Sorry ken124578, I'm usually not much online vrijday's .. so hense my late reply. To answer your question.

"How much space do I get?

Users are given an initial 40Mb of space and can request up to 100mb of space, at any time by emailing us at: morespace@FreeWebs.com with your username and the reason you would like more space. Plus, users can purchase an unlimited amount of additional space at the cost of $10 per additional 100Mb per year."

That was taken from the FAQ list on their page.

The above link is the FAQ page itself. But if you should have any more questions, feel free to ask them. :)

What is bandwidth? ??? (yes i just recently started trying to build sites)

Bandwidth is the internet transfer speed a computer has.

(Like your internet connection at home. If you have got 56k modem, your bandwidth is 56kilobit per second)

Related to website hosting bandwidth is the amount of data you are allowed to shift per given time. So 100MB per month would mean you can shift 100 MB of data a months from your site [ or from there server ]. For example, if your site should only have 1MB files on it. [ every file, picture of HTML file being 1MB ] you can have 100 requests for a certain file from your site a month. If you get more they would get an "this user has exeeded his monthly data transfer amount and the site is unavailable" error, or you could be charged for extra money that month. Depending on your users policy. A small site with just a few files, being just a few kb per file doesn't shift that much data a month. Bigger sites [ including the corresponding download sections ] could shift a couple of gig a month. Fed2K for example is on 30+ a month. Most Yahoo sites don't even make it to close 1 gig.

If you host yourself, you'll get unlimited file transfer :).

(though traffic would be slower than on a hosting service's server)

I know, ain't it great. :D

Allthought slower ... .just give your hosted customers a lower priorety on the line and restrict them to an amount of the totall bandwith you get. I know, it's something that lookes a lot like the BOFH, but it works ;)

So if i have no downloads on my site i will not run out of website bandwidth?

btw. does uploading files do something with my website-bandwidth usage?

If you upload them yourself they usually aren't in the amount you are allowed to shift per month. If visitors on your site are uploading files, like the "attatch file" option at Fed2K, it is counted in your bandwidth use.

Without downloadable files it's just the HTML files that take up bandwith. You just need a lot of visitors when you want to run out of your monthly bandwidth that way. . .
