On the subject of the baseball bat, are you sure it's not just an optical illusion due to perspective? The background to the "standing bat" is rather brown and uniform, after all.

Perhaps the guy had a bat with some kind of weight in the end to use for batting, but it landed in a coincidental way so that gravity brough the weight down that way?  ???

I don't know about baseball (and thus baseball bats) but I'll go with that.

Note that when the thing was just about to settle totally on the ground, it suddenly kicked itself back up. That means it had some left over energy in rotational momentum. A non-weighted bat would have flung all the way and not stopped so abruptly standing up.
