EdricO, being proud of state, at least its shining points, doesn't mean same to adore nation and damn everything else. Slovakia is a nice state, I am proud of its pluses and I want to improve its worse parts.

altough our anthem is still more nationalistic, with spirit of 19th century:

The Danish flag, called Dannebrog (see attached) , is the oldest national flag in the world. It is said to have fallen from the sky during a battle in 1219 in the small Baltic country of Estonia. The flag is often mistaken for the similar Swiss flag. Description: red with a white cross that extends to the edges of the flag; the vertical part of the cross is shifted to the hoist side, and that design element of the Dannebrog (Danish flag) was subsequently adopted by the other Nordic countries of Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden

Our other national anthem is actually our "the Royal anthem" but is often mistaken as the national anthem. Last time was after we won against the USA in Ice hockey.

Well, I found this English translation of the Dutch anthem wich is fairly accurate I suppose (translating Dutch to English coherently is a pain), except that instead of "Dutch" in the first verse it should say "German".

Got it from here, wich contains some info about William of Nassau if you're interested.

Hey that's an unusual nice anthem...

I like it somehow.

The german national anthem is somewhat boring.

Unity and justice and freedom to the german fatherland...

In reply to the "Danish Flag": the colors of the Romanian flag seem to date as back as our Dacian acestors. In modern times it first apeared in 1848, during the revolution.

I was never taught the Scottish national anthem... Must be my crappy schooling. Even my knowledge of the British one is shaky...

Well, I have recently thought of drawing my own flag, to represent what I stand for. And this is the best topic to post it in:

- the red star with the hammer & sickle stands for communism (freedom, equality and justice)

- the blue cross stands for Christianity

- the white circle stands for universal peace on Earth

- and the green background stands for the Environment that we should respect and protect

I don't know any, I'm on the wrong side of the country.

And no. Scottish heraldry is very complicated. Each clan is decended from another clan which is decended from another one and related to a third closely but distantly to a fourth... Some of them have roots in the North, some in the South, and some in both places at once with different roots. It's very difficult to understand. I know four names that I am decended from, only two of which belonged to my parents. There are doubtless many others. None of them is Corbett. :D

Well, assuming a country was created that fitted my ideals perfectly, it still wouldn't be a communist theocracy, because theocracies are un-democratic.

And btw, the reason why the flag is simple is not because I wanted it that way, but because I suck at drawing. ;D
