  1. didnt u just leave our channel yesterday? you join existing network... for example mine is Dune2000 1.06, no password required
  2. Hey good job man, by any chance do you think you could fix the LAN patch to stop crashing while playing over hamachi?
  3. absolutely not, RC was the old way of playing, now we play on Hamachi, u can join my network there: Dune2000 1.06 no password needed
  4. Hey guys, thanks for props, I added some more multiplayer games as I got the chance to record them. I encourage more people to start playing, its fun!
  5. On easy, normal or hard? To get some inspiration, see my videos:
  6. So I updated my videos, added hard mode campaign, these are probably my last videos for awhile, as there is really nothing to record anymore, maybe when new players come to play.
  7. anyway, anyone understands what exactly the -f command does? i know that in game it makes the game go super fast (depending on the computer performance), back in the day of celeron 500mhz and even on athlon xp it was playable, but now not anymore (core 2 duo), all units dead in 10 seconds of game, refinery builds as fast as a trooper in normal game... i know it may also have something to do with vertical sync on/off (in openGL 2D video card settings) also i noticed it is not possible to turn on fraps recording while this option is on and dune is running
  8. This is actually useful, gonna use -M :) the -8 and -6 is setting for 8 or 16bit graphic
  9. If you need help testing, I have some free time, so I can help.
  10. The most played and respected maps back when Westwood servers were still online was Red Chasm for tournament and famous Habbanya Erg for 2v2's and 1v1's using 1 star handicap. Probably Most of the open XL maps are pretty good, but I like Habbanya Erg the most, because it is not too open and not too closed, which is also why it inevitably will be very favoured map in the future if there are still people to play Dune. However, back then people complained about the map being imbalanced. The top team had more spice and more space to play and build. On top of that starting in the middle was a pain in the ass due to narrow openings for spice in the beggining and being too close to oponents, which sometimes made me move the MCV to another spot despite the delay. Imagine you play a clan war and lose just because your team got bad spots. Because of all that I edited the map to try to eliminate the disadvantage factors: moved middle starting spot to TM, added more spice blooms for BL(bottom left) spot, made BL more open to make it easier to attack and defend as well as to prevent hiding in base tactics, added more space to build for BR spot and made TR starting spot to not have to move an MCV in order to deploy it. Link for map removed.
  11. Well looks like some people seem to think that 640x480 in 16bit is HD But for the rest of you, Corel allows to render it at high resolution while giving it a better visual look and it really does look different when you change to 1080 on Youtube, I would say it looks much better, but I guess it is a matter of opinion. MVI, I will post the separated videos soon.
  12. Well I could do that, but can you tell me - is better the HD version or the normal version? The normal one is smoother, HD one more visually appealing.
  13. Hi guys, I'm Shaokhan, most old players know me as griffin65. I have played this game since year 2000 with some time on and off. Because the official Westwood server is down, I played some games over Hamachi in last couple of months and recorded some games more or less successfully and I thought I would share what I recorded with others here. Some of you may have seen the games, some not. I plan to update this thread should I decide to post more games. I would love to post some more multiplayer games, but it is hard to get a decent game off, there is lack of players and the few that are available to play most likely won't make it a good game. And this is a challenge for you guys, those who think that can compete with me, come on Hamachi and kick my ass I wished to play through every mission under 15 minutes, as I originally had 15 minutes limit on Youtube videos, however after uploading 10 videos I got notification that I had no limit anymore, but I still pushed myself to do all missions under 15 mins. At first the 9th missions seemed impossible, but after a few attempts I managed to do it Pretty tough sometimes, especially last mission for Harkonnen, it is the only mission I had to use turrets in. Also if there are 2 maps to choose from, I choose the one I did not play in easy campaign for some variety. Some of good games are here: Youtube Channel If you want to be notified about my new posted games, feel free to subscribe. UPDATE 03-09-2011: As requested, posted Missions 1-6 all separated: 1 mission - 1 video. UPDATE 12-09-2011: Added hard missions video links. UPDATE 22-09-2011: Added 4 more multiplayer games UPDATE 24-10-2011: Learned to use videolists on Youtube, so deleted links here and made groups of videos, added some more multiplayer videos UPDATE 31-03-2012: Added some multiplayer lists to make them more organized and easier to search in.
  14. That's cool, more than enough for now, but how do I enable this? I could try that on hard and see if it is manageable.
  15. Good, I will share my input here. I think that it can possibly have something to do with the handicap settings in multiplayer games. When we play on easy in practice, the cost of units/buildings is reduced, build speed also reduced. The AI sends very little amount of units. When we play hard practice, units/buildings cost more and take longer to produce, but the AI also sends much more units. Now how does that apply to LAN/Internet? There we set handicap for players, and what it does is one star gives the reduced build cost/speed, 3 stars do the opposite. But there is no such setting for AI, so maybe the AI gets automatically 1 star and that would explain the excessive amount of units compared to easy practice. BTW, Gruntlord could you possibly make practice so AI is allied and only attack the player and make them build more harvesters and 3 factories of each? As for Fedaykin's post this is interesting, I can tell that some AI's are easier to kill, some are harder. I would notice that when I rush them quickly, one of them I have to kill very long, and then the next one is very easy, less units and buildings.... was wondering why, now this explains it a bit. There is one more thing to add here. As Rotorz told me long time ago - you can determine where the opponent is on the map if you are host (in practice always) - should apply to practice, LAN and Internet. Host gets a random spot on the map I suppose. The second player (in this case second AI) gets a spot furthest from the host's spot, then it goes down the player list and picks a spot that is always further from the others, so if you play 3 players - it makes a triangle. That would mean the hardest AI's would be in this triangle and never the closest ones. Maybe that's why they made them hardest in the first place, would make sense.
  16. People won't massively play this because of one thing - there is no tournament going on, no ladders, nothing to compete for, nothing to get motivated for. Some other reasons include bad graphics, no house differences and overall poorly made game with lag in multiplayer and for old players its long boring sonic games and unfixed bugs. Westwood didn't put much effort in this game and many people complain about it in their reviews. The gameplay is the only thing left that is good.
  17. He talks about LAN, you don't need westwood components for LAN play. Well I didn't think anyone would be playing on it, so I shut it down as it eats 50% of my CPU and have to disconnect my second PC off internet. If you want I can turn it on when you ask me.
  18. As far as I know, chat to all is F6. Not sure how to message the 6th player though.
  19. This is interesting, I noticed that AI builds much more units when playing over LAN than in Practice. Can you tell us what exactly is set up differently for LAN AI?
  20. I made a new network on Hamachi for old top players who would like to play dune again, the network is "Dune2000 1.06" with no pass Anyone can join, but beware the channel is limited to 15 people, so I delete any inactive nicknames. Should you decide to be more active, feel free to join again.
  21. Hi Lukan 1. This one should be simple. The game should run at just the right speed when your speed bar is set to FULL. Firstly the speed is determined by how fast your computer is. When I had Celeron 500Mhz it was playable, even on Athlon XP 1800+ that I had it was hard, but still doable. Now the CPU speeds are way above playable. From what I remember when I messed with this back in the day, there are 2 things that enable this. Disabling one of them or even both should fix this problem. First thing is you are probably running the game with the "-f" parameter which can be set up at the shortcut. Default: "C:\Westwood\Dune2000\DUNE2000.EXE -f". Second thing is you probably have V-sync on(for OpenGL), turning it off should fix that too. So Delete the "-f" parametr and/or turn V-sync on. 2. Why would you want to play in windowed mode? Must be really hard to scroll the screen then, maybe that's why the option is not included
  22. Jerski, Tanktrix got much better since your times To me it seems no one really bothered to learn other houses than Atreides. I experimented with them a little and in 1v1 on XL map it just comes down to the player I guess. There is a lot of space, so you can use a lot of strategies by any houses. Haven't experienced many 2v2's lately, but Atreides is doing a bit better there due to lack of space, no brain play like putting sonics on focus fire and jamming the canyons is a way to defend against hark and ordos, but is not a winning move either.
  23. You wont eng even 1 building with unit count of 10
  24. ok... how fast can u do it without engineers?
