Taqwa11 Posted June 28, 2003 Posted June 28, 2003 I don't want to search this forum for answers. I just want someone in the know to tell me what's going on with Emperor online and, dare I say it?--ladders? Just a simple, one paragraph summary would be most welcome.
Harkdawg Posted June 28, 2003 Posted June 28, 2003 Online is usual, chat is disabled in channles, like anyone acctually was there anymore.Ladder is being hosted now by fed2k http://dune2k.com/ladder/
Taqwa11 Posted June 28, 2003 Author Posted June 28, 2003 Ladders hosted by Fed2K? Please give me a link to info on that. How does that work?
Timenn Posted June 28, 2003 Posted June 28, 2003 It's a fan made ladder. So if you don't want to participate, be my quest. But don't put unnecassary posts in a thread. We all know your opinion
Taqwa11 Posted June 28, 2003 Author Posted June 28, 2003 Thanks, guys. Actually, I saw that large topic, but I was hoping someone would tell me how the ladder actually works, what with all the different colors and stuff. I don't want to take the time to read through all that stuff. Oh, and how do the rules differ from the original ones? Does the loser have to go somewhere and report the loss? That never works. I may start playing Emperor again if there is a decent community and ladders again. I'm waiting for EA to do something about Generals' bugs, and thus far they have done pretty much zilch.
DjCiD Posted June 28, 2003 Posted June 28, 2003 There is a Rules thread where you can suggest and then I think they will get voted on sometime soon. The ladder is realitvly new, I believe it's still in the trial phase. Seems to be working fine ;)Only wish clan manager was still working so we could have QM and BC back again.
Taqwa11 Posted June 28, 2003 Author Posted June 28, 2003 Thanks, Djcid. Looks to me like the only difference in rules is 30 seconds rather than two minutes to safely disconnect. I can see why Nav is complaining, since he is notorious for quitting when things don't go exactly right for him within the first three minutes. Wasn't the disconnect rule put in place simply to get out of a laggy game? Some people have interpreted the three-minute rule Nav's way. I believe that the only people who will be adversely affected by the 30-second rule are Atreides noobies. I suppose all the standard QM settings are still in effect? I always preferred clan games or custom games where players could decide on the options selected. Anyhow, thanks again.
SurlyPIG Posted June 29, 2003 Posted June 29, 2003 You run this program while you are playing emp. Basically, it takes the game reports of emperor and sends them to Fed2K instead of the dead Westwood ladders. We monitor for suspicious (since only one report is required, not from both players) or conflicting (someone disconnected, other didn't) reports to see if someone is abusing the system. As for the rules, there are two essential differences. Quit window is one minute (we voted) instead of three. Also, the games do not have to be quick match games, they can be custom games too (kill the wait times), but they still have to be played on quick match settings. As of now, the only requirements for a ladder game is that it be with 6k, pre-built base, 5 units. So far, everything else is optional, but it isn't written in stone.I think it's going to be great. Since Gob has the power to choose game results or discard one set of conflicting reports, we can not only catch cheaters but repair the damage done to their victims.
Taqwa11 Posted June 29, 2003 Author Posted June 29, 2003 Thanks, Ace. :) Nice to hear from you--been awhile. As I said, I've been playing Generals a lot. Since EA took over Westwood, the problems we used to associate with Westwood have been magnified. Plus, Generals is played on Gamespy, which I hate. If EA's promised patch doesn't fix what it's supposed to, though, I will return to Emperor, at least until Empires: Dawn of the Modern World comes out around November. I know I'd really suck at Emp right now, but I still love the game.By the way, where's the destination when you unzip that file?
Razorox Posted June 29, 2003 Posted June 29, 2003 Yo sup taqwa! What's your nick on generals? I play it often too! Maybe we can play together sometime :)
Taqwa11 Posted June 29, 2003 Author Posted June 29, 2003 My nick is H4CKS4W, Razor. Nice to hear from you, bud. Long time. Are you Razorox on Generals? If so, I'll look for you. The problem with Generals, as you know, is you can't add a buddy unless BOTH people are online at the same time and add and accept each other. It's a real pain in the ass. I could use some more buddies on Generals, especially anyone who also played or plays Emperor.
IxianMace Posted June 30, 2003 Posted June 30, 2003 Well I've played Emperor online, and I play Generals online from time to time as well. The only problem is that Generals is quite brutal on my GeForce II, and my 56k modem results on yellow pings most of the time.I play for fun, and it would be nice if I had a game or two with you (even if it was just a online comp stomp ::)), since I have almost no skill when it comes to beating other players, and I've never had a game with you before.
rigel6669 Posted June 30, 2003 Posted June 30, 2003 Hey IxianMace, long time no see on generalsLet me know when you play again ;)

I wont be on until probably wednesday or thursday as my computer just botched out on me, and I've gotta wait for those techys to fix it... only problem is that they're on holidays for the Canada day weekend! :'( Ah well, I'll see you later on this week anyway!
Taqwa11 Posted July 1, 2003 Author Posted July 1, 2003 Hi, playerap. Yeah, I haven't been on this forum much since I've been on the Generals forum complaining about EA's lack of support. If EA actually comes through on its promised patches and fixes, I'll stick with Generals because it is an awesome game. But if EA doesn't do anything by the end of July, I think I'll just go back to Emperor for at least a few months.
Razorox Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 hey taq, do u have a link for all the changes that are supposed to be in 1.06 for generals?
Taqwa11 Posted July 1, 2003 Author Posted July 1, 2003 Not a recent one. Supposedly it's mostly just a balance tweak, but EA has taken almost three months to make the patch, so I hope it'll contain some other fixes.
Taqwa11 Posted July 3, 2003 Author Posted July 3, 2003 Well, I played a game last night--a two vs. two--that actually went to completion with no one quitting. We won mightily and proved ourselves valient beyond measure. :) All I need to do is find you on, Razor. In Generals, that is easier said than done.
Razorox Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 yup, the generals buddy system is totally lame1.) If your friend is not on you cannot add him to buddies2.) If your friend is doing a quickmatch (which i often do) you cannot add him to buddies3.) If your friend is in-game you cannot add him to buddies4.) If your friend is in a different chat room/server you cannot add him to buddiesThe only way you can add him to buddies is if he's on the same server/chat room at the same time and he's not in a game... even so you have to scroll through a list of people and look for him.LAME! [/rant]Anyway, try to idle in USA 1 lobby taq just to make it a bit easier :)
Razorox Posted July 8, 2003 Posted July 8, 2003 hey taq, what time can you be online so we can play a few generals matches?
