Nyar, that may be possible where you live, but in the crowded cities of Orlando, New York City, Miami, etc, there are no open spaces. Outside is with lots of people around you - these areas should be banned from smoking.

This is basicly what I stated, although not banning. People should be more considerate when it comes to smoking. In crowded areas, smokers should realize themselfs that they are bothering others and therefore not smoke there. It all comes down to lack of respect for one and another IMO.

pull up my goves and stand outside in -35 degree weather for like 20 minutes for a bus that's late because of the snow. Now that's not healthy, but I much prefer it to the smoke. At least the cold won't kill me.

You're not the only one that's been in a situation like that. I've stood in the rain several times because the bus shelter I was waiting at was full of smokers.

Heck, I was standing against a wall once waiting to take a bus to go home, and a smoker came and started smoking further up the wall, upwind of where I was standing, so the smoke would waft directly into my face. I moved upwind of him. Guess what happened? Another smoker came and started smoking upwind of me... >:(

Sometimes, I just with I could throttle the smokers. ::) :P

If smoking could not be completely banned, I would like to see created facilites for smoking such that:

There would exist and be maintained by the state small and confined rooms for smoking, painted in a vile, nicotine-yellow colour. There would be no ventilation. The rooms would be placed with the only doors being to the outside world.

Smoking elsewhere would be illegal.

The only nation that would do that is a facist nation...

I am totally for banning smoking. My mom smokes and all its doing for her is killing her. I dont want to lose my mom to a fucking cigarette! Tobacco does no good for you at all. All it does is get you addicted and kill you, all so the manufactures can get rich. All there doing is taking advantage of you. I know other people that smoke and it changes my view on them alot, i am still there friend but it shows that they have poor judgement. Its a terriable habbit and I truly think it should be put to a stop. Millions of people die each year. Its really sad and I dont think it does anything but bad.

well said! My moms father, my grandfather, died before I was ever able to meet him because of those damn cigarretes... they do kill way too many people every year, they do need to be stopped, perhaps if we could stop selling them, all the morons that currently smoke will all be basically sifted out of the gene pool (sorry nyar, my dad used to smoke as well so don't feel picked on :- , I tried not to sound too harsh) and the next generation will become better, smarter, stronger ( ;) )

It seems the laws grows hard on tobacco these days. Now, you can't smoke in a New York bar anymore. Will the future forbit smoking at all? Even in your home? Wouldn't that take away our freedom?

What do you think?

well, to be honest... i'd be glad if no one smoked in the world anymore. Ofcourse i can't force anyone into this. But hey, that just my hope. It's not that i want everyone to stop because I say so... Perhaps other people want to ban computers, which in that case i would not like... well unless i also forgot that they ever existed.. or that realy no one has a computer any more... in that case i wouldn't realy bother

Keep in mind that you have to be respectful of the smokers too, and your idea doesn't really do that Nema. Being a smoker doesn't make you a bad person, many want to quit. And even if you don't it doesn't make you rotten. I would just prefer that it was banned entirely. I think the reason it hasn't been is because of the extreme corruption of politicians. They get big bucks from taxing tobacco products. If there were some sort of other product put onto the market that was chemically addictive as nicotine is, it would be pulled off immediately. You'll never see nicotine crackers or nicotine candy. You can put a positive dollar price on the tax taken from tobacco prodcuts but no amount of money can compare to the people killed each year. And it probably can't even compare to what tobacco costs health care.

It's hard to be respectful of the part of them that allows self-destruction and slow suicide - and slow murder of others. But hey, to each his own.

That would also make less people want to start and more want to quit.

I realise that. But that part is not representative of the whole person. Smokers don't WANT to die or kill others, mind you.

if you ban smoking. I wont give a damn, I'll keep smoking. If you dont like me smoking in the open then take a few steps away from me you health freaks, its not like 5 minutes of second hand smoke is going to do you any damage.

Indeed, but I hope they try to quit - those who do not think they have a problem (addiction) with cigarettes need to come to senses, though.

Ex, tell that to the 50,000 in the U.S. that died from second-handed smoke. Health freaks, or health smart?

Yea they are adicting, but used in moderation they are not. You might get home after a tough day at school and think, gosh i need a smoke, but insted you sit down and kill ordos 45 over and over and over and over again in starcraft.

All things in Moderation man :)

This isn't a mind-over-matter deal, nicotine affects your brain, you cannot just say to yourself over and over "I am not addicted. I am not addicted. I am not addicted."

Thats what I did, Use to be 3 or 4 cigs a day, but now i am down to one every few weeks. and i didnt use a patch, or a gum or a shot gun shell that would fill your body with nicotine as it impacted. I just thought.

Its the nicotine talking. Ignor it, or simply face it and tell yourself you wont smoke. And You will cut down.

Adictions are only for the weak minded....

And shut up about second hand smoke, i get first hand smoke, second hand smoke, third hand smoke, fourth hand smoke and you dont see me bitching going.

weee wee go in a room. its not like a few minutes of second hand smoke will kill you. Why should i have to suffer?
