I heard that if you use Kazaa you might risk getting a bill of about 10.000$ due to some reasons I am not aware of. I think it was some danish company which sendt those bills to different danish users and now throughout Europe too.

Rumor Ru"mor, n. [F. rumeur, L. rumor; cf. rumificare, rumitare to rumor, Skr. ru to cry.] [Written also rumour.]

2. A current story passing from one person to another, without any known authority for its truth; -- in this sense often personified.

-Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary, © 1996, 1998 MICRA, Inc.

I'm guessing that got started by the same person who sends out those "Hotmail r going bankrupt! Oh teh gno!" emails. ;)

Kazaa and other p2p programs are legal.

However, in some coutries, like the USA, you can be fined up to $250,000 for downlaoding a single song from it, because you are violating copyright regulations. If you're worried about it, check out your local laws regarding the rights of your nations music industry.

it is illegal to download from kazaa because it's the asportation of another person's work.

the problem is they can't get rid of the sites because most of them are on islands not a part of the U.S. and are in other countries. Although there are some companies making legal programs for downloading songs which is in a completely legal way. Such as Best buy is starting something called "Rhapsody" which charges you $10 a month for dl all the songs you want but you have to pay for all the songs you burn seperately i believe. Something like $1 per song.

Thankfully, in the US, Kazaa was made legal, no bill for me...

That's the irony of the internet. . .if the FBI can pick up Russians for violating internet law .. we can pick up US citisen for the same reason. . .

KaZaA isn't illegal as Mahdi mentioned, and will never be able to be so under the current laws. Breaking copyrights however is. But just as a knive can't be put to trial for murdering a person. .. .KaZaA can't be condemed illigal.

I know that our authorities don't care. and our laws say that people of an age under 18 cannot make agreements conserning money without the approval of the parents.

what is cool is that if a person under 18 sells his computer to a guy, and spends the money. then later claim to have the computer returned, he can have it without refunding the money ;D

the problem with all this is that even if it is illegal there are lawyers who can convince the jury that it was perfectly legal...

Kazaa is full of viri, worms and monitoring. If I don't think about something as really private sharing, then it is Kazaa. It became too widespread. Use WinMX, it is sure it will decay too after Kazaa's fall, but now it is best. By the way, I don't need to care about legal status. I download bytes, just some senseless data, which may then form into something, which LOOKS like someone's commercial music. But it is like when I make a model of MiG-29 and then provide it to uncommercial sharing. Do you think MAPO-MiG corporation or some creator of a flight simulator, where are MiG-29s too, can have something against it?

Although, Caid Ivik, you know that you download the bytes in the exact order to form that file(s) you wanted.

That is the illegal part...

and they are even looking for more hits. . .

I have IM'ed the link to you. . .as the site offers more then just legal programms from eDonkey2000 I am not shure if it fals within the rules of Fed2K.

If I would take music synthetiser and create a same music like someone else did, would that be illegal?

Yes. That's why cover bands have to pay the original bands.

not shure but thougth that any musical file in WAV format isn't illegal and can be exchanged freely without charge. . . including song from top50 charted numbers .. pretty wierd he . .

It can't be exchanged freely legally. Yo yourself can legally copy them from a CD to your computer as you ahve already purchased the music, but to give them to anyone ese is copyright infrignment. Just like all thsoe warnings at the beggining of videotapes.

I like the last trend in CD protection. They are blocking WAV system of tracks, so you can't hear them in computer. No matter that programs like CDex can easily extract them to MP3s in full grace...

that's certainly the case with any form of digital audio. You are allowed to make one copy of it. Although if you make a WAV file from it and place that on your server for anyone to download, you arn't in violation of any common laws. And although that's thrue on the internet, not shure if normal. . other forms of distribution follow the same guidlines. . or if a WAV file on a CD is illigal. . .
