Dunenewt
Get the two base defences to attack each other?Just out of interest, will the infantry of one House be able to man the vehicles of another House?
cnc95fan
Super Weapons will probably work with a SCUD Storm (a Renegade -> Generals mod) style. Basically, you purchase the super weapon, a vehicle spawns, you hop into the vehicle and drive it into the enemy base, it is invulnerable to attack. You then shoot with the super weapon and it causes the damage to happen.
Dunenewt
Can you not just do it the way the Ion Cannon Beacon worked before? I don't like the sound of that style, as what happens to the vehicle and the driver once it has fired the super weapon? Although perhaps the Harkonnens could have something similar to the Demolition Truck in RA2.
TeamWolf
What he ment by veh was, something you "drive" but your not inside, its like the mouse in an RTS game, and then you just hover over the target and attack it with the superweapon. Dunenewt
So you control that unit but you're not inside it, then you put it in the enemy base, then when you destroy it, the explosion is the superweapon?
cnc95fan
Exaclty.
Dunenewt
Can you not just place a beacon, and when placed, that beacon will explode after 30 seconds?
cnc95fan
Well there's nothing that stops us from doing that. But there's a large possibility that you will/can be1) Killed while transporting the beacon2) Killed and the becaon be disarmed3) Die with the beacon exploding, provided you are an expencive charachter
Dunenewt
Well, reduce the cost of the beacon accordingly? Or can't you just set it so the beacon automatically spawns in a set position in the enemy base, and explodes?
cnc95fan
If we reduced the cost of the beacon, and the enemy base defences were destoryed, then all hell would break loose. There is another option that the computer randomly selects where the superweapon is fired (provided there were enemies there) and used its abilitys accordingly. Dunenewt
I like that idea, because that's what the computer did when you fired the Death Hand in Dune II.
Edric O
Beacons wouldn't work well for the Hawk Strike at all, given that it only affects units, and enemy units could just run out of range after the beacon is placed. Unless you made it so that the Hawk Strike deploys one or two seconds after you place the beacon.
TeamWolf
Tbh, a beacon would kind of kill the whole point of a hawk strike, its ment to be placed before your troops go in, no placed by a troop lol
Vanguard3000
Maybe you could "paint" and area with a targeting laser. That way, you'd have the challenge of getting a soldier close to the target, without actually having to be there to place the beacon. Essentially, you could snipe your target area from afar. TeamWolf
Well i'm not too sure about beacons tbh, because we will be having stealth units and such, so would be abit lame, and bases will be abit open (like E:BFD. But its something to think about.
Dunenewt
Could you perhaps have a guided missiles in the game?
cnc95fan
That's true. I think if the server randomly selected a target (obviosuly prioritys would be in the scripting) it would symbolise that presence of a commander watching over. Also, for example, if you're an Atriedes soilder and you see a empty Harkonnen Assault Tank, you can hop in it. =]
Dunenewt
Ah excellent, that sounds good to me. Will you have Sonic Tanks? How will the Deviator work?
ordos75
Will other houses/factions be include in game such as smugglers, and guild? -Just wondering
cnc95fan
Most likely. As we have said in previous posts though, Renegade does have limitations, so we will do our best.
Edric O
How will the Deviator work?I think a deviator projectile should instantly kill the driver of a vehicle upon hitting that vehicle (and have no effect on infantry). Killing the driver would render the vehicle immobile and allow someone from your side to hop in and take it over. It's not exactly the same as the normal deviation effect, but it's close enough. Vanguard3000
Spongebob would totally be useful in the Arrakeen desert. He should be wearing a stillsuit, though. Will you be implementing a ranking/veterancy system into the game?
cnc95fan
Hell yes. That's thanks to one of the cool features of scripts.dll. And will be quite easy to implement.
Dunenewt
Could you do it in the style of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory?
