MrFlibble
The next thing they should do is release Dune 2 source code ;D
stefanhendriks
Bah nothing special. They just made ISO's and give you a crappy doc file to install the damn thing.I was expecting:- true windows xp support- true lan support again (and internet) :'( :-
deathand999
that ads supported thing means they will install softwares on the pc that will take effect even when the game is off? or its like the in game stuff like high way tampa in bf2
MrFlibble
I was expecting:- true windows xp support- true lan support again (and internet)Yeah, and also better AI, skirmish option, larger maps (like in Sole Survivor)... I don't think we'll ever see that... from EA at least.
Trasher64
C&C C&C and C&C... always C&C. Ok, the first C&C was good, but! They should F****** realise that Dune series is 10 times better than C&C. Crappy EA. :-X
MrFlibble
You know, I actually think of Westwodds RTSs, both C&C and Dune, as a whole, a single series (with the seb-series: Dune, Tiberian and Red Alert).EA will never realise anything other than what their marketing strategists will come up with. Mostly because it was not them who actually did any of the Dune or C&C games :P
gunner154
The very fact that you need to change your compatibility options to install tells you what kind of program you're getting. Without any effort to improve the game, it doesn't really make the cut.
MrFlibble
Well, the guys decided not to bother at all. This is another no-cost move to attract more attention to their new product(s) in the wake of an upcoming add-on to C&C3.And I can't get off the feeling they've used C&C for profit and now are simply throwing it away as it has depleted its marketing potential. gunner154
And that doesn't do justice to the original game. You're getting a whole lot of people who have not played it (since it is supposed to appeal to those totally new to C&C) into the fray, and these people are probably not going to appreciate the game due to its dated graphics. That's especially so if they're already RTS-lovers (but not lovers of the classic C&C). If they're already RTS-lovers, the primitive mode of play and relatively dull missions will not excite them.No. No.
MrFlibble
Well, I believe people who are interested in the history of the game/genre will play C&C no matter what. Those who think that a game is worthless because of dated graphics, AI or whatnot, are lacking good taste, to say the least.
gunner154
Believe me, there are people who are turned off by the idea of playing the classic Prince Of Persia because it's not 3D, and because it's so old, without realising the impact it had on the gaming world. Ah well.
MrFlibble
I sure know such people exist (sadly), but IMHO they simply do not deserve our attention. They may be not hopeless, but I'm not up to teaching the history of world's computer gaming right now ;) ;D
gunner154
Neither am I, but when EA gives people a chance to criticise the classics...
MrFlibble
Well, let's look at the bright side: C&C is now for free! Yay! ;DThey gotta release Covert Ops as well ::)
Aristeas
Honestly, for the most part, I'd rather be playing up do date games. The only exceptions being AoE2 and EBfD. AoE2, because it might be the best balanced game I've played and EBfD because I'm a Dunehead and this game has plenty of eyecandy for me. It isnt' that I don't appreciate what Dune 2, C & C, and Prince of Persia did for the genre...its just that I prefer updated games
Andrew
Last couple of weeks I have been playing BaK which was released in 1993.Some great games should be played no matter how old.
MrFlibble
Although this goes a bit off-topic, I'd say I prefer old games, not only because of their historical value, but also because they belong to the "good old days" and evoke nostalgic feelings :) ::) However, I still have the genre preferences, favoring RTS and FPS over other games. gunner154
I prefer old games too. And I either take RPG, RTS or just arcade-based stuff. Used to like FPS a lot but now... nay.

Andrew
What? Come again? Which Dune game are you talking about? Re-release of Dune2000?My question exactly. It made no sense.
MrFlibble
Logically speaking, EA has a tendency to take abandoned projects and revive them. First Tiberian Twilight (as Tiberian Wars), then Renegade 2 (GameSpot article about a new C&C FPS in development is here). Theoretically, they could do Dune Generations.
