Never heard of Atrac3 either.

As for the free MP3 thing, i've done it a couple times (with Altavista though; not through kazaa.); I mean, who hasn't?  But I can't see downloading whole albums.  In addition to being ethically wrong, it would be faster to just drive to the store than to download all that!  MP3s are huge, even on cable/DSL!

Ditto the Artac3 question for me. ;)

As for downloading songs online without paying for it, I feel it is bad and I tell others not to do it but I am a hypocrite and I don't practice what I preach and still download songs, off websites but not using KaZaA... :O

MP3 are better quality that Atrac3, but using Atrac3 which is a compressed form of MP3, you can store more music on a disc, especially at LP2, where its almost impossible to tell, unless you have like Superman ears or something, i think its encoded to about 160KBS there...

Downside, is that i dont think ipods or irivers would accept ATRAC3, its like a Sony thing only i think.

And yeah, downloading is not an honest thing to do

Well I prefer OGG to other formats. And as for downloading, I have a 20 gig MP3 player and only about 10% are downloaded, which is pretty good considering. : And I feel really bad every time I do download a song.

I'm with those who've never heard of Atrac, but I've always thought OGG wasn't as good quality as MP3.  OGG still has its uses, of course.

Downloading MP3s as a moral issue depends on the MP# you are downloading, doesn't it?  It may not be a moral thing to download mp3s of popular bands which should be purchased, but for smaller, underground bands, it can be their key to success.

yes super artac3 is a compressed form of mp3.

mp3 compresses audio files to 1/10 of original size

artac3plus compresses files up to 1/20 of originil size.

so basicy you could fit around 30 cds (cda format) on 1 artac3 plus cd(700mb.

and yes, it is only a sony thingy, but If I heard right, there are mp3 players that also play artac3 formats.

MP3 better, don't know the other one, never heard of it.

Morality? Well, I've only purchased one CD in my life, and received another one for Christmas.

Why pay $400 to make your perfect CD when you can do it for under $10?

(20 songs to put on one CD * 20 dollars a CD with the song on it you want = $400)

It is the industries fault that they got screwed. MP3 technology was out; Methods of payment to pay for downloading online songs/CDs were out. So why didn't they do it? They were stupid. They took like 6 years to actually do it, so I doubt millions of people were going to wait for the music industry to release music for pay on the internet. Or even to go to the Music store and give a person a list of songs you want, and they would burn it. (Like the commercial where they go through the drive-thru to get the music.)
