I was wondering if the majority of the people at this forum actually play the Emperor Game or if they are just emp fans that only like to chat about it.

Because i see alot of people logged in here at this forum but hardly anyone logged into the game servers.

most of the guys who post on these boards never played Emperor online very much.

some used to play online a lot but not any more since Emperor is a dead game.

A "Dead" game is a relative term.....

all it would take for it to be un-dead is for people to get up off their butts and start playing again.

Or an alternative for making it un-dead would be to wait for all the noobs who are buying the game for 10 bucks to play it and mature in their gameplay.

i've seen guys who've had this game for ages yet still play like utter n00bs. ie: sagedoc, rainer117, owlowl/owwl

i don't think you'll be seeing much maturing of the 10 dolla n00bs, unfortunately. it takes Tournaments to make people mature their playing style and EA axed all the Tournaments.

if EA started patching Emperor again and restoring the Tournaments, then Emperor might become alive again. unforunately that is never gonna happen without a miraculous Act of God.

when I say dead, i mean dead in terms of Emperor offers no real competition any more. unlike newer RTS games which have tons of players, many of which are highly-skilled - and you never have to wait to get a decent game going. in Emperor you have to wait ages, and even after waiting ages most likely it will be you + 3 n00bs in your game that ends in under 10 minutes anyways.

I have played with ahrok and he does not build poorly or have a problem with making units.

The main thing i noticed is that people just dont like his setts... i swear i waited in his room for like an hour while hundreds of players came into the room and left because they wanted different settings. He said i was the most patient person he has ever seen. Seeing as how there isnt a plethora of games awaiting you as you log on .. i cant possibly imagine why someone would sit in an empty lobby when they could be playing a game. even though they may not like the setts.

I'm still playing, under different names to hide my real nickname, i've recently played against navaros (arohk, cyrenius) under a different name and he's IMO not very good, not even at his own settings (qm settings) building minotaurs and perhaps fedaykins too.

hahah LOL i know you didn't Win that game now, did you Ken?

btw if you say I am not very good that is because you are rushing under 3 and think that if you pin me down under 3 that that somehow makes you good and me not good then i have news for you: my style has never been to be strong under 3 nor will it ever be. building a million bikes/light Inf does not make someone good, and the fact that i can't be bothered making so many weak units doesn't make me bad. LOL

Yep i did, in fact, i was on YOUR TEAM, and you did umm... NOTHING, i was the one who took all the punishments and i was also the one who rushed.

If you were rushing under 3 then I may very well have been doing nothing aside from defending my base against a rush or making an army. What, you expect me to build millions of bikes/light Inf to support your rush? I know that's what 99% of n00b ATR do in every single game they ever play. Sorry for not playing like a n00b ATR ken. the point is, we weren't gonna lose that game. besides i'm sure i contributed to your attack in one way or another once i realize they weren't attacking me so i think you're exaggerating by saying i did nothing. other than that, if it was a big map like Fishers and you are mad at me for not marching my Minos all the way across the map: that also doesn't make me bad.

The under 3 rule was an old QM rule, its original purpose was to quit under 3 minutes if the connection between eachother sucked or if the other player cheated and then the game isn't recorded, but it was not for something like quitting under 3 MINUTES just because you don't like the map.

ken is actually giving a wrong answer:

the under 3 Rule was made so you could quit at any point under 3 minutes and the game does not count if you do. this brings a great deal of depth and strategy to Emperor gameplay that would not otherwise be in Emperor.

nowadays, most n00bs who think if they press the Buzzsaw button 40 times and click them across the enemy's base consider that to make them "good" and think they've "won" that game. LOL

in reality, the under 3 Rule states that abusing the early game imbalances in Emperor do not have to be accepted. the other guy could Quit the game on mr. elite-wannabe-buzzsaw-maker (or whatever the rush happens to consist of)and that game would not count at all.

the balance in Emperor is designed with the under 3 Rule in mind. it fundamentally changes the way the game can be played (for the better) and allows for flexibility and creativity in BO's. the under 3 Rule is one of the best things that ever happened to RTS gaming

many people think the under-3-minute rule is a "game-void" technique used for thwarting rushers and exploiters.

However the true functionality for the under-3-minute "game voiding" is to thwart "trainers or cheat programs" It usually takes the game servers about 3-5 minutes to detect if a cheat trainer is being used and then you will receive an "out of sync" message. Now i know that "out of sync" can occur for other reasons besides cheating... but i am just saying that if your game goes "out of sync" in the first 3-5 minutes it could be due to a cheat trainer.

But back to the 3-minute rule "game voider". This lets you quit the game without taking a loss on your record in a tournament. You see someone could activate a money cheat and then in 3 minutes have enuf stuff to kill you and could possibly kill you in under 3-5 minutes before the server had time to detect the cheat and declare an "out of sync". So people who are suspicious of an enemy rushing with too many units can quit the game and not take a loss (if done in under 3 minutes)

HOWEVER seeing as how there is no more tournaments... nobody really cares about the 3-minute rule anymore... and most games go over 5 minutes which is long enuf to detect a cheat.

I think the name would rather be "Dune fans or JUST Players?" ;)

Navaros, making some publicity for your own thread? :P

I still login regulary to play EBFD, but nearly no games are running. I wait for awhile, but when there is no game after 10 min ...

a great thread about why the Under 3 Rule is the best thing since Sliced Bread

Too bad you're explotiting it, i've got my information directly from devenouch or chris rubyor or chris longpre, don't know, one of those 3.

The information has long gone, i'll try to look if it's on this board or on the old ww board.

EDIT: nope, it was on the old ww boards.

btw. wasn't gunwounds supposed to be banned forever? ah well, welcome back gun ;)

I like to play the game, and I chat about it. However there aren't many people online nowadays, so I hardly play it online, unless I can get a scheduled game in with some friends or something. :P
