http://help.stargate.net/broadband/mtu_ping_test.shtml

;D

mine ended up being 1500...no wonder it wasn't helping me becuz this is the default for most modems...lol

dozy set his to 1454 and he said that he noticed a big difference...much faster

it's differerent for different computers

I get timout, i tried from 1530-1380 and i got a few defrag, and a lot of time out.

[ sort of a screenshot but then smaller. ..you can make it with alt-printscreen and then just past that in Paint ]

Actually, it's just printscreen  ;)

nope .. printscreen will give a print of the whole screen. . including windows bar .. desktop and other windows that are open. The option alt -printscreen will just give you the active window.

To give you an example.. . there are 2 screenshots of my current desktop.

One of the whole desktop with printscreen and one with just the Avant window open made with alt-printscreen.

printscreen

alt-printscreen

I used to think that to. . but when you need to make how-to-guides with corresponding screenshots you tend to use alt-printscreen a lot more then needing to cut about 50 screenshots for just one manual. . ;)

hehe, when I make how-to guides, I still cut my images to show very specific areas.

However, I can't argue with you that it might be very handy to have that alt + print screen function in mind :)

Holy ****, i tried it your way gob, and now everything i try above 300 gets " Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set"... what do i do? :'(

Posted

everything above 300?!  :O what kind of modem have you got? 14.4 or something?

I tried 1454, and that did jack sh*t. So i went to the mtu test, and it turned out that my "optimal" one was 1500. I put that in, and it was slow as hell.

I deleted the "MTU" value from the registry, and now it runs faster than it used to! lmao

ehh you two are probably confusing each other. 750 k, or more likely a 768 k connection is only a max of theoretically 96 kilobyte down.

So if you realy does have a 768 kilobit connection then you could never have downloaded faster than 96 kbyte/second, and he definately won't reach the 500 kbite/second :) . You'd need a 4 mbit line for that.

I got cable... 750k connection

I presumed that you have a 750kilobite connection. . therefor I wanted to know if you could download things with about 500kilobite without problems..
