. This is a remake of the Emperor: Battle for Dune 1v1 map Aprit Chad.

|--------[Atreides APC]---------|

LR01 has some time to do a lot more modeling for us, he has started this off by modeling the Atreides APC.

The Atreides APC is designed to carry infantry safely around the battlefield. It has medium armor and speed and carries a turret-mounted 30mm cannon, which is adequate against both infantry and armored vehicles. When not moving it has the the ability to camouflage itself. To move units into the APC, select them and click on the APC. To deploy the units double-click on the APC.

Can't you tweak the civilian side to become the third side? Jonwil is pretty busy with APB and some other projects obviously, but Saberhawk might have some time on his hands, if you think you are man enough for him.

Well we did have reborn working on it untill he couldn't code some of it and needed Oblivion's help (i think) and now that he has taken over C&C Reborn with Dark... He hardly has anytime. But i will have a chat with Saberhawk about it (he will probs say no) And i know jonwil is very busy with 4.0 and APB.

[h]Infantry[/h]

Atreides

Light Infantry

Description

The light infantry is the core of the Atreides infantry. They are fairly quick, lightly armoured and have a good range. They carry a light machine gun, a pistol and a C4 explosive. You will spawn as this character, and will most likely be your last line of defence when your barracks is down. They are also good against other types of infantry.

How to use

Light infantry are best at doing a quick first rush before first dump of Spice gets to the refinary. if you have a few higher classed infantry that are destroying your vehichles or base, you can easily gang up on them and take them out due to the Atreides machine gun accruacy.

Scout

Description

The Scout is the fastest infantry on field, he can cover large amounts of ground in seconds. He is equipped with a pistol and binoculars (what more does a cheap scout need?). The Scout is also stealthed so he can survey the field without any hassel, and for that reason he does not have any C4. His binoculars are very good when it comes to spotting incoming enemies and can also see stealthed units.

How to use

The scout is good for getting out there just after the first dump so you can scout for incoming rushing or what the enemy are up to. He is also great for spotting stealthed fremen, House Ix Infiltrator or even a captured Atreides APC.

Sniper

Description

The Atreides sniper is very good at taking infantry, even more so in the open Dune terrain. Armed with a pistol, sniper rifle and C4 he is ready for anything! Due to such open terrain he will kill a standard infantry in 3-4 body shots or 2-3 headshots (not fully decided yet). The Atreides are the only main house to have a sniper, the only other subhouse to are the Fremen.

How to use

The sniper is good to use on a high place, such as a base  high ground, sniper advantage point or a decent dune. His range allows you to even just stand in a corner or near the middle of a field with enough time to fall back. If you are cought off guard you always have your pistol to fall back on but its not a main choice of attack. Another good way to use the sniper is with a APC so you can move about fast and unseen.

Kindjal Infantry

Description

The Kindjal Infantry is the rocket soldier of the Atreides army, very good against all vehicles. The Kindjal carries a pistol, C4 and a deployable rocket launcher. The Kindjal is a slow moving class due to carrying around such a large rocket launcher, but has a good pistol to use while moving about. While deployed he will be able to fire tracking rockets at any vehicle that comes into range and do a fair amount of damage to them, but headshots will not count while in this mode. As the name Kindjal suggests, he should have a some sort of sword but this has not been fully decided due to how bad melee weapons are on the W3D engine.

How to use

The best way to use the Kindjal is to find some good infantry cover and try to stay out of sniper fire. In the cover you can move about in a limited space but be fairly covered from most sides, allowing you focus your fire on enemy vehicles from that one point. Stay close to different types of cover is another good idea due to being picked off because of your speed and combat effectiveness while moblie. The Kindjal is a great defencive unit when your base is under attacked, there are a lot of buildings in your base to fire from.

Engineer

Description

The Engineer is the main base blowing, building repairing, mine laying infantry. He is the base form of defence when it comes to it, repairing is a major part of gameplay. If you do not repair your base will die and the game will be over very quickly, simple as and its a great way of getting points and money. He is armed with 2 remote c4, 2 timed c4 and some mines for good measure. At the moment he is what will be repairing your infantry and vehicles aswell.

How to use

The best way to use your Engineer is to repair your base. Inside of the buildings and find the weakpoint/MCT (not decided yet either). You can lay mines inside your base and buildings as a form of defence to keep our tanks or infantry. His C4 is very good at taking out large structures at its weakest part, his C4 is handy against vehicles aswell. A good tactic is to have a APC rush with a few engineers in with some other units to try and take out a building, they are also really useful for healthing your vehicles and infantry.

Harkonnen

Scout

Description

Light Infantry

Description

These troops are lightly armoured and nimble. Armed with a chain gun, pistol and timed C4 they are the standard infantry got the Harkonnen. Harded infantry from Giedi Prime, a industral waste land where they are only taken by power and strength. Where their armies ranks are raised by lower ranks killing their officers and captains.

How to use

The Harkonnen light infatry are best at close range due to their chain guns which just spray and pray, but are powerful, but can't really hit anything at a far range. Using your tanks to trap other infantry into infantry cover so you can move in and spray them to death.

Rocket Trooper

Description

The Rocket Trooper is very affective against vehicles and air craft, and fairly good against infantry. They are slow moving units having to carry around a large rocket launcher, but their rockets aren't as strong as the Atreides rockets but are able to move and shoot unlike the Atreides. They are you're best form of anti air aswell.

How to use

The rocket trooper is best for a tank ambuse in the middle of the dunes, using rock cover or just a dune itself to cover yourself from fire you can make short work of them. They are also great for hidding in your base and takig out incoming rushes and air attacks. They are also very good at slowing down your enemies money intake by killing their carryalls for their harvesters.

Flame-Thrower Infantry

Description

The Flame-Thrower Infantry is armed with a flamethrower, pistol and timed C4. He is very affective against all kinds of infantry and does some desent damage against tanks. He is a slow moving infantry due to having heavy gas tanks on his back so he has plently of gas to burn his enemies with. When hes dies, his gas tanks explode and might kill near by allies and enemies.

How to use

He is very much like the Harkonnenlight infantry, great at close range, in a tunnel or even for rushing in after enemies that have just entered your building(s), the best way to clear them out is with your flamerthrower. It has burning affect aswell, so after you're clip is dry, pull your pistol and finish them off.

Ordos

Scout

Description

Chemical Trooper

Description

The Chemical Trooper is the basic infantry for the Ordos. Carrying a Chemical sprayer, pistol and timed C4, he is ready for anything the other Houses throw at him. He is slow though, due to having two gas tanks on his back and carrying around the large, heavy sprayer. They have the same range as the Harkonnen and Atreides light infantry, but do not do as much damage on contact, but leave a lasting damaging effect.

How to use

Due to his range and slowness, the chemical trooper is base used in a small space and good for hiding around corners with. His chemical sprayer is good against tanks, so if your down to your second to last building and no way of buying a higher class unit, bring down a tank with a group of these with no problem. They are best used to rush in a APC so they can enter buildings and start casuing havoc.

AA Trooper

Description

Much like the Harkonnen Trooper, the Ordos AA Trooper can mover and shoot his rockets with ease. Carrying a rocket launcher, pistol and timed C4 he can pretty much take care of himself when out in the sands of Arrakis. He is also very effective against all types of armour but is weak against infantry.

How to use

Best form of air defence, the AA Trooper uses fast tracking missles to hit air enemies hard. A good cover, fire, cover unit against tanks out in the open desert he should have no major problems with it comes to fighting vehichles when in rock cover. He also has some amount of splash damage, so if you're pistol skills aren't too good... Just shoot at their feet.

Mortar Infantry

Description

The Ordos Mortar is a anti infantry and anti tank unit, armed with a pistol, mortar and timed C4. He is a fairly fast at moving about due to his light mortar but is only armed with a pistol and timed C4 while in this mode. When deployed he is able to take down groups of infantry and maybe the odd tank from full health to nothing.

How to use

He is best used in cover or on a cliff edge, so he can just about see the enemy and shell them from a safe place. Moving and deploying fast is the key when it comes to this guy, so duck, deploy, shoot and move is what he is best for if your caught off guard out in the open. Also, a good way of hard hitting a tank is to stay hidden on a cliff near to entrances and just keep on it.

Saboteur

Description

The Saboteur is a suicide bomber. He runs up to an enemy unit or buildings and blows himself up! Carrying a pistol and a lot of C4, he is set to blow up anything. He runs at a fairly fast speed and isn't that well armoured.

How to use

The Saboteur is a great sneeking unit, using his speed and the use of cover you can get into a undefended base with ease. By having his C4 selected you just have to go next to your target and click your left mouse button. He is good for mixed late game APC rushes as a dead run or after the first or second dump and your feeling lucky.

Now we have had a textured version of this before, but now we have our newer version almsot 100% textured and ready! LR01 has been very busy texturing in internals of our Ordos barracks and i think hes done a great job!

Looking good. The textures are great. I had a bit of difficulty telling the Laser Tank from the APC in the PT icons, especially when the APC looks a little flat to be a personnel carrier to me.

How would you aim the mortar? Would the crosshair determine where the mortar shell hits, or do you you have to aim it like Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, ie using scale and angle?

Sorry about being inactive, don't worry the mod isn't dead we have just been really busy.

Heres our latest mega update!

|-------[Rocket Launcher]-------|

Venom775 Has been hard at working modelling our Atreides rocket launcher, hes also textured it too.

The Atreides rocket launcher has to deploy to fire, but gives it stronger and faster firepower compared to its Ordos and Harkonnen counterparts.

|-------[Rocket Backpack]-------|

Venom775 has also modelled us up the Atreides Rocket Trooper's backpack, this model is also textured and both look amazing.

|-------[Dust Scout]-------|

Fluffy-Opossum has been busy modelling the Ordos Dust Scout.

This small walker is a fast anti infantry vehicle, armed with a top mounted machine gun, its ready for any infantry that comes its way!

|-------[Assault Tank]-------|

Venom775 has finished texturing the Harkonnen Assault Tank and i think he has done a damn good job of it!

Hes also made us aload of camo textures aswell!

|-------[inkvine Catapult]-------|

Venom775 has been busy once again, this time texturing our Inkvine Catapult.

Once again he has managed to make an awesome model and texture, here it is!

|-------[Flame Tank]-------|

Now, Fluffy-Opossum made the Harkonnen Flame Tank awhile back. I gave it to Venom to texture but before he did, he cleaned the model up and added a lot more detail to it.

|-------[bFD_Da'Ja_Sada]-------|

Da'Ja Sada is a 1v1 Emperor: Battle for Dune map and has been remade for Battle for Dune. This map will have the two great houses, Harkonnen and Atreides!

LR01 has been busy texturing up our Ordos Refinery and its coming along great!

Now, after a lot of talk and feed comments, we felt that the mongoose needed a remodel. So LR01 has complete remodelled the Atreides Mongoose. Hope you guys like it!
