You guys are so praising those who have good results. BUT what really is a good result? It is not the same for everybody. One achieving 10 A's may not be as proud of himself as one achieving very bad results. In fact what is the difference between these two types of ppl: one maybe is learning more than the other one but this is not necessarily true. The one achieving BAD RESULT which maybe

Ok, well, some suck and some don't.

Everone is happy receiving straight A's.

You may set a lower standard to kind of fool yourself to be happy about ppor grades, but this is not a smart thing to do.

I got the impression that he was saying that for those who might not be as smart as everyone else, getting lower grades might be good for them.  For example, someone who might be working as hard as they can, but only achieving C's, might get a B in the final exam and feel really pleased with themselves.  I think he was contrasting this with someone who gets straight A's.

Yes, but most people who really work hard get good grades.

Thats not true.  There are some people who just can't grasp things.

But, as you can see, people receive B's and are happy.

A and B are what I would call really good, A being more than expected.

Don't try to not understand, please.

Well I am comparing it to the Scottish system where all we have are A, B's and C's.  So B's are mid range.

Hasimir is right.

My point is that most people who get poor grades, do not pay sufficient attention during class, and skip homework.

"Cambridge ain't a cheap uni to go to..."

It costs the same (for English residents) wherever you go in the UK.

"Spell-checker is broken...must have a virus..."

There is a precedent. Where is that picture of the badly painted roadsign...?

Most who receive an A have worked hard for it.

Most who fail or get a very low grade have not worked hard enough.

Those who deserve congratulations are those who have worked hard and have learned; those whose abilities have improved (and hopefully their grades) should be congratulated, or consoled on bad luck if grades do not represent ability.

Funniest and embarasing thing happend to me at school today...

Well in the german 2 class that has 37 people in it...

I sat in the back near the counter, I have to share my desk with matt(friend of mine) Which means I have to put my stuff on the counter.

Well I was changing cd's on my cd player and set the one i was just playing on the counter, German Teacher(Herr Graves) Comes by and while talking to another student absent mindedly puts in a cd, put it on a track, He said we were to take out a piece of paper and write down what we could pick out from german 1.

He walked in his little office and closed the door..

The cd scanned for a second and the first thing we heard was..

"Its the group hotter then a erection that shows more effection, they wana ban us on capital hill cause its die mother fucker die mother fucker die..."(english NWA song)

He had put in my cd..

He couldnt hear it from his office and absently mindly did some work, while the other students just looked at each other like "wtf?

Herr graves came out about two minutes later to the chorus of..."Die mother fucker die mother fucker die."

Ran to the cd player and ejected the cd..

I didn't get in any trouble...What they get for putting 37 kids in a german room...

Thats hilarious!  My former German teacher was about to buy a new CD player becuase her's was 'broken': it only played the same track over and over again... Sadly, a student showed her how to turn off repeat mode..

i agree you have to work hard and study to achieves A's but some start from alower base and therefore achieving a B can be great to those who started out behind and an even bigger achivement than someone who got an A.

At my local primary school(where i happen to be a governor) we use the national standard bench marker tests at entry level and for SATs children within our school on average attain below average at yr6 SATs level and Average at YR12, This would appear at first sight to suggest that ours is a bad school with poor results/students/teachers and yet if you take into account that the vast majority of children entering the school score 2 points below the national average at entry level. Then you can see what as been achieved. Many schools which get above average results at both SATs levels often have children who entered at the average or above average baseline level. So the school while providing good results has not actually improved their pupils abilities. :-[

Oh for those none British people SATs = Standard Assessment Tasks.

I thought they were Standard Assessment Tests? Oh nevermind, I guess they changed the name to make them more friendlier... Its a bunch of bullshit if you ask me. SATs should be scrapped.

They're officially called neither, it's just they began in a form that was similar to other things called SATs, and the name stuck...

"So the school while providing good results has not actually improved their pupils abilities"

In some cases, but be aware that pupils coming in with good levels need to improve to reach the targets for the next key stage. The schools may not be teaching them beyond the expected development, but that's not to say the schools are not improving the abilities.

In America SAT stands for Scholastic Aptitude Test, but it seems like this is something completely different.
